Perth Glory will officially launch their 2012/13 A-League Season with a formal breakfast in the stunning surrounds of the State Reception Centre, at Frasers, Kings Park.

Hosted by international star, best-selling author and world renowned comedian Ben Elton, the Perth Glory Season Launch will be a morning to remember as the 2012-13 squad will be introduced for the first time.

With a beautiful assortment of breakfast options, teas, coffees and fruit, the launch will include exclusive player and coach Q&A's, big screen presentations, sponsor presentations and a special Perth Glory announcement.

Perth Glory coach Ian Ferguson says he’s very pleased with today’s 2-1 win over Melbourne Victory at AMMI Park in Melbourne.

Despite missing Shane Smeltz, Liam Miller, Dean Heffernan, Steven McGarry and Bas van den Brink, Perth Glory maintained their positive pre-season form.

“Today was a good test of our depth and the young players did well,” Ferguson said.

“Adrian Zahra, Scott Jamieson, Josh Risdon and Ryo Nagai were all very good.

“I also thought Nick Ward was outstanding. Today he reminded me of the player he was when he was playing in the A-League every week.

“He was everywhere, winning tackles, screening and also complemented Jacob Burns.”

And it was Ward who gave Perth Glory the lead on 10 minutes when the former Victory midfielder fired home from 25m.

The Glory then doubled their advantage on 37 minutes when Nagai was fouled by the Victory’s Brazilian midfielder Guilherme Finkler inside the penalty box. With Smeltz sitting out the game, Billy Mehmet converted the spot kick, sending Lawerence Thomas the wrong way.

But the Victory pulled a goal back within three minutes when Marcos Flores also scored from the penalty spot.

Ferguson praised the efforts of Japanese traillist Nagai who played the role just behind the striker.

“Ryo had good movement, nice touches and also linked well with Billy Mehmet.

“He was a bit short on game time so I took him off but he’ll play again on Saturday against the Heart.”

MELBOURNE Victory succumbed 2-1 to Perth Glory in its final serious pre-season hit-out at AAMI Park today.

Glory raced to a two-goal lead before Marcos Flores converted a penalty before half-time, and that’s how it remained.

Victory’s only remaining pre-season hit-out is an intraclub scheduled for Sunday at AAMI Park, meaning coach Ange Postecoglou would have a fair idea of how his team will line up for the opening round derby at Etihad Stadium.

While Victory was patchy there were plenty of encouraging signs ahead of the 2012-13 season, with the team clearly stating its intent to play a possession-based game.

Defensively the side still needs work but going forward new signings Guilherme Finkler and Marcos Flores combined well with Archie Thompson and Marco Rojas in the attacking third during the high intensity match.

While only Billy Celeski was sidelined for Victory, the grand finalists were missing Shane Smeltz, Liam Miller, Steve McGarry, Bas Van den Brink and Dean Heffernan.

Victory had two gilt-edged chances within 10 minutes.

Finkler unsuccessfully tried to round the keeper after an underhit Steve Pantelidis backpass before Rojas had a shot saved by Danny Vukovic.

Former Victory midfielder _ who just re-joined his original club after a stint with Wellington Pheonix _ Nick Ward opened the scoring, beating Lawrence Thomas with a long-range strike.

Victory persisted playing out from the back but Glory’s press paid off as Japanese triallist Ryo Nagai _ who was outstanding _ was brought down by Finkler.

Billy Mehmet converted the 34th minute penalty to put Glory ahead 2-0.

Victory scored four minutes later, also from the spot.

Flores converted after he was denied a clear scoring chance, when Finkler brilliantly released Thompson down the left.

The intensity dropped off in the second half as both sides rung the changes.

Tando Velaphi, Spase Dilevski, Digo Ferreira, Jimmy Jeggo, Theo Markelis and Danny Allsopp all came off the bench.

Thompson had a great chance in the dying stages but in the end Glory held on.

Glory will remain in Melbourne ahead of the clash with Heart on Saturday at Epping Stadium.

It was a Victory write-up. It was their last pre-season friendly, they only have an intra-club left.

Also at today’s season launch, Glory confirmed former Japan U19 captain Ryo Nagai had signed with the club for the season ahead while inaugural sponsor QBE extended its 16-year association by another three years.

No complaint about Perth Glory being a night team, because Perth is uninhabitable in summer, let alone play football there , but there is ONE game on the fixture schedule that needs to be looked at:

Round 25 vs Wellington Phoenix on March 17, that match is scheduled to start at 4pm in the afternoon

Granted Wellington Phoenix fans will be able to see that game at a reasonable time on tv, but to bet against the weather in Perth to believe it will be 22 degrees at that time of the year, is the same as betting on "whether or not butter will melt in a frying pan"

It will be 45 degrees that day
