Geeze, hate to think it's too much to ask that a player who you've payed some 20m in wages BEFORE BONUSES AND APPEARANCE FEES would be enough to get some kind of loyalty from while he lays about on your injury table. But, then you're discussing the absurdity of professional sportspeoples' wages. I'll admit, I was bitter when Rooney left us for United, but deep down, I knew it was for the best - the club was struggling financially and we got a great deal.

Deep down that is, but on the surface, as you say, you were bitter. I think when communicating to others, what you feel on the surface comes through a little more, IMO.

The difference is, Liverpool aren't struggling financially anymore. If the abusrd wages doesn't buy you any kind of loyalty, what are we paying them for?

afromanGT wrote:If the absurd wages doesn't buy you any kind of loyalty, what are we paying them for? You're paying them because of two things: the best players in the world can demand whatever money and fees they want, and at this point in time, clubs can pay them; and because clubs panicking about their squads at the end of January pay hyperinflated transfer fees as the deadline closes, pushing the market higher. If Carroll is worth 35m, then how much is Berbatov worth? Drogba? Even Cahill, who's supposedly only valued at 10m.

WGMG: So much time devoted on the sCCuM. FFS they're all shit

WGMG: Liverpool fans on facebook. 'I hate Torres' 'Torres is a traitor' 'He was useless anyway'. Fuck I hope he scores a hat-trick against them. Show all the pricks who went from loving him to hating him in a day that he's one of the world's greatest strikers.

This is the club I love, the greatest club on earth. YNWA" to "I want a transfer" in the space of a month. How did you expect people to react?

So he decided he wanted to go to a club that has the chance to win some major trophies over the next few seasons, its what any football that wants to play at the highest possible level of football should do.
It's just annoying that he was a key player for LFC before he left, their top scorer for a couple of seasons and suddenly he's the most hated man in England.
I don't hate LFC fans, it's just that most (not all) seem to have a sense that Liverpool have some sort of 'divine right' to be in the EPL or be in the Champions League, just because they have been a really successful team in the past.
Don't get me wrong, I like Liverpool, always had a soft spot for them because of some of the players they've had/still have, I just hate seeing fans turn on players that did so much for a club. It's the same as when I hear Spurs fans booing Stephen Carr when he plays against us, he was a brilliant player for us and did so much for the club, but they just forget that.

For the 400,000th time. If he'd requested to leave in July, everybody would have accepted it. But when you request a transfer with three days to go in the window, a month after telling the club's official website that you awnted to stay at the club and it was the best club in the world...well...I can't understand why people are upset by that. It's not like he's been lying to Liverpool fans for the last month and left the club in the lurch with three days left in the window as they hunt desperately for a replacement. Hell, even if he had asked to leave at the start of the window it wouldn't have been as bad.
It's tactless, respectless and classless. The club has defended you to the end of the earth, put up with your constant injuries and gone head-to-head with the spanish FA in your defence, and THIS is how you treat the club?

In all fairness Maxi, how would you feel if Gareth Bale said he wanted to remain a Spur for life, and then left for Arsenal a couple of weeks later?
