I guess because I see it all the time I really hate it when people get smashed off their guts and become a burden on the people they're with.

Tbf he didn't actually want me to "save" him. Trying to reason with suicidal people is hard enough, makes it worse when they're drunk. Who knew I would be getting so much experience with this.

1) It's a pretty ineffective and unguaranteed way of killing yourself.
2) It's a seriously douchebag move to do it in front of your friends to try and emotionally blackmail them into 'saving' you.

can't say I have much experience in the matter, but the only guy I know who did say "I am going to commit suicide" was emotionally blackmailing his ex girlfriend. Fucking sociopath.
In this case the being drunk probably didn't help though, so maybe give him the benefit of the doubt.

We had a function tonight, it was one of our regulars' birthday parties. She's an amazing girl, cute as all hell and a massive sweetheart but her boyfriend is a massive douche (cliche much?). It's her birthday and she's drinking with friends when her drunk ass boyfriend goes up to her, tells her he's tired and leaving and then abuses her when she won't leave with him and makes her feel guilty. He treats her like shit EVERY time I see him and we all think he's a massive douche but for some reason she's coming up to us and repeatedly asking what she did wrong and no matter how many times we tell her nothing she still feels bad.

So yeah, what I'm getting at here is that people who are arseholes when they're drunk are arseholes in general and just know that if they act like that in general society they'd be social lepers.

No it's not. He's pretty spot on, and so was Afro. I've dealt with this way more times than I'd like to think about, and in the end it was bullshit from all of them.

I'm not saying ignore them, but you don't have to bend over backwards to convince them to live. When my best mate tried it a few months ago, I straight up told him to stop being a dumb fuck, come have a beer and talk it over. Obviously that's not always going to work, but people who are serious about it don't go telling other people about it. That's high school bullshit.

This. While hearing anyone threaten to take their own life is confronting, don't think the worst will happen; most of the time it's not a serious threat, just attention seeking. Those who actually want to kill themselves tend to try and hide their pain and do it while no one is looking. Walking in on your passed out mother after deliberately overdosing on meds, not realising there was an issue in the first place, that's terrifying.

I was more talking about the second half of the quote, that if someone wanted to be dead, they'd be dead. i do agree though that the one's that should be worried about are the quiet ones who don't tell anyone.

I was talking to a couple of mates who study psych and they said that often say when they're counselling a suicidal person their thought process will continue to be frantic and disjointed, when it goes calm they've often made a decision to end their life.

The loud, boisterous suicides are cries for attention. People who are genuinely suicidal go out quietly.
