Like yeh it needs to stop, yeh? They do, but to single out international students as a group of people disproportionately attacked is a furphy.

WGMG: Not sure if its a WGMG or WFMB, but tomorrow marks the 6th month anniversary of my surgery. I wake up a lot thinking I'm still at hospital. Luckily I'm feeling better-ish.

If they haven't ordered just go about your business then when you serve them go "Sorry sir/mam, I didn't want to interrupt what was clearly an important phone call." It shits me to bits when you tell people the price and they start fumbling around for their wallet like they're surprised that there is money involved in this activity. It's almost like they're expecting you to go "oh, you don't have your wallet out? Well that's just too much work, have them for free buddy." But the one I've been getting a lot lately is the group of women who come up, order a round of drinks and then all go to pay individually, almost always with card. Groups of guys almost always drink in rounds, groups of chicks almost never do.

brendo wrote:wow bartenders sound like twats, i suppose not many people work to the idea of serving your customers I suppose in doing your job, when someone makes your job difficult you don't express any frustration or exasperation ever. You've never had a bad day at the office (or whatever) and every person you deal with is of clear and coherent mind. Someone pisses you off, you try the "kill them with kindness" approach. But hospitality is one of the few industries where people will be blatantly rude and insulting towards you and take the attitude of "You have to just cop it, it's your job", which is appalling. So you grit your teeth, force a smile and offer them a drink, bottling up your urge to rip off their arms and stuff them up their nose because despite the fact that you're three deep at the bar they've flagged you down because they 'want to be served' only to go "Can I geeeeeeetttttttttttttt....uuuuuuuuuuuuuuummmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm....." before turning to their mates and going "So what do you guys want?" A couple of weeks ago I cut a guy off, he was visibly intoxicated and his eyes were glazed. "I'm sorry sir, due to your being visibly intoxicated I can no longer serve you alcohol." At this point I'm just doing my job and adhering to the law. His response to this was well reasoned and completely rational - he picked up the tip jar and took a swing at me with it. As security tackled him and dragged him out his mate decides to shout at me "YOU'RE A FUCKING CUNT! IT'S CALLED 'HOSPITALITY YOU WANKER!" Observing a little social decorum and common sense shouldn't be too much to ask. But apparently it is.

The easiest way to lose all belief that decency is a trait held by the average human is to work in a field that requires interaction with people. People are, on average, selfish non-empathetic arrogant shitbags with an inflated sense of self entitlement. What's more, you quickly find yourself becoming one of them.

People who are career hospo are generally pretty good with not being a shit bag as a patron. Still a million times better than working in a call center  At least there are the nights with hot chicks and getting paid to party to balance out the dickheads.

brendo wrote:wow bartenders sound like twats, i suppose not many people work to the idea of serving your customers you ever worked in retail/hospitality one of the biggest lies ever told is "the customer is always right" like the bloke who berated me today about how i lied to him the cost of an IPAD which he found on the internet on our website... i then asked if out .au at the end of the web adress ... he then continued to berate me before calling me a fu**ing moron... he then realised that he was wrong after checking the AUSTRALIAN website... and told me people are only human they make mistakes... the fact that the people behind the bar/counter/desk deal with on a day to day basis and do not jump over the counter and throttle these people who are "always right" is unbelievable

WGMG: Having to drive through Sydney. No-ones' patient enough and tries to constantly change lanes to get that one spot ahead. Worst are the idiots who stay in the outside lane until the last second before cutting everyone off to swerve across the road into their turn-off. If they weren't so frantic, traffic would be so much smoother and faster.

Oh I agree. Trains that run frequently and on time, don't go to shit in the wet weather, etc. would be far more beneficial. That said, if your train is stuck between stations or delayed or whatever, you may as well have internet access to keep you entertained

Be careful in Brazil if you're coming over What's the reason you live there? -PB Long story, but my brother married a brazilian and moved over here and my mum decided to come over too. I came just to visit and they both decided theyd had enough after 5 years, so I stayed and now look after their business. Personally, I've never had any problems here crimewise, but you realise that this can happen to anyone, so far Ive been safe but I could be going for a short walk on a sunday morning and come home in a coffin. Worst thing that I heard about the case, is that they wanted his car and his money, so he gave it to them and didnt try to be a hero or anything, they simply killed him (they tried to decapitate him) for the fun of it. Looking at one of the killers FB page, he describes himself as 'a gentle soul who always tries to see the good in people and in life'....
