OK this is a few days late, but nonetheless... afromanGT wrote:Heineken wrote:He wasn't trying to 'steer his way out of that'. When you lose both your front wheels like that, you're fucked. He'd have still been going into that corner at nearly 150km/h, and he's trying to keep the car as straights as possible. He loses the back end naturally when he hits the corner of the apex. It's Sebastian Buemi driving for Red Bull's sister team Torro-Rosso. It's lucky the run off area is so large. I'm trying to remember what race that was. Shanghai '10? Or is that Nuremberg?
Either way, the mechanics back at the pits would have been in for a very big spray. To have both tires "explode: off the car like that, both front-wheel mechanics would have had to not put the wheel not on properly. You can see just before they fly off, that he hits a bump in the road. It's amazing that such a small bump could cause that.
Wrong and wrong. He attempted to channel the car into the parallel wall to slow the car down a little, so he's not hitting the end of the run-off at 150km/h. He was praised for his presence of mind to do that at the time. ](*,) Wrong and Wrong. Heiny, what notorganic meant was that he was turning the wheel to the right as if to steer the car away from the wall. Of course it had no effect but instinctive nonetheless. Afro, I don't see how turning the steering wheel to the right is an attempt to channel the car into the wall on the left. Approaching the turn his line was oblique to the track's edge. If you recall from high school physics, as you move from one medium to another your velocity, thus path, changes. Notice as he comes off the track the car immediately heads for the wall. The front left struts hit the grass first; as the left half of the car slows the right side accelerates sending the car to the left.** ** Actually the car maintains its path - it was always destined to hit the wall due to momentum and lack of traction. The car hitting the grass explains the sinistral rotation. Edited by martyB: 1/6/2012 01:03:02 PM

I see you have been using your time away from the forum wisely.;)

He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.
