Well far out that was an experience and a half.

Had the winning team captain tell me I was shit and the losing team players tell me I was the best ref they had in ages.  Usually it's the other way around.

Memorable moment.  Hearing a spectator yell at the top of his lungs 'YOU'RE A FUCKING JOKE REF'.

And they wonder why there's a shortage.

haha Muz, the perils being a Ref, can't please them all, main thing I'm sure your enjoying yourself.

WFMB, being injury free to date and enjoying the season so far in O45/2's for 61yrs.
4th on the ladder a game in hand 4points off top this week.
Long way to go But its great still out there playing mind you getting back to defend is getting harder and harder.
Re Refs, down here in my comp I'm noticing quite a few new Refs ( alot that have been in the centre last number of years have either been promoted or time to stop ? who knows) and encouraging to see young teens being linos.

Loads of refs here refuse to do over 35's because of the whinging and moaning of players who really should know better.

As for enjoying myself I'm not sure.  Felt like my nerves were shredded last night when I came home. Match finished at 8.30pm but I couldn't get to sleep until well after 1.30am.  Then I woke up at 4.45am and it took me an hour to get back to sleep.

Was probably because it was a significant step up in intensity.  The players are a level up with the complaining and the tackles are full on with seemingly no regard for possible injury.  Getting razzed by a couple of hundred spectators doesn't help either.  I'm assuming/hoping that things will get easier as I do more games at this level.

Glad you're enjoying playing football.  As for running back just play sweeper that way you can yell at everyone in front of you.  Hahaha.

Re O35's I tend to agree on the mouthing off/back chat/whinging but its a given.
I see it all levels anyway, I watch alot of PL1/2/3 - they call for a free kick every single moment there is the slightest touch, "HEY" is shouted by so many players towards the ref it piss's me off putting pressure on him, then the linos are turned on re offside or throw ins.
At Club level its just the dreamers thinking they are in PL1 or EPL lol......
I played long time in 35/1's - the tackling was a badge of honour at that level, championship ol school ways, like wtf, some blokes I'd say were all going to work Mondays and not playing for sheep stations but some are in their minds ! I get being competitive but damn, these mugs ruin a good game.
O45's I see a big decline with intensity since the intro of no slide tackle rule.
Yes your getting older is one thing but its cleaned the game up alot since, last years covid season was my comeback from ACL op, and this season I can't even recall taking a late tackle or aggressive hit its so different.

Yer funny you mention that re going to sweep or abouts, been a midfielder all my days, don't train as much as I used to, maybe the ACL op has slowed me up some mentally ???? I enjoyed a bit of re union with many fellow Prem players I played with, some forwards I knew have gone to sweeper, said its the best bludge ever lol.....
Might have to re invent myself ! :) good point.

Mate, keep at it, its stepping up the levels as I mentioned and yourself, just got to get used to it gain confidence and get better control and block out the sideline trolls.
Without you guys we got nothing, I make my way to Thank the ref after every game, more so the young linos to encourage them to carry on - grass roots needs you good guys/gals you should be Thanked always.

Cheers mate.  And LFC.  Appreciate the kind words.  The wife is asking me why I do it and it's hard to explain.  I think it's the adrenaline rush and knowing that things can go pear shaped at any minute.  Like white water rafting or mountain biking at full pelt or snowboarding some hectic terrain.

My equivalent is a room of German business people learning English from me but thinking they know everything. Can't deal or please with some people. I try the rugby ref approach and jut be graceful and take it easy. It works on a number of people. I'm referring to correcting their English errors whereas I guess a footballer is never guilty of a foul.

You should some of the tweets and Facebook comments from the die hard monarchists and those who just post gibberish.  One goes of course they became a Republic because they own the commonwealth billions of dollars.  And I go u do know majority of countries in the commonwealth are republics and are still in the commonwealth.

WFMB: Had the pleasure of reffing and Independent Schools carnival yesterday (primary school kids) with some other refs.

Some real talents and happy smiling faces. The girls in particular are a joy.

Pinged a girl for offside and she looked at me bewildered and I said 'you were offside' and she looked real sheepish and said to me 'I'm sorry'.

Hahaha. Such a change from whinging full grown men who should know better.

WFMB: The Fish Markets.

Have you guys been down to the Fish Markets lately?   You can pick one fish that may not look like another one in colour, texture and shape but by studying their physiology under the surface they actually swim exactly the same way.  If you use the right bait they both tend to approach it and nibble at it exactly the same way.    And they both taste the same as well,  now that's good eating.

Old man Muz winning a gold medal in the over 50s at the Pan Pacific Masters (adult schoolies) at the Goldy.

Played for the mighty Dunrooten United for the first time and got the job done.

Went in with plantar fasciitis in both feet but played all 5 matches. Hobbled every day before and after the matches but got through and did over the clowns in the final that beat us in the first match.

Winners are certainly grinners.
