We had a seige next door when I was 18. The old 65y.o Serbian drunk next door had got plastered and walked to the Bottle-O to get more grog. His son rang the Bottle-O and told them not to serve him. He got back and grabbed his gun, so his wife and son fled out the front door and he fired 2 shots at them while they were running.

I got home about 15 minutes after this happened, and my mum was freaking about hearing gunshots. I told her he was probably pissed trying to shoot the dog, so I went for a look. Was hanging over the fence when I hear someone yell out to me from down the backyard. Look down and there's a cop in a bulletproof vest. Ran down there and he told me to go inside, get my mum and there'll be an officer at the front door to evacuate us (stupid thing was to get back to the house I had to go on an open verandah that overlooked the neighbours house)

We got evacuated at 4pm, then had to meet with S.O.G and give them a plan of our yard, their house, etc. Eventually the seige ended when the negotiator made contact at 6am. The old prick had passed out drunk after he fired the shots and had no idea what was going on.

He did 6 months in a mental institution, but is still a piss-head. Once he got out he went back to the house and put it on the market while his family was on holiday in Serbia, they got back and took the house off the market and made like nothing had happened and still live happily ever after.

This. Had one crazy night a few years ago. Woke up in the middle of the night to someone screaming about a fire. Look outside my window and the house next door is on fire. Luckily everyone got out safely. Went back to bed and no more than 10 mins later the dentist surgery down the road blows up and shakes my whole house.

Is that the same Dentist who ripped out several teeth the other day .

The only real excitement I've had round my place was across the road a few years back the neighbors were having a really loud party - by 2am the Music was still pumping loud. Anyway, mum phoned the cops and they came to shut the party down, but whilst they were shutting the party down, they bumped into a drug dealer they had been trying to catch for yonks, anyway, they had him cornered, so the druggie pulled out a knife and went to stab a cop, whose partner pulled his gun out and shot the dealer in the leg..

Most exciting thing ever to happen in Balmain, except when the bus went to turn at Darling Street Wharf, and his brakes failed him and he ended up in the harbor

   Heineken. It is harbour by the way

Maybe not the most exciting thing to happen in my hometown, but one of the funniest. Saw on the front of the paper about 6-8 months ago that a cop was chasing a stolen car through Otangarei (the ghetto part) and found that the residents were throwing objects and rolling things on the road to impede the police efforts.

When he stopped the car and got out, a Maori woman from a nearby house walked out and proceeded to throw a tyre iron at him, before stating that "we used to eat fullaz like youse!".

I just about pissed myself laughing when i saw that on the front page, especially since the cop was part-Maori.

We had a pretty serious siege a few years back where two cops were shot and had another a couple of months ago where someone was stabbed to death, all in the same suburb too. For a regional city Bendigo actually has its fair share of events like that and we were pretty badly hit by Black Saturday too, they were only a few K's from my house and had the wind not changed it would have kept tearing through the bush towards my housing estate and eventually my house. That was the scariest day of my life because I was at work and had to evacuate but we lost power so I couldn't contact my family and they had been evacuated from our house. We were just waiting out the front of my work as people pulled in with stories of what was happening but mum managed to get through the blocade to get me from work and luckily the wind changed

The perfect time for a poll...

Mouth Hygiene Methods...

1. Brushing teeth - Up/down
2. Brushing teeth - Forward/back
3. Brushing teeth - Both
4. Electric toothbrush
5. Flossing
6. Mouthwash
7. I'm English

My entire life up until a month ago (I'm 25) I have been a forward/back brusher with no floss but with mouthwash also, twice a day. I have converted to the up/down brushing method, still don't floss and still use mouth wash. I have to say the up/down brush seems to bring me greater success with overall mouth happiness.

Informed by my dentist that flossing is a waste of time and to get onto dental sticks, they are like minty toothpicks but are skinny not rounded and have a flat length and a curved length. They do a sweet job of cleaning between your teeth and require no messing around like floss does.

Im indie when it comes to brushing my teeth. Pure laziness. I only brush my teeth if im going out and I havent gone out in a week...
When I brush my teeth 9 times out of 10 I just use water. I hate toothpaste. Sometimes I clean my teeth with a towel, to get food off them. Sometimes I towel and brush with water. Sometimes I just towel.
If it makes any difference I chew a whole lot of gum. For the record my teeth are pretty white, not perfect though, and ive only had 3 fillings in my whole life - they were about 10 years ago.

I remember being told in primary school to brush your teeth in a circular motion as that was the best way. This was back in the early 90's, but I've stuck with that technique and it seems to do the trick for me.

I just brush around the structure of my mouth. Pay special attention to the backw here the wisdom teeth are because they haven't come up fully and food gets stuck there. I use mouthwash. I've never flossed because I have slight overcrowding and there isn't enough space between my teeth for floss. I have absolutely no fillings.

My teeth are crooked as (thanks NZ Govt for not funding orthodontist trips) but I brush at least once a day.

The key for me is a firm toothbrush because the clean just feels so much more legit.
