Exams are the biggest bullshit ever. The real world is not like that, and you have time to reference things and research if you get stuck.

Assignments and projects on the other hand are more useful.

But just remembering shit and regurgitating it within 2 hours is bullshit.

i prefer studying and writing exams than doing assigments.

assignments take up so much time and effort and it often distracts from one subject or the other.

i rather learn throughout the semester properly then go and do the exam at the end of the semester/term.

But exams are not a true reflection of your knowledge.

FFS when I did the HSC we weren't given the formulas for my physics exam. I spent half my time memorising them. In real life I would have a reference of them right there with me (apparently they changed shit after us and a page of formulas was included - but not what they were for which is good)

Just because I can't remember the correct formula under exam conditions doesn't mean I don't know how to solve the problem.

In real life, you deal with projects. Thats why I liked 90% of Uni for me. It was all project based and creating works. From start to finish I created something and have something to show for it at the end. Only had a couple of exams in 3 years. Soooo much better.

Without wanting to repeat myself, +1

No being given formulas for an exam is possibly the stupidest thing I've ever heard. I've had it happen to me at Uni the past two years. It stops being a knowledge test, and just becomes a memory test.

i see your guys point. in zimbabwe we usually always had exams and ive grown up preferring them. i hate it when the exam has something we never learnt and were meant to have read somewhere without even being told or something, but i dunno. always preferred exams.

I think an interview process would be better for judging students capability. You'd go into the uni and tell them why you think you should take a place in the course. Basically a job interview. Work experience could count for something too. This way potential students would still have to demonstrate effort. There should be more emphasis throughout highschool on building the foundations of a career not just a ranking that really doesnt take into account everything.

I think exams are misunderstood though. Sure on the face of it theyre an outdated method for measuring students capability but the whole process of revision, retention, performance under pressure, understanding what a question is actually asking, etc. these are all useful skills.

who likes dark, rainy, stormy but warm days? i love storms, heaps of rain and dark clouds.

Who hates boring weather where it's completely overcast, but the clouds are white, and there no rain or anything.
If theres gonna be no rain or storms, it has to be at least bright blue and sunny!

Some courses do this already. I know stuff like Visual Communication and various Design and Art courses have an interview process where you show off your portfolio and convince them that this is what you want to do.

I went for one and did just that.

I got in, then deferred for a year

The creative courses call for an interview process because you need to demonstrate you have the ability with a ready made portfolio. The academic courses take you on your results/marks.

i dislike that weather. If its gonna rain, it has to be monsoonal, there has to be storms, not random spitting with white clouds

VCAA and the other equivalents should just monitor SAC's I reckon, that way your assessments come at the end of the topic as it is fresh in your mind and then you don't have to try and cram a year of work into one exam. Seriously though if they had independant exmainors just running the SAC's it would be so much better and dodgy school's that exaggerate marks would be caught out and this ranking system can just fuck off too.

You guys would have 50/50 with school and exam marks? That's what we have.

I'm in the middle of exams at the moment, two down, four two go! :d

I think it rewards people who work hard over the entire year to learn and keep relevant all the content of the course. Maybe that's just me though. We have a moderation process so everyone that bullsh*ts marks get scaled down.

I'd say there would be a fair few spammers then... World Football will probably get hammered

but in a other news, who remembers my drunken rampage several weeks ago in the lounge where i spilt my beer, broke some tables, rambled about scott pilgrim, and then spilt my guts over some chick that i had to get funky or imno (thanks for that btw) to blotch out her name to save me from embarrassment?
