@ Melb CityYou have to take the highs n lows as a supporter right. The W-Lesgue games are going well with 2-4,000 at Lions stadium and crowds approaching 1k for NYL games. HAL is a lemon this season but we’ll do it all again over the winter and see where we go. We opened up with two 15,000 crowds ... where might they have gone if JA and his team had delivered?

well brisbane is a bit different from melbourne city next season west melbourne join in and if melb city don't do something with our attendance we might even lose our derby against victory

@ melbcityguy

My only advice is to take control. You have an ownership model that has some of the same flaws Roars had (only you guys have money) which is lack of engagement and consideration towards fans. Get organised and kick some doors down, try and change things from the inside not outside shouting in.

You guys deserve better but I think you’ve got a bright future as a club. CFGs tactics are ugly but they’re laying good foundations.

After some back and forth it looks as though Jamie MacLaren is heading our way. Just posted a goodbye to Hibernian on his Instagram.

from the herald

Warren Joyce’s future to be decided in next few months as Melbourne City’s signings debut

Melbourne City coach Warren Joyce sweated during the January transfer window and he should be cut some slack after his two prized recruits were only signed in the dying hours of deadline day.

But any respite for Joyce, whose contract expires this May, will quickly evaporate if City loses Saturday’s crucial clash with Adelaide United.

There is a heavy burden on Socceroos striker Jamie Maclaren and Tottenham youth product Shayon Harrison to hit the ground running from their debuts.

Joyce’s future will be decided over the next three months and 10-13 games, depending on how far City go in the finals series.

It’s understood that Joyce’s targets are to finish inside the top three, in other words qualify for the Asian Champions League.

A win over Adelaide still leaves City with a mountain to climb to make the top three.

jmac already half way up the goals table!  how far do you think he'll get?

if we sack joyce soon enough i reckon top 5 is possible - ekspecially if we count finals goals.

So why did mcgree get dropped?

Showed he is capable of attacking, it's anathema, we only want players who can defend, none of this creativity business.

city linked, as usual, but more importantly the article states that brattan is likely to depart after this season.  that would be pretty disappointing.

Melbourne City marquee Jamie Maclaren says his teammates want to know who's coaching the A-League club next season but have to put aside uncertainty over Warren Joyce's future as they gear up for finals.

He's also appealed to the club's stay-away fans to jump on for the final month of the season to create something special.

Jamie Maclaren, who will be back in the team this weekend, has called on City fans to show up and show support.

City have three home fixtures in their last four regular-season rounds, beginning with the visit of Maclaren's former side Brisbane to AAMI Park on Friday night.

The talk around sixth-placed City isn't about how they might do in May but who might come in to replace Joyce at season's end.

A tale of two Melbournes: Joyce on edge as Muscat revs up for finals
The Englishman, who steered City to a semi-final exit last season, is out of contract at the end of the campaign.

Joyce is reportedly in the mix to coach Wellington next season if, as expected, Mark Rudan leaves the Phoenix to coach expansion club Western United.

Maclaren addressed the looming changes on Wednesday.

"Players want to know who's in charge," he said.

"But at the end of the day, the manager comes in with a smile on his face.

"For us, there are players off-contract as well; it's not just the manager.

"Some players don't even know where they are going to be.

"We all need to be on the same train ... to get to finals.

"When you get into finals whoever turns up on the night gets through.

"You need to focus. All the boys out there are giving their all and that's all I can say."

Maclaren's honesty extended to City's fans, who have protested Joyce's tenure in recent weeks.

While City are on a nine-match unbeaten home run, the past three matches at AAMI Park have yielded less than 20,000 fans in total.

Maclaren acknowledged unease in the stands but said it was time to come together.

"Right now we need the support," he said.

"As much as there's a bit of animosity at the moment, we need them. It's as simple as that."

The Socceroos striker missed City's last match, a 3-0 loss at Western Sydney, with concussion but is fit to resume on Friday night.

He revealed the cause was a stray shot from teammate Kearyn Baccus on the training ground.

"We were having a bit of a joke saying he should never shoot again," Maclaren said.

"It hit me clean in the temple and I was out for about three minutes.

"It was a freak accident.

"I've been hit harder in the head before and been fine ... I'm raring to go for Friday."

ughh.  i bet the only reason rudan hasnt been announced yet is because of a city offer.  they'll go for kurz as well.

i bang on about it, but i want an australian coach. i want all our enormous resources put into developing local talent.  i'd really like to see scott miller given a run. i think i read somewhere that city have a short list of 20-30 possible managers

is there some popular choice floating around with city fans?  i'd check the melbourne city forum but i cant afford the chemo i'd need to recover from that.

real shame about delianov.  we have bouzanis and birra in the squad still. imo either can do the job.  i'd be surprised to see birra stay if he isnt offered first choice. such a talent.  it's a shame about the lack of game time he's had over the last few years.

Why Kurz? I get he has a sense of 'Klopp' about him, but aren't you tired of half of AUFC coming to us? We're backed by the richest owners of any club in the land and the coach is exempt from the Salary Cap so we should be looking at a proven kick-ass coach who shares the same playing philosophy as Pep G.

the adelaide connection is why i feel it's coming... could be worse. but i'd rather a green aus coach than a seasoned foreign coach.

How many have the same philosophy as Guardiola? Not many at all. But either way the mandate really should be someone who gets the team playing good and high intensity football otherwise it is too restrictive. Kurz with a good squad would tear the league up tbh

there's plenty with the same philosophy as guardiola. he would be amongst the most imitated coaches on the planet right now.

how come adelaids sacked kurz?

also, he seems to have some anger issues

kurz

"Across his time in the Australia, Kurz is statistically the eighth best coach in the country, excluding Stajcic’s one game at the Mariners."

"In the Kurz era, only the lowly Mariners who have won just six games in that period, have scored fewer goals. The Reds come in equal ninth with the Roar on just 63 goals scored during the regular season"

"Kurz's non re-signing was linked to him chasing results and not promoting youth "

and then

"Kurz has promoted seven players who between them have played 57 matches and a total of 3364 minutes. The only side to even come close to that is Brisbane, who also have seven graduates, amassing 53 games and 3082 minutes."

The club want a coach who will play youth and players like Armiento, Brook and Niyongabire have hardly had any game time. I think the owners also want a coach who will play attacking football and Kurz plays dire football that is hard to watch at times. The club have seemingly identified the coach that will fulfil their vision and that coach is Gertjan Verbeek.

I love Kurz but he only played youth out of necessity, not by choice.
