Sometimes it pays to keep your mouth shut. Sadly Joel hasn't in this case. The national coach (along with his assistants) is given the mandate to choose players that he feels are the best for the game or tournament at hand. If there was a player worthy of this playing in the A-League, he would have been in the squad. I believe that Pim Verbeek chooses a team around the players mentality as much as anything. It's the classic case of there is no "I" in team. I imagine that Joel Griffiths would have been considered but for various reasons he was past over. One of these would be his attitude. This petulant outburst probably only re-enforces this. What is sadder is that it probably marginalises him even more for future squads and under future coaches. irrespective of his ability or where he is playing.

Guy is angry and impulsive, but nobody here is making any valid points as to why he wasn't selected for at least one Socceroos game.

We can do without a volatile bloke like him, he's an angry little man. Imagine if he punched another linesman in the balls at the world cup, would do wonders for our World Cup Bid (NOT).

I rate Joel. Would have liked to see him at least included in the 31 man squad.

No question he is a quality player, as far as Australian strikers go anyway, but I wouldn't want him at my club.

He has played well, but fuck, in China? Who gives a shit. Reason he didn't get picked is simple. He is not as good as those that did. That's why he is in China . . . not Europe or a decent Asian comp. Our other strikers come up against better defenders each week, in better leagues, and score as well. Joel takes on Chinese defenders, in a pretty shit league. Reap what you sow. Should have woke up a long time ago and pulled his head in. I think this article highlights one reason he wasn't picked. http://au.fourfourtwo.com/News/128890,verbeek-hails-ego-free-roos.aspx

Herein lies the reason why Joel won't be going - total unprofessionalism. Put aside for a moment whether Pim was right or wrong, Griffiths has come out and said Pim likes "brown noses" in the SMH or words to that effect, effectively insulting all those players who were picked. Good luck in getting an Asian Cup berth because the new coach, whoever it is, will run a mile from that attitude. And for what it's worth the guy has always been a potential red card walking.

The valid point is his poor attitude. Imagine that kind of influence in a world cup squad. You don't want someone with that type of attitude in any elite squad. Pim would be well aware of his loose cannon attitude. Word gets around fast. Now he has just dug his own grave.

And then he wonders why he didn't get selected? Why would you even go watch him play with an attitude like that.

Why is everyone carrying on like he said these comments and then missed out on selection ? He was playing oversea's & scoring lots of goals. I cant help but agree with Mark457.

Just playing the devils advocate (I dont think he should be anywhere near the national team with this attitude), he's not so much saying that he is better than the players that made the cut, but rather that Pim has made the decision that he is not good enough for the team, without giving him a chance, and essentially that Pim wouldnt have a clue whether Joel is good enough because he doesn't pay him any attention. Just having a sook, and Im sure Pim has his reasons for leaving him out, but you can see where Joel's coming from

@skippy I was refering to his atitude. If he stfu in the first place and was more respectful he would be in south Africa training for the world cup but obviously not.

Let's be realistic here Joel, you were never going to the WC but in saying that his speaking the mind of im sure plenty of other players who keep getting overlooked.
I hope the new man in charge gives these players a decent chance so we can actually all see for ourselves that theyre not capabale instead of 1 mans opinion.

Joel, the reason he has left you out was because of your attitude, and your just proving him right.

What do you expect him to do? Just shutup and take it from this dull nonetity of a coach who thankfully after the WC will disappear into the lower echelons of Moroccan youth football.
It isn't just the fact that Verbeek disregards players like Griffiths, Bosnar and Ognenovski, its the utterly disrespectful way that he does it. There is no excuse for that.

I can see why he is upset he didn't even get a look in with the A-leagueroos for the Asian cup games and all, but this kind of behavior is just added reason why Pim didn't want him there. His attitude is appalling, and it doesn't matter how good he has been playing - he would disrupt team harmony.
