 Getting WAY too carried away. Just like we told our kiwi friends, don't get ahead of yourselves from a friendly.

Good result. Decent game. Kennedy had a shocker in the first half. Touch was awful.

Holman was good when he came on. Good injection of energy. Could be a good weapon off the bench if used in the right way.

Putting Culina on the right was smart. Bresh is good in the middle, dictates play well.

Moore isn't great, Beauchamp isn't either but I'd play him tbh.

Wilkshire is one of our best players. Don't doubt it.

They were all over us in the first half, didn't get many shots away but they had much better field position and looked far more threatening.
We rode the storm, and the extra days we have had at altitude paid off at the end, they tired and we just knocked it around with relative easy.

Well done boys!

Effective but ugly.

The danes did leave out a number of first string players.

I'll be cheering for us in SA but can't help being concerned that we are becoming as boring as Italy without the same quality strikers.

Good game boys. Defensively speaking very very good. Moore is back to his usual good standards and Beauchamp looked good coming on.

Grella is a worry though his challenges could see him getting sent off in the world cup, he seems to mis time them and I don't think referee's are going to like our physical nature, and opposing players could fake it when Grella is involved. So I'd replace him with Valeri.

I thought Vidiosic should get a place in the 23 he looks quite sharp and seems to provide an x factor coming off the bench.

A bit worried though with Kennedy despite scoring the goal his touch looked ordinary at times and we kept playing the long ball which isn't going to get us goals.

For all those Holman haters eat it, he is a good energetic player (impact player) who does some nice touches (and isn't lazy like Carle who didnt make the squad deservedly so)

I have to think games played at altitude are going to be interesting with the bounce of the ball and control of it could see some biazzare goals at the world cup.

Btw: Are we playing USA at altitude? Because we need to play in the same conditions at ground level when we face germany. Just a thought.

I liked Pim's comment about the Germany game being the biggest game in 4 years for Australia..

The five to miss out: Eugene, Oar, Lowry, Garcia and Jeddiank.

My prediction Australia to get a draw or score a goal on the counter.

Go the Aussies do us proud, I have confidence in Pim as well, despite not being pretty is damn effective.

Yeah wasn't the greatest of matches, the game was pretty slow, not many chances.

Denamrk controlled most of the play, but we defended pretty well, Neill and Moore were good at the back.

it didn't look like we were ever going to score, hardly created a good chance and then scored a pretty soft goal.

Luke Wilkshaw was by far our best player, some good balls, defended well.

Once again, another pretty poor performance, but another win.

I'm willing to admit when a player has played well. The last two games have been his best for us. I don't think he is the 'saviour', but he certainly seems to have gained more confidence and remembered that you are supposed to pass to the guys in the yellow shirts :P

He's definitely improved from a year ago.

George, you seem to be the only one talking sense on here. The only thing worse than the Australian performance was the Danish performance. Good defending and ?????????????

Oh, and the TV production was appalling. It was like watching a match from the 60s. A static camera giving broad vision from the half way line plus close ups of players from a couple of other cameras. Not acceptable in this day and age.

Once again even Neill tried to score and his shot was on target. Excellent defence, solid squad, good formation, ball possession, smart forward passing to create attacks and shots on target = WIN. You don't actually know anything at all about football, do you?

Our passing wasn't cohesive at all and we really should have hit denmark on the counter several times. We were lucky they didn't have a player who could cut our defence open today. Kahlenberg didn't play well at all fortunately.

We don't want Neill getting shots on target, we want our STRIKERS getting our shots on target. And if you genuinely believe that Australia is going to make the semis (having to beat England/France or Slovakia/Argentina to get there) then you're a loon.

For the record, Spain and Brazil are on the complete opposite side of the draw and the only way we'll be playing them is if we make the final.

I swear I need to find some like minded people to drink with, watching the game without any commentary at the pub tonight by myself is shite :P (then again that doesnt help when i've just moved across the country)

cant wait for that fifa fan fest stuff at darling harbour.

I think Emmo tries to get his crosses in from better spots. Wilkshires cross that led to the goal wasn't great. Emmo usually tries to beat the man first. But hey, Wilky can cross from back, and Emmo can cross from wing. :P

Wilkshire needs to play the overlap more effectively, because his crosses are lethal, but they're going in too early.

Holman didn't play that well, Nico. His performance was acceptable in an australian side that was more interested in waht they were having for dinner. An acceptable performance but nothing more. I want to see how he does against the US.

We took some time getting used to the flight of the ball. Denmark seemed to get going with it better, earlier. But from about 25 minutes our possession got a lot better. We managed to get some movement through the midfield and a few shots off. Second half subs worked well generally, maybe Carney needs some more work and Grella needs some work on his timing. The Danes defended high up the pitch and worked some good pressure on our backs and Schwarzer.

Playing the devil's advocate here, Myabe we owed a bit of thanks to the bounce of the pitch in getting the goal. The bounce of the deflected cross went over two defenders one of whom got thoroughly turned by Jesus.
An evenly fought match that was a bit devoid of attacking movement, I thought. No bacon fried (or saved) just a bit of a tussle.

Just a fun fact. Verbeek and Olsen have almost they same win % while in charge of their respective national teams. Verbeek has been managing Australia for a little over 2 years while Olsen has been managing Denmark for 10:shock: (and has got another extension). Imo that is a pretty amazing stat.

haha I must have been from what i've just read in other places. they really do annoy the crap out of me. the continuous drone i hope will be suffocated by the australian chants during the world cup :P

hmm.. all i need now is for pim to announce his final 23. I guess I'll have to wait til the morning...

do you reckon garcia played well enough to secure a spot on the 23? I can say he wasn't bad but he didn't really do to much either but from the general consensus moore and holman had a reasonable game.

so do people still think its lowry, oar, galekovic, garcia? or is there someone that wasn't featured like milligan or jedinak who will miss out?

thats unless we stop them from scoring and judging by our record that could happen :P
Our goals haven't come from the most beautiful of plays but we are scoring hopefully we continue that trend in the next few games. So far we've done that in the last two friendlies, even that wannabe hair model holman got one in too ;)

This and the fact that they don't have to travel as far and that they have more regular international matches makes for a more harmonious national side, making the job easier.

past 5 danish matches were against senegal, austria, thailand, singapore and poland. lord help us no wonder they went in as favourites.

Overall a good, consistent, reassuring performance that satisfied most of my uncertainties. Neither brilliant nor dominating but your kidding yourself if you still expect that in games of this nature. or in any international football in this century. Dont watch the game at my pub if you want to preach about how you thought we were more attacking in 06 or i will yell at you to STFU. It was all about testing the team dynamics and structure and for the most part we did well.

postives: wilkshire was MOM, and seems to just get better. the whole team seemed to gel and improve (especially in attack) over the game, the fitness levels are certainly there. Moore had a solid game to put his doubters in check, biggest worry in defence was more from a lack of speed in the wide defenders I thought, and we were lucky not to get caught out a couple of times in the first half. grella and garcia did themselves no favours. kennedy was average but took a cool "strikers" goal that suggests theres actually more to him than that iconic noggin. distribution from the keeper and backs was below par, hope we tidy that up a bit.

To be honest, I only came on here to back in the Holman love-in because he was brilliant. 1st game where he's shown his potential - that is, take away a couple of silly errors and you realise he has the goods. consistency is the only issue, and a big one granted. But tonight he skinned more players (cold.) and linked up more quickly and more effectively (both dribbling and passing, to feet) than any of our mids. If you don't see it yet its your own loss. suck it.
