So unsurprisngly Harry Potter is breaking all sorts of records.
First it broke the opening day record grossing $92.1m, smashing the previous record of $72.7m set by Twilight: New Moon in 2009.
And now it's broken the weekend grossing record with an opening weekend of $168.6m breaking the previous record of $158m, set by The Dark Knight in 2008.

X-Men First Class was the most homo-erotic movie I have ever seen. It was pretty cool, though.

Has anyone here seen Seven Samurai? I'm going through all the great foreign-language films and wanted a recommendation.

I've just watched La Haine and will be watching Three Colours this week. Uni's back, so I have to feed my brain.

That may be because the actor who played Crabbe got done for cocaine, so they dropped him from the storyline. Edited by benjo: 20/7/2011 12:38:17 PM

If you are watching foreign films, try to find a copy of La Scorta.
If there's one film I'd love to see Tarantino remake, it's this one.

I often describe movies as being "the best" when I tell someone what I think of them, but Seven Samurai truly is the best movie ever made (IMHO). For me, it's the quickest 200 minutes I can watch as each character is so carefully crafted and the story, dialogue and action is just perfect. Ran is also a great Kurosawa movie based on King Lear. Yojimbo is a great movie that has also been ripped off many times. Ikiru is also considered one of Kurosawa's best films and is worth checking out (though it's much more drama than the previously mentioned ones). Rashomon is also a classic which helped put Japanese movies on the map in the US and was part of the inspiration behind "The Usual Suspects" As you can tell... I'm a big Kurosawa fan and own just about all of his movies on DVD. On another note, a couple nights ago I rewatched "Infernal Affairs" - which is the Hong Kong movie that "The Departed" is based off - and I stand by my initial reaction after seeing the Hollywood remake... nowhere near as good as the original.

It's something to do with Sony buying the rights. It's not the same without Toby Maguire. However, Garfield is a good actor.
Saw True Grit, loved it.

The only good Maguire Spiderman was #1. Why do you think Garfield is a good actor? I've only seen him in the Social Network, and the less said about that movie, the better.

Cloverfield. Farken
He was a man of specific quirks. He believed that all meals should be earned through physical effort. He also contended, zealously like a drunk with a political point, that the third dimension would not be possible if it werent for the existence of water.
