Anyone else seen the new Star Trek film? Ive never watched Star Trek ever besides these movies so i dont really know much about the show or characters. Benedict Cumberbatch is brilliant in this film.

A mate lent me his copy of We are Marshall the other day - I'd never seen it before.
I really enjoyed it. Kind of like a not-as-good Remember the Titans. Definately did not regret investing the time to watch it at all. It'd take a strong man to admit that he didn't have even the slightest man-crush on Matthew McConaughey #justsayin

Saw 'We're The Millers'on Monday. A whole lot funnier than I was expecting. Anyone who was worried about how Jason Sudeikis would go after SNL, don't be. Jennifer Aniston though, jesus fucking christ Edited by sydneycroatia58: 4/9/2013 11:07:52 AM

jlm8695 wrote:Wow. Just watched Drive. Definitely one of, if not the best movie I have seen in recent years. The scene in the hotel/motel changes everything about the film in 5 seconds, yet it's all a seamless transition. Gosling owns the screen, awesome performance.
Edited by jlm8695: 27/8/2013 11:50:33 PM The next movie that the director and Gosling made, Only God Forgives, is a lot more disappointing unfortunately.

Watched the movie Epic the other night. Pretty decent for a kids movie. Basically a modern version of Fern Gully.

Just saw:
1. Seven Psychopaths. Funny, violent, a lot of fun. Recommended.
2. Melancholia. Don't know what to make of this. Some amazing imagery to begin with. Then utter boredom/tedium for part 1. Part 2 was better, Kirsten Dunst topless is a highlight. After it finished, my thoughts were that I just wasted 2 hours of my life. But then days later, I still have a mental image of some of the scenes that illicit some sort of emotional connection. Weird.
3. Chronicle. Enjoyable for the special effects. I felt they didn't develop the kid who turns bad to make it believable that he would turn that bad. Worth watching though.
4. Apollo 18. Shot as a doco. Some creepy moments. Pretty good.
5. World War Z. Predictable zombie/infection movie you've probably seen a dozen times before, except its Brad Pitt's turn to be the hero.
6. Solaris with George Cloney. I really like this one.
7. The Butterfly Effect. Loved this time travel movie with Ashton Kutcher!
8. Equilibrium. Cool Orwellian Big Brother story-line, Matrix-like scenes.

Quote:7. The Butterfly Effect. Loved this time travel movie with Ashton Kutcher! It's not really 'time travel'. It's about Chaos Theory. And personally I think it had a pretty shit ending. Watched The Gangster Squad the other night and really enjoyed it.

On paper it should of been one of my favorite movies, in reality it was just a bit above average Hollywood blockbuster that dealt in stereotypes

In reality it was a 21st century remake of The Untouchables. But it was still a good film.

It's not that he 'goes back in time', it's that he can control the outcome of certain events at 'forks in the road' in his life.
Anyway, like I said, it's a shit ending.

Anyway, like I said, it's a shit ending. There is more than one ending, they made a few different versions for different countries, I have see 2 I'm told there is another. 1. He meets the Girl in the street and introduces himself, you assume everything is good from there 2. He Kills himself in the womb - (something Ashton should have really done  ) 3. He see the girl in the street and opts to ignore any advances. You assume he realised he keeps screwing up her life.

Yeah, think I've seen the one where he dies in the womb.
Agree with afro, could have ended better.

Agree with afro, could have ended better. The one where he dies in the womb was the commercial release. Shit ending.

A godzilla trailer is floating around on the net. Doesn't show much, but looks very dark. I'm definitely interested.

You never find out what the monster was, where it came from, or where it went.

If I wanted that I'd just follow Michael Bloomberg around New York for a day. I'd get more closure too.

Cloverfield wasn't supposed to have a storyline, it wasn't supposed to have any character or plot development, you weren't supposed to find out what the monster was, you weren't supposed to get any kind of closure or resolution.
I'm not a massive fan of it either, I can understand if you didn't like it but you seem to be missing the point of the whole hand-held camera disaster film genre.
