I hope they give Lowry a run at left back to test him at international level. IMO that was the biggest problem position in the team at the world cup. Hopefully he steps up as well as Vidosic and Williams.

This is a fantastic schedule of matches and will allow the new coach to build some momentum. Credit to FFA. Friendlies such as this are an important part of tournament preparation. We have come a long way in the last 6 to 10 years. People should remember that there was a time not so long ago that our national team played only a handful of matches in a calendar year. These regular matches for the national side can only be beneficial. Good news.

There's talk of hosting Chile at home later this year, it better happen and it better happen in Melbourne so that we get a proper 'farewell game' to see off some of the boys.

Will be in Sydney. Brisbane had Indonesia, Melbourne had New Zealand.

I said Melbourne wants a proper farewell game.

Toys and prams.

It's about time Perth got a proper Socceroos game.

And Adelaide - its been too freeking long!!!!!!

A melbournian complaining about what opponents they get - they should count their lucky stars they get games unlike Adelaide and Perth

Most of us in Melbourne were happy to hand the NZ game to either of your cities, trust us.

We will take it in a heartbeat

Im just saying its a bit rich to complain about Socceroo games when you are the lucky ones that get to see them in the first place. You get to see them play live, you get to see them train or if there is a day were the players meet the fans its you guys that get to do that with Cahil, Kewel, Schwarzer, Brech and co.....weve shed as many tears over Qualifying losses and stayed up through countless late nights praying for a great result as pasionatly as any Victorian, Sydnesider or Bannana beder and what do we get........f all

I still be a proud Socceroo and a United member till the day im pushing up dasies but sometimes its infuriating not to be given a chance.

Totally get you, at the time, a lot of folk here felt that the FFA was trying to milk Melbourne for all it was worth. Many of us were happy for the May 'farewell game' to have been hosted elsewhere.

we need to take the asian cup seriously this time.
that seemed to be our biggest downfall.

august looks like its confirmed with slovenia

looking at the september clashes
supposed we are playing european nations, these are the only nations not playing on those fifa dates

3rd sep switzerland, denmark, czech republic
7th sep wales, cyprus, spain

oct is in sydney (sydney fc are giving away tickets to 'a socceroos clash tba in october' when you sign up new members

nov and the january warm up are anyones guess.

The Victorian Government pay for the main game each year. Unfortunately for Victorians that was the World Cup send off against New Zealand. From memory the MCG is not available anyway as it is under preparation for the cricket season in October. Sydney getting the Chile game would be appropriate as that is were most people of Chilean decent reside.

While the result may be meaningless, the value is in getting the team together, building cohesion, learning to play the system, etc.
