Any match reports from the Turkey game?
From the England match the keepers positioning and decision making for all the goals was poor. The Newcastle keeper was invited but didn't attend for some reason.

We actually had 5 o/s players take part in the pre tournament, 2 keepers and 3 outfield players. The out field players were given limited game time, not all in their respective positions.
the keeper at Newcastle is the one that was at Derby.

Dylan Tombides, a young striker from the west ham Academy, played in a few games in the actual tournament.
As for how many players in the uk qualify for the u17's we have 5 at Portsmouth alone, then Tombides, we have a 16 y.o CF at Blackburn, the goalkeeper at Man U, the gk at Newcastle United, and another gk at Derby I think, plus there are one or two more in the championship, we have one or two midfielders in Serie B who still qualify, and Julius Davies at Bayern Munich.

It is a scholarship system grizz. You cant make everyone happy when it comes to any sort of selection for representative honours, some one always misses out. I just hope the best possible team is selected and its not agenda driven. I only know of the three lads in the UK mate, although there are possibly others around Europe.

If they do qualify then the AIS will still have that same problem, using the English based boys won't sit very well with alot of people if AIS lads are benched to make room for the English. Is the AIS a user pays system or are the boys on scholarships similar to the English Academy setup. Don't suppose you know how many lads there are in England and other countries that would qualify for our U17's. I wouldn't envy the person who was given the job of having to put together Australia's strongest team, as comparing the overseas boys to the ones still in Australia without them competing against each other on a regular basis would be a nightmare.

Im not sure exactly what the reason was. But I believe that the AIS has to justify its program and to do that they must pick the players in the current program. Although there were only 3 UK based players that were looked at as I said, 2 GK and an outfield player. It is possible though that the UK based players will be selected for the U/17 World Cup if the boys from the AIS can qualify through coming top 4 in the Asian U/16 championships.

Was there any reason for that? Were they only allowed to nominate a certain size Squad for the tournament, so they just went with the boys that made the trip or were the English based lads no better than what we have.

Well the English lads have won the friendly tournament by defeating Portugal 3-1. Even though Turkey beat Australia the English lads had a better goal difference in the end. Australia's boys lost 2-0 to Turkey ending their tournament with, 0 wins, 0 draws and 3 losses and with a goal difference of 3 goals for and 10 against. Maybe the Australian goalies based in the UK need to be looked at a bit more closely? Only the AIS based keepers were used for the tournament.
grizzwold,, this may have been the case in the past but I can assure you that the players that were on the park for England were the players that the coach picked. The clubs can not refuse a player of national team selection.

Was talking to my pommie mate he believes the best English players don't play for their country they are encouraged not to by their clubs. hoping this isn't true as that puts Australia along way behind alot of countries in Europe as many are very competitive when playing England.

That English team looks like absolute quality going by the highlights. Sure some of these 16 year olds will be only a little while off. The number 7 for their team ripped us a new hole and our GK had one to forget.

England won their first game of The FA International U17 Tournament with a convincing 4-0 win over Australia in Grimsby tonight to leapfrog Portugal at the top of the group.
Goals from Matthias Fanimo, Courtney Meppen Walters, Raheem Sterling and Nick Powell secured victory for John Peacock’s team and all four strikes were memorable.
A healthy crowd of more than 2,000 got behind the England youngsters from the start and the home team had an early chance to test their Antipodean visitors when Fanimo tried his luck with a shot from distance that rose just too high over the bar a few minutes in.
Manchester United youngster Luke Hendrie went a lot closer on nine minutes, however, just unable to twist his neck enough to direct a header from eight yards into the top corner.
West Ham United starlet Fanimo proved a real handful for the Australians, while the visitors were kept largely quiet by England’s back-line - their first real effort on 18 minutes when Dylan Tombides lashed a long-distance effort over Ben Garrett’s bar.
At the other end, England caused problems again when some quick feet and trickery from Alex Henshall on the left wing bamboozled his marker before his dangerous low cross was hacked behind for a corner at the near post on 22 minutes.
England kept plugging away in an entertaining first half hour and Tibbles had to be alert at his near post again when Morgan fired a shot on the turn.
The Blundell Park crowd sensed a goal might be coming and it duly arrived six minutes before half-time. England had their goal and it was a superb strike from Fanimo.
He picked up the ball on the right, cut inside on his left foot and unleashed a rasper that beat Tibbles and crashed in off the far post. It was no more than the wide man had deserved after a lively first-half.
Peacock’s boys doubled their lead just two minutes later and it was an equally impressive strike from Meppen Walters.
A free-kick from the right by Hendrie wasn’t dealt with and ended up with the unmarked Meppen Walters, who still had work to do, but finished with an unerring low left-footer from an acute angle to beat the retreating defenders on the line.
Both sides made changes for the second half, England bringing on Sterling, Powell and Max Clayton for Fanimo, Nat Chalobah and Jordan Cousins.
And it could have been 3-0 just 90 seconds after the restart, had Henshall’s dipping free-kick not glanced off the top of the bar instead of finding the top corner.
Two minutes later, it was three and it was a fine individual goal by Sterling with virtually his first touch as he ran from 35 yards to drill a fine effort across Tibbles from just inside the box.
The Liverpool midfielder showed he has pace to burn with a similarly electric run to play a one-two with Meppen Walters, but this time Tibbles did well to dive and block Sterling’s shot close in.
Two more changes on 56 minutes for Peacock’s side saw Ellis Plummer and Robbie Cotton on for Matty Regan and Jake Caskey. Then, Hallam Hope replaced the hard-working Morgan up front for the final 16 minutes.
Seconds later, and England could have had a fourth – again the top of the bar coming to Australia’s rescue from Sam Magri’s towering header from a corner.
They may have been largely on the back-foot but credit goes to Jan Versleijen’s team who kept going and almost had a goal back on 67 minutes but Anthony Proia’s close-range header went narrowly wide of the mark.
England also continued to create chances and another fine save from Tibbles saw him tip over Powell’s header with five minutes remaining.
Then the substitute did get his name on the scoresheet with a sweet free-kick from 20 yards in stoppage time to seal the win.
It’s now perfectly set up for final game against Portugal, who lost 3-2 to Turkey earlier in the day, in Scunthorpe on Sunday.
England U17: Garrett, Regan (Plummer 56), Cousins (Clayton 46), Magri, Chalobah (Powell 46), Hendrie, Caskey (Cotton 56), Walters, Morgan (Hope 64), Fanimo (Sterling 46), Henshall. Subs not used:- Pickford.
Head Coach: John Peacock.
Australia U17: Tibbles, Monaco, Chapman, Morton (Gallifuoco 80), Brown, Perkatis, Espindola (Degenek 46), Boahene (Melling 56), Proia, Patterson, Tombides (Makarounas 46). Subs not used:- Chapple, Remington, Izzo.

From the reports ive had, and they are not my reports,,2 of Australia's goals were scrappy 6 yard box conversions but the other was a very good goal and that Portugal should have had 6 goals.

More news to hand. The Aussie boys beat Tottenham academy 2-1 yesterday in preparation for the tournament against England, Portugal and Turkey starting on the 25th October. Not sure who the scorers were, but as soon as I do it will be on here. Not sure whether that is a good result or not, being an academy squad. I guess we will see what the results will be in the coming days.

It's probably a bit like the young African refugee, Julius Doe Davies, who is a midfielder at Bayern Munich (I think he was on the bench during the AFC u16's in late 2008, in which we choked). He only turns 16 early next month and was already involved in the Bayern Munich u17's last season.
I'm guessing he'd have a similar problem to Danning? Though he was in the squad in late 2008 I am pretty sure.
