If these rumours of Barca bidding 20m for Song are true, I'd take it in a heartbeat.

sydneycroatia58 wrote:People need to realise that top quality and big bame players leaving Arsenal is nothing new for us. We've been doing it for years, and were doing it way before Arsene came to the club. The difference now is those players are, somehow 90% of the time sold or let go at exactly the right time. I mean how many former big name players can you say whose career really prospered and took off after leaving Arsenal? I mean Cesc is the only real one I can think of, and even then that's only 1 year on. And ok Nasri, but again it's only 1 year on.
If a big name player is sold, most of the time it's Arsene's decision, and more often than not he gets it right. Only one recently that hasn't been his decision is Nasri, that's the only big player recently where the board made him sell the player. So Wenger coming out and saying "I had no choice" is an indication that he's sold him at the right time? How many big players left during our heyday? Overmars, Reyes, Van Bronkhaust? Good players, not the heart of our club. RVP, Nasri, Cesc... these guys are the spine of our team. Viera marked the end of an era. Edited by KenGooner_GCU: 18/8/2012 09:26:10 PM

Mannone, Djourou, Coquelin, Santos, Ramsey, Arshavin, Giroud. No song at all is very telling. Adds alot of weight to those rumours. Not thrilled with Jenkinson starting after some of his pre-season showings. Very interesting to see Podolski starting up top.

Wenger's laying down the law, he was furious that Song was looking at other options and he was offloaded quickly, if you think you're top shit and dont want to be at Arsenal fine, fuck off elsewhere... I wouldn't get too attached to any Arsenal players this season, they look like just hurting the fans again. My money is on Vermaelen or Walcott next summer.

 Anyone who thought Song was irreplaceable or that he was more important than RvP was needs their head checked. Sure he's a good midfielder, but there are more where he came from. He's no one of a kind midfielder like Cesc was. Song's not even close to our best midfielder ffs.

I may be wrong but I swear I remember reading a post by you when the RVP to Man Utd heated up that didnt matter as long as it wasn't Song because he was irreplaceable. If I didnt have a life Id try find it  On 2nd thought I may have so I think I need to get my head checked. But I think it was when RvP's statement first came out, in which case I'll chalk it up to my anger with RvP, because Song is most certainly not irreplaceable and was most definitely not more important than Robin. Also, Song became much more replaceable once the rumours about him and his agent came out. Tbh when that RvP statement came out I would've said just about any player was more important than him  Edited by sydneycroatia58: 19/8/2012 02:02:15 PM

As far as I'm concerned with Song, if Arsene wants rid of him then that's good enough for me. Also means this summer we've got rid of the last 2 players with any link to Darren Dein which, considering what's happened in the last few years, can only be a good thing.

Alex Song is a good footballer. Want to know why? Barcelona want him for a start. The fact is, will we find someone as good as Song for 15 million? Doubt it. When the season gets into swing we'll need a real destroyer like him. The match... urgh it was dull. Theo Walcott doing his bumper car impressions. Watching Gervinho is like watching a FIFA game with the L1 button glued down. Poldi constantly crowded out. Giroud missing a sitter... Biggest highlight was Santi who was class when he got the ball; I'm changing my tune with this guy what a cracking player. The fact is, this man was the only player who could make things happen for Arsenal. We really missed that RVP factor, someone to come out and score goals out of nothing. Someone who can really make things happen. Imagine him and Santi combining... What could have been? On the plus side, I thought we were solid defensively (for what little work we had to do). Arteta/Diaby actually worked really well and I was particularly impressed with Diaby after such a long time out. Carl Jenkinson had a great game in my opinion and got a few decent crosses in that forced the opposition to think. My MotM would probably be Arteta. Edited by KenGooner_GCU: 19/8/2012 02:54:11 PM
