Also it seems we now will be dipping into the transfer market with Squillaci looking like he has picked up a hamstring injury. That leaves us with only 2 fit CB's and Wenger has confirmed that if Squillaci is out for a bit we will have to move quickly for a player. Will know more later in the week.

Henry makes sensational Arsenal comeback

Thierry Henry has made a sensational return to Arsenal.

Gunners legend Henry, 33, the club’s record goal scorer, will train with Arsenal for the next fortnight before returning to the US.

Henry took part in his first training session yesterday and has agreed a regular programme of sessions until January 19 to help him stay in shape for the New York Red Bulls.

France World Cup star Henry had offers from Premier League clubs who wanted to sign him on loan for the next few weeks before the start of the MLS season.

But Henry just wanted to train with a club and Arsene Wenger granted his dream wish to go back to his beloved Arsenal.

Henry is also planning to offer some help and advice to Arsenal’s strikers in the next couple of weeks.

Several of Arsenal’s strikers still hold Henry in the highest regard and Theo Walcott has particular admiration for the ex-Gunners captain and has spoken many times of the advice and help he has received in the past.

Wenger allowed Beckham to train with Arsenal in the past and clearly believes older players can offer experience to his young stars.

Henry, who left for Barcelona in 2007, is still passionate about Arsenal and is a regular at the Emirates whenever he has time off from the MLS and is back in England.

But there was never any possibility of Henry going back to Arsenal in a playing capacity but he will be delighted to be training with his old club.

Will be a great move for the young lads.

Wouldn't call it a 'sensational' comeback, made me think we'd signed him or something.

Werder Bremen have apparently put a 20m price tag on Per Mertesacker. Basically rules out us going for him, Chris Samba is looking more and more like the best option every day. What I'd like to know is how does a defenders price tag go from 10m to 20m in 6 months, especially when his team has been conceding goals like a sieve all season.

Reserves: Aston Villa 10-1 Arsenal

Arsenal Reserves suffered a thoroughly disappointing night as they went down 10-1 at Aston Villa on Monday.

On an evening Neil Banfield and his side will want to forget in a hurry, Villa scored five times either side of the break to run out comprehensive winners.

The victory means they leapfrog Arsenal at the top of the table.

The home side were already a goal to the good when George Brislen-Hall received a straight red card after just 11 minutes and the second string never recovered.

Villa were the better side from start to finish as Arsenal succumbed to their heaviest defeat, at any level, in recent memory.

Banfield made three changes from the XI that had won 1-0 at West Brom back in early December.

Regular centre halves Ignasi Miquel and Sead Hajrovic were missing so Elton Monteiro partnered Nico Yennaris at the back. In the absence of the Spanish captain, Gilles Sunu was given the armband.

If anything Arsenal started on the front foot with Chuks Aneke and Jay Emmanuel-Thomas linking up well, the latter forcing a smart stop from Elliot Parish in the opening few seconds.

But, after just five minutes, the Gunners began to lose their way. An errant back pass let in Nathan Delfouneso who struck the outside of the post from a tight angle.

Then, four minutes later, the home side went ahead and it was all Arsenal’s making.

An innocuous long ball into the right channel seemed harmless at first. James Shea came out to deal with it, but he scuffed his left-footed clearance straight to Gary Gardner who expertly found the empty net from all of 40 yards.

A bad start was made even worse just two minutes later when Brislen-Hall received his marching orders for a lunge on the goalscorer.

Banfield was forced to reshuffle with Conor Henderson moving to left back and Sunu and Emmanuel-Thomas dropping deeper.

Andreas Weimann doubled the lead after 16 minutes before Arsenal began to frustrate Villa without really offering an attacking threat themselves.

That was until a crazy six-minute spell at the end of the first half.

Firstly, Nathan Baker was left unmarked at the back post and he squared for Chris Herd who had the simplest of headers to get a third.

Two minutes later, Jonathan Hogg lashed into the roof of the net to make it four.

Oguzhan Ozyakup then slipped inside the area and, when he handled, referee Ford was left with no option but to point to the spot. Gardner sent Shea the wrong way to get his second and Villa’s fifth in stoppage time.

Banfield reacted by bringing on Luke Freeman and Josh Rees at half time as Emmanuel-Thomas moved to centre half to counter Villa’s aerial threat.

But it just wasn’t happening for Arsenal. Another Herd header from close range made it six after 64 minutes. Delfouneso tapped into an empty net to make it seven nine minutes later.

The same man added an eighth with a cool finish ten minutes from time before substitute Roarie Deacon grabbed a consolation when he glanced home Emmanuel-Thomas’ in-swinging free kick.

Herd sealed his hat-trick four minutes from the end and Weimann got a tenth in injury time.

So it seems Almunia has been talking to his friends saying he's on his way out, and Galatasaray is looking like his most likely destination.

Don't see it happening till the summer though tbh because of us extending Mannone's loan deal with Hull till the end of the season.

In other news. Wenger has confirmed that Squillaci is out for around 2-3 weeks and Vermaelen has suffered a "little setback", and that we will be looking around for a centre half. have absolutely no fucking clue who he'll go for, no one does, and I think we'll only find out once it's close to a done deal. That's if we buy anyone at all.

Wenger - We’ll look around for a centre half

By Richard Clarke

Arsène Wenger is on the market for a centre half after Thomas Vermaelen suffered “a little setback” over the weekend.

In the past few days, the Arsenal manager confirmed he would look to acquire a new defender if the Belgian had a delay in his recovery from an Achilles problem or Sebastien Squillaci was sidelined for some time with the hamstring injury he collected against Leeds on Saturday.

The latter will be out for only “two to three weeks” but, after this latest development, Wenger was not prepared to put a return date on Vermaelen. Hence his decision to enter the market.

“He has another check today,” the manager told TV Online on Tuesday afternoon. “He had another setback on Saturday that we are concerned with. We are consulting top specialists around the world. We’ll know more on Wednesday.

“Unfortunately I can’t give you any precise date but I concede that, with this little setback from Thomas, we are in a situation where we will have to look around.

“Squillaci will be out for a maximum of three weeks, minimum two. It is a hamstring injury but it is not too bad - a grade one. He’ll be back in two weeks if all goes well.”

As for Ipswich in Wednesday’s Carling Cup Semi-Final first leg, Wenger confirmed that he will continue to rotate his squad once more and that Wojciech Szczesny will stay in goal.

Some team news ahead of the Ipswich game. There are some whispers that Ramsey might start which would be great. I suspect Djourou will be rested with Song dropping back into the centre of defence. If I had to guess I think it'll be something like this.

---Szczesny---

--Eboue---Song--Koscielny---Gibbs--

---Ramsey-----Wilshere---

---Rosicky---

--Bendtner-----------------Arshavin--

---Van persie---

With Van persie and Bendtner regularly switching positions.

Line-up v Ispwich:
Szczesny, Eboue, Djourou, Koscielny, Gibbs, Walcott, Wilshere, Fabregas, Denilson, Arshavin, Bendtner.

Subs: Shea, Eastmond, Vela, Miquel, Ramsey, Song, Chamakh

Disappointed to see Denilson out there instead of Ramsey or Eastmond, also surprisingly no Rosicky in the squad either. Should be pretty straight forward with Cesc out there marshalling the midfield.

It is absolutely imperative that we play a full strength team in the 2nd leg, can't afford not to make the final.

Against Arsenal it's a stupid approach unless you're Man City who have world class defenders. Let em park the bus, I'd rather that then them come out at us because that's when we struggle. With a full strength team should have no problems with Ipswich.

Yes but you guys have a game this weekend and next and a midweek champions league game right?

There must be concern for over-playing your play makers? This is assuming Fab and Nasri will play on the weekend, the champions league and then the carling cup (4 matches in 2 weeks and then another on the weekend following the CC).

We've got West Ham this week, then the FA Cup replay against Leeds midweek, then Wigan and then 2nd leg of the Semi. Then after the 2nd leg we either have a weekend off of or a game against Huddersfield.

With our squad at the moment we should be able to get through it, especially if we buy another centre back which we will probably do this week or next.
