In other news, Titi gets another Arsenal return, well sort of. This time we go to him. July 26th we'll play Red Bulls in New York. Our first match in the US since we played Independiente in Miami in 1989.

Quote:
New York Red Bulls to Host English Club Arsenal FC on July 26 at Red Bull Arena

The 2013 Supporters’ Shield winning New York Red Bulls announced today that they will face English club Arsenal FC on Saturday, July 26 at Red Bull Arena at 5:00 PM. The match pits current New York captain and legendary Arsenal forward Thierry Henry against the club where he scored a record 226 goals in all competitions.

The game will be Arsenal's only match on its visit to the United States. The Arsenal first team last visited the United States for an exhibition match with Independiente of Argentina in Miami, Florida in 1989. It will be Arsenal’s second encounter with the Red Bulls in three years, following a 1-1 draw at the 2011 Emirates Cup.

TICKET INFORMATION

Current 2014 Red Bulls Full Season Ticket Holders will have this match included in their plans. At this moment, the only way to purchase tickets for the Red Bulls-Arsenal contest is by purchasing a 2014 Full Season Ticket Plan by calling 1.877.727.6227 or logging onto tickets.newyorkredbulls.com. Only a limited amount of new season tickets sold will include the Arsenal match at the preferred Season Ticket Holder price. Further ticket details will be released at a later date.

REACTION:

Red Bulls forward Thierry Henry: “It goes without saying that hosting Arsenal at Red Bull Arena will be a special moment for me both on a professional and personal level. As I have said before, the club is in my heart and this will be another terrific chapter in my relationship with Arsenal Football Club. Along with my teammates, I am excited to host Arsenal in New York – one of the greatest cities in the world – and hope that Red Bulls and Arsenal fans will be able to enjoy the match."

Red Bulls Sporting Director Andy Roxburgh: “Under the guidance of Arsene Wenger, Arsenal FC has established a style and approach to soccer that is globally recognized and admired. The quality and caliber of talent that has played at Arsenal is personified by our own captain Thierry Henry – an Arsenal legend. We are thrilled to host Arsenal at Red Bull Arena in what should be a very special day for Thierry and supporters of both clubs.”

Red Bulls Chief Financial Officer Luis Miguel Garcia: “Arsenal FC is undoubtedly one of the most recognizable global soccer brands and we are excited to welcome them to the United States and New York. Aligning with our goal to be the country’s top soccer franchise, we are delighted to bring such a marquee club to Red Bull Arena for our fans. We expect that this will be one of the top local sporting events in the area this summer.”

Arsenal Chief Executive Officer Ivan Gazidis: “We are delighted to be visiting the United States for the first time in 25 years. We enjoy fantastic support there and in particular in New York so we are looking forward to providing our fans with an opportunity to watch the team play live.

"The fact that Thierry is the New York Red Bulls’ club captain makes this a particularly special fixture, and everyone involved with the Club is looking forward to it.”

Arsenal Manager Arsène Wenger: “This will be a great chance to play in front of supporters who have not seen the team play before. The New York Red Bulls will be midway through their season, so they will provide a good test. Obviously it will be good to play against Thierry. He is a very special player in our Club’s history and I know my players and the supporters will enjoy this very much.”

So that's our one overseas pre-season match, not a bad one at that.

What about if you miss out on top 4? Increasingly possible - have to assume City will beat you on Saturday and then that game away to Everton is HUGE. Lose that and you'll probably drop to 5th.

Now that the title is gone just watch us go and beat City  In our element now fighting for 4th spot, will probably win every game for the rest of the season

Don't feel like you owe us that favour or anything but it would be convenient.

It really would be typical of us to do it

I'd rather you did than you didn't

Wouldn't mind seeing more of this.

Was one of the few positives out of the Swansea match. Imo should start, if not against City, than definitely against Everton. Would like to see him and Flamini starting.

Yepp. Arteta has the passing range yet chooses not to use it. Ramsey still a couple of weeks away so Kallstrom should start alongside Flamini. Enjoyed him barging over a Swansea player in the corner too

Yeah Arteta is being used as a defensive midfielder right now, most of the time he's just trying to break up play, dunno why Wenger don't start with Flamini alongside him every game that would surely free him up more as a deep lying playmaker.

Although Flamini did start against Swansea so really dunno why Arsenal's backline looked as shaky as it did. :/

Flamini-Arteta simply doesn't work at all. Only one decent game and that was against Napoli.

How did they accommodate them all at the start of the season with Ramsey fit? Was it Arteta + Flamini + Ramsey in the middle and Wilshere out wide?

Arteta didn't start for the first 6 games.

When he did it was a narrow 4-2-3-1 with Wilshere, Ozil and Ramsay in front of Arteta and Flamini IIRC?

Arteta and Flamini haven't started that many games together this season IIRC and the only good performance I remember with them starting is Napoli at home. All the others are ones to forget.

Arteta-Flamini may be great in theory, but just hasn't worked this season.

I'd go as far as saying Arteta's days starting in the midfield, at least as a 'defensive' midfielder are numbered.

We had Walcott back then, Flamini/Arteta would rotate as would Wilshere/Cazorla on the LW.

It was just a whole lot of rotation on the wings-Wilshere/Podolski/Gnabry/Cazorla/Walcott. Ramsey only played 2 games on the wing from memory- Napoli home and Dortmund away.

Yepp, it's the reason why Wilshere played so many games. This year has been absolutely horrible for midfield injuries- Cazorla missed a month,Ramsey 3, Poldi 3, Oxlade 5, Arteta 1, Walcott 2 before ACL, and now Jack/Ozil. Truly bewildering how we were still technically in the race up until a couple of games considering how hard we've been hit.

Thank fuck Giroud/defence haven'tt gone down although Giroud's out on his legs atm.

Would take either of the Bender brothers. We'll definitely be seeing a German coming in, most probably Jung when Sagna leaves. Ginter/Bender also possibilities.

That'll depend on whether Leverkusen qualify for the ECL I'd think.

It's a good thing you guys were overstocked on midfielders
Ramsay's missed 20 games.
Podolski's missed 22 games.
Oxlade's missed 30 games.
Arteta's missed 11 games.
Walcott's missed 28 games.
Wilshere's missed 10 games.
Ozil's missed 7 games.

That's a lot of games for core players.

German press reporting recently that we're interested in 21 year old Swiss international striker Josip Drmic who's scored 15 goals in 26 league games this season including 9 in 10 games since the winter break.

They say football is a game of fine margins and fuck me is it ever. If not for a stupid totally avoidable own goal and a slight touch off Joe Hart's ankle we'd be in 3rd a point off Chelsea.

Gotta say I think people may have been writing you off a bit early.

Looked at the table this morning and you're not too far off. If City win their games in hand and we win tonight it does make 3rd a bit of a stretch but it's definitely not over. Next week against Everton is a huuuge game for you guys. Win and top 3 is back on, lose and you're worried about losing 4th.

Definitely possible that we win all of our next 6 games. A win against Everton and Wigan and we'll be flying. Don't think we can win the title obviously but at least finish the season on a strong note going into (hopefully) an FA Cup final.

Like I said before, the fine margins of football. In the last week we've been a stupid OG and a ridiculous save fro Hart away from being just 1 pt behind Chelsea.

Like jlm said, more so now about finishing the season strong. We can definitely win the rest of our games and should be aiming to, and with you still to play Sp*rs, Chelsea and City. City still to play you obviously and Everton, I mean if things go right 3rd and maybe even 2nd definitely not out of reach. As Chelsea showed last night, who the fuck knows what's going to happen
