Have always felt a loan was the better option, and the more likely one.

Loan move is a good one .He needs a time and if he improves hopefully he can flourish in the red and white

El Toro wrote:Thoughts on Nani rumours??? Totally unnecessary imo. If we only sign one temperamental bitch we are linked to this window I would hope it would be Balotelli. Nani, oh god no. He has been terrible for years. And I don't know how he's lasted so long at United, I guess that goes for a number of dead wood hanging around there the last couple of years.

So it seems we have spent 66m pounds on 4 players, with only whatever sum for Eisfield in return. Surely Wenger will sell someone, he can't have such a lopsided balance in window can he? Add in a 20m or so DM and we're looking at 90m pound spend here. Still can't believe Chambers has cost us more than Verm, Boss or BFG - you can see why Wenger hates buying British!
Liverpool have already spent 80m or so. Chelsea would be similar I would have thought. Crazy money all round!

I don't think he has to sell, he may choose to though to keep everyone happy in terms of playing time. I think this "spending spree" has been coming for a while, if you look at the transfer activity over say the last five years, just off the top of my head, Arsenal would be close to breaking even in the transfer department. While the likes of City and Chelsea would be minus hundreds of millions Arsene has done amazingly well to keep arsenal in the top 4 considering the money or lack of he has spent. But now with the reemergence of Liverpool, and increasing threat from Everton and Spurs. He has really been "forced" to spend some money Now he just needs the likes of, Wilshire, chamberlain to really start fulfilling their potential and arsenal should give the title a good crack this season.

I also wouldn't say Arsene has been 'forced' into spending. I think it's just a case that now he's able to spend larger amounts. He's alway said he's not afraid to spend, and he's not, he just doesn't want to pay over the odds and for the last few years hasn't been able to pay over the odds even a little. Now he can afford to pay a little over the odds for a player like Chambers.
Although him spending a decent amount on young English talent from Southampton isn't anything really new. Still remember the anger when we signed Ox for £12m

And once you're behind the pack, it takes a lot of money to catch up.

This, the only real remarkable pick-up (not that I'm not delighted with our other three signings) is Sanchez, which isn't even that remarkable when you take into account Ozil last year.

I think the biggest surprise has been how quickly and early we've got our business done. I mean it was 18 days between the Sanchez signing and the Chambers signing. 4 signings in 18 days before the end of July i fucking nuts for us

We received roughly 17 million from Cesc/Vela combined and then 3 million for Djourou leaving us with a net spend of around 40million so far (using highest transfer fees). The important thing with finances that gets overlooked is that we freed up roughly 250k in wages from players leaving which covers the current transfers as well.

Reus has apparently rejected a contract extension that would remove the buy out clause in his contract that activates in 2015. Reus to link up with his boyhood idol Roz. Reus.

This maybe a stupid question, but how do they get those different patterns on the pitch?

So Allardyce has claimed Jenkinson to West Ham on loan will be completed in the next 24 hours. Hull were interested but Jenks wanted to stay in London apparently.

Bellerin needs to work a bit on def, but his offense is fantastic! Campbell exciting as well, a bit raw though. All in all, pretty entertaining half for pre-season

Only pre-season and against a tin pot team but the runs Alexis was making behind the defence make me moist. Ozil is going to have a field day when Alexis and Walcott are on the pitch together.
