Can't believe we managed to get someone to pay £15m for Vermaelen in the last year of his contract

Another captain sold, but the first one in a while where it's not a big worry. Means another CB will come in now. Did love this

Now to see who will be named captain. It really should be Per, and I get the feeling it will be.

I think it will be Arteta, doesn't really matter if he's playing or not and he's already the leader of our club in the changerooms apparently.
On Vermaelan, fantastic fee, hope he does well but his professionalism has been top notch. Must have been hard to watch from the bench whilst being captain, but he never kicked up a fuss and never went public with his request to leave, handled it like a true professional.

Douglas Costa on loan doesn't make a whole lot of sense. Only scenario where it makes sense is we sign him on loan and go hard for Reus next summer. Would also mean Poldi's time is up imo.

We've got the better Yaya, not worried at all.
Looks like we'll play more of a 433 today, like we did against Benfica.

Anyone know yet if Alexis' role will be more as a striker or as a winger at Arsenal?

Was just looking on Arsenal Mania. The amount of negativity on those boards is amazing. So much bitter hate for players that have put in their all for us like Wilshere, Cazorla, Giroud and Arteta. I'll never understand this.

Lets face it the big clubs in the world such as the Manchester United, Arsenal, Liverpool, Barcelona, Real Madrid have a huge proportion of very plastic fans. And newly big clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City would have an even bigger % of plastic fans. Obviously making assumptions here but do think they hold up. Its not surprising to have a lot of fans 'support' the club but be plastic enough to hate most things. Plastic perhaps, but I think it's more to do with a lack of knowledge. Just because you are a fan of a sport or team doesn't mean you understand how the game works. Prime example, David Luis voted into the team of the WC even after producing one of the worst defending displays you will ever see. There are many more I can't be bothered writing. A typical fan will see a win and automatically think that their team has played well and beat the other team. And a loss means they played bad and need to improve. While a coach or some one educated knows it isn't as simple as one or the other and a lot of factors have played a part in the result.

Bfg is slow and that's the reason he wasn't in the starting xi got Germany . Arteta is shit and slow so shouldn't be captain

Also Arteta confirmed as captain, even though I hope he isn't a regular starter he was still the obvious choice. Well done to him.

So much talk about how it wasn't City's first choice side. It wasn't ours either. I mean we played fucking Nacho Monreal at CB for the 2nd half and still kept a clean sheet

They had 4/5 starting players playing, we had 8. They definitely had a weaker team out.

Oh they definitely had a weaker team out, but not as if it was some 5th string youth team like the way some people seem to think it was. I mean that side City put out is as good as any team outside the top 5 or 6 in the league imo.

Without Silva starting up their creactivity is halved, just saying for starters, their backline was a skeleton. Hey all power to you but their side sucked whereas yours had more quality as mentioned, jlm says 8, 3 off full squad come on sydcro

Seems they're they're often long time fans.... Just negative people who love to tear people down. There's always a few players at any given time who become fashionable on forums to use as scapegoats and to bash, whether they deserve it or not. Happens in any team in any sport.
