"Yes, he has not won a trophy for six years but what does that mean? The quality of his side has not been reduced." Means he's failed to win even with a good side. Doesn't it? There are alot of things that have happened in that time, its not that simple. For a start, we moved to the Emirates which means there are 50% more fans watching every game so theres more pressure on to win at home, so its been a tough transition. Secondly, our best players got older (Viera, Campbell, Henry particularly, Bergkamp, Pires, Reyes, Adams). I mean sure, we had RvP and Fabregas and Walcott and Nasri come in to replace them who were all great players, but you look at those names who left and those are some of the game's best players of the last half century! Thirdly, the EPL got harder to win, and we have never been successful in Europe for some reason we hate playing there. ManU became better and better, and Chelsea jumped in in 04-05 and brought in some of the best sides British Football had ever seen, and now the new kids City aren't helping. Lastly, because we moved to the Emirates, we have a $600m (350m pound) debt which means we need to pay that off before we start splashing the money for the top players, but it will happen. Problem is, Emirates will need to be expanded in the next 5-10 years because the season ticket waiting list is already at 30-40,000 more than the ground, so the debt will go up a bit. Anything i missed sydcro? So in other words, Wenger failed to appropriately adjust to changes that happen all the time in football and failed to keep up with the competition. Ergo, he's not that good a manager anymore. The only change he couldn't adjust to was the ridiculous increase in wages, and that's not because he failed to. It's because he wasn't able to. He wants to because he knows he has to but he can't, and that's our biggest problem. Not transfer fees but the huge wages that we cannot afford to pay. But wait, that directly contradicts Fergie's contention that Wenger still has a good squad.

Decent first XI and a couple good back ups but then it's nothing.

I'm sure Wenger would spend the money on wages if he could. He increased everyone's wages when he first came to the club. I think it's the board. They're well renowned for being tightarses and without forward thinking people like David Dein on the board, then Arsene will have to struggle on a shoe-string budget. There's no point having a large transfer kitty if you can't spend money on wages!

it is the board ! they want to remain fincially viable which is honorable and a good way to have the club being around in the long run. but we need to get our wage ceiling up higher to attract the players ,but wenger usually finds the gems

Would you rather we stay financially viable, or cripple ourselves financially which is what would happen if we decided to pay these exorbitant wages. The reality is we can't match Chelsea, United and City when it comes to wages, but we have to increase the wages, Wenger knows he needs to and wants to, but the board don't want to and this is our biggest problem. Edited by sydneycroatia58: 27/8/2011 08:51:07 PM I don't believe that we would cripple ourselves fianancially with this spending, we're already one of the most fianancially stable clubs in england, and with the extra 35 million pounds made from fabregas's transfer i think the board could have spared the money for nasri's wages. Similarly with the added 50 million (or whatever) to the already stable fianances i dont see why they wouldnt pretty much have free reign in spending.

 So Park Chu Young was set to join Lille but is apparently now on his way to England to us according to the Lille president. No idea how much truth in that, could be off to Sp*rs or Fulham. But if we do sign him will be for around 3-5m.

One interesting thing with these Park rumours is that if they're true and we've got him from under Lille's noses we can kiss goodbye to any chance of signing Hazard

Yeah BBC reporting that he's set for a medical with us. Fee most likely already agreed considering Arsene has reportedly had contact with the player already.

No chance of that mate, Lille won't sell him to us now. I find it very disappointing that we have so much money and buy Park Chu Young over Edin Hazard... It's like settling for a suasage sizzle instead of a steak! That said, I'm prepared to give him a chance and I hope he is a good buy. Koreans are well known for their workrate and Park Chu Young is the captain of the South Korean national side so maybe he's a leader too.

TBF I don't think it's a case of choosing Park over Hazard, more a case of Lille not wanting to sell so we have to look elsewhere, and at 3m he is a bargain worth taking.

But... why are you signing a striker when you've just lost two midfielders?

imnofreak wrote:But... why are you signing a striker when you've just lost two midfielders? Because Bendtner will be leaving, Chamakh will be off to the ACN in January, Vela is out on loan and Robin, well Robin is Robin  Some people are acting as if this is the last movement we'll make. We're still in the market for a defender and a midfielder. The good think about Young is that he can also play wide on the left and behind the main striker. The ideal situation would be to sign 3 players before the window closes, a defender, a striker and a midfielder. We can most likely cross the striker off that list which leaves us just 2 left.
