Dunno. Sig wasn't really ever our number 1 target I don't think, obviously he was a cog in the machine but it's not a disaster he isn't coming.
Rodgers was interviewed yesterday and he said he just wants 3-4 top quality players, as opposed to squad players. Still linked with Gaston Ramirez and Adam Johnson IIRC

Yeh, I would say Johnson would be more important. Doubt he will want to leave City though.

skysports is reporting Rodgers as saying he's not going to raid the transfer market this summer and there will be maybe 1 arrival.

I'm not really worried about what we do in the market simply because i think whether we sign 1 or 6 players it would have been Rodgers decision to do so. It really seems to me that he is here on his terms and that he has seen enough to realize he can take the club forward with whatever the club has offered him.
Do i think he is currently content with what he has got? God no, i fully expect at least 3/4 players to come in who he believes will positively impact on the way the club plays this tika taka football.
The scary thing is we could actually go at perform well and improve, but still come sixth, the big four is truly dead.

The biggest problem I have with this is that we were found wanting SO often last season that clear changes need to be made in the attacking third and the transfer window has been open for 5 weeks and all we've seen is departures from the club.

The thing is he doesn't know the squad to well, and he has only really been in the job for 3 weeks so he doesn't have the luxury of Ferguson who can effectively make his signings before the season starts. I'm not even the biggest fan of getting these deals done early as you often pay more than the player is worth which than limits the ability you have to sign a player who becomes available, or even a player who isn't signed come the back end of August. In saying all of that we play our first pre-season game over in the USA in a couple of weeks and giving new players a pre-season with the club IS something that i feel is quite important (especially when the players have to play a system like BR's) and if we haven't signed anyone before than i will be well worried.

I'm not worried by the lack of movement. We only need 2-3 players really. The squad is good enough now, we just need a few bits of magic into the XI

8-[ waiting waiting..... Don't blame him jumping out of the gates - being up close and personal looking in the players eyes is what he needs to asses his charges.

That's all well and good, but it hasn't been a complete overhaul of the board and backroom staff. Transfers still have to be made. We have clear problems that need to be remedied and the backroom staff should be pointing Rodgers towards potential targets. Instead while Arsenal are signing Giroud and Podolski, United are signing Kagawa and Powell, Chelsea have signed Hazard and Marin...
And Liverpool have...sold Kuyt.

You are not wrong but as long as the right players come in before September we will all be happy.
These are the transfers BR has made in the summer with previous clubs (he also made quite a few loan and free signings after the window but i think we can assume that won't happen here)-
Reading
17 July Bertrand 8 August Mills 27 August McAnuff 27 August Rasiak
Swansea 10/11
23 June Donnelly 1 July Taylor August 9 Sinclair
Swansea 11/12
7 June Graham 8 July Moreira 27 July Lita 4 August Routledge 10 August Vorm 30 August Tremmel 31 August Bessone 31 August Situ
June - 2 July - 4 August - 9

SO he likes to do his business in August - but he hasn't previously had the problem of cup-tied players to contend with.

Looking at names like Suarez, Gerrard, Carroll, Reina, Lucas, Agger, Johnson, Enrique, Skrtel etc, we really do have so many world class players. So I'm not worried about the lack of movement in the transfer market.

Only 2-3 of those are world class so lets not get ahead of ourselves
But I agree that we only need a few top quality players and that's it. The squad is good enough, we just need to sprinkle some magic onto the XI.

Suarez is probably world class but Gerrard isn't these days.

Bellamy staying at Liverpool wrote:Bellamy's future at Liverpool has been the subject of speculation with former club Cardiff expressing an interest in re-signing the Welshman. However, Rodgers has no plans to offload Bellamy after holding talks with the 32-year-old earlier this week "I had a really positive chat with Craig on Monday," Rodgers said. "It was good to meet him and get his side of the Liverpool story. He's a big supporter of this club - he loves the club. "He's a good guy. He has a real passion for Liverpool Football Club and that's the type of people I want here. "I like his intensity, his work-rate and his passion so I would love him to be here. "He's a player. It would take a really special and unique opportunity for Craig to walk out of Liverpool and for us to go our separate ways. "If anything changes on that from a personal perspective then him and I will talk about that." http://www1.skysports.com/football/news/12691/7880535/Rodgers-rules-out-Bellamy-exit Liking the sound of Rodgers, has his head in the right space for Liverpool.

He does, I'm very happy with everything he's said and done so far.
Can't wait for some signings to come in/pre season to start!

Well it sounds like Aquilani is going to stay. That's a new signing essentially, I think he'll do well in this system. Very happy with him staying. First/second Reina/Doni Johnson/Kelly - Skrtel/Carra - Dagger/Coates - Enrique/Robinson Lucas/Spearing Gerrard/Shelvey - Hendo/Aqua Downing/Bellamy - Suarez/Maxi Carroll/nobody Looking at that, I want improved cover for LB, DM and ST, as well as new first team option for AM/Wing position. Maybe a new CM.

We need a new left winger, a new striker and a new holding midfield option. That's the shopping list.

Watching Rodgers' press conference atm:
'Truth is we have only made 3-4 enquiries, and yes we certainly plan to wrap up one this week, possibly two.'
Sounds good!

If we don't sign at least one 'big name' player this summer I'll be incredibly disappointed.

Gotta say, I'm less than impressed to see Suarez in the Uruguay Olympic squad.

He also said we don't have a wheelbarrow full of money and the numbers being thrown around are silly. So I think we'll make one 'big' signing of about 15m, and then a few sub 10 million ones. Just a guess.
Interesting answer about Carroll too.... asked if he was in his plans and just said that Andy is a quality player but he has to assess everyone as a group and stuff or something... hardly convincing. Could be nothing though.
Also said that he's been very impressed with the youth players and that if you've got the right attributes, physically and mentally, then you will be picked, no matter the age. I think Sterling and/or Suso will be getting a run in the Europa quals.

I think Sterling and/or Suso will be getting a run in the Europa quals. We need to make at least one signing of a 'big' name, which is going to mean parting with 20m+. It's becoming increasingly hard to 'bargain hunt' in football and something's got to give. Re: Carroll, if he puts on about 5kg of muscle in the offseason then he'll actually be useful again IMO. But if that doesn't happen he can keep sitting on the bench. How Suso hasn't been given a chance in the team yet I'll never know, but he should definitely be featuring in at least a dozen games at some point through the season. Quote:I'm not too fussed, providing he doesn't get injured. It's essentially pre season, but with a few competitive games thrown in. I'm not worried. Well yeah, there's the obvious injury concerns, not to mention that Uruguay should be one of the favourites and should at least make the semi's. Then there's the travel...Uruguay play in Manchester, then 3 days later in London, then 3 days later in Cardiff, then assuming that they top the group (as they should) they're playing again in Cardiff before having to return to Manchester 3 days later if they win. Then they're either back to Cardiff 3 days later or back in London 4 days later.

I'd have thought that 'world class' meant that they were performing at their peak at the highest levels of the game on all fronts. To suggest that you need to make an arbitrary list of the top 30 players to be considered 'world class' is a little absurd. But then, what would you know? There hasn't been a 'world class' player at Blackburn since Shearer arrived 20 years ago.

Annnnnnd getting back on track.
Strong words circulating about Granero. Certainly wouldn't mind that.
Either way, Rodgers sounded pretty confident about having a signing wrapped up by the end of this week so I'm hoping to wake up to good news in a few days!
