Times change. Probably not going to take note of this because I'm a United fan but Liverpool are not the club they were. There are so many more attractive options for players than going to Liverpool.

This is all down to the club's philosophy. The club SHOULD have been signing one big name player and one squad player for 40m pound instead of spending that 40m pound signing 5 'cheap' players.

Trepidation in the transfer market from the likes of Benitez has ended up costing the club reputation and seen them fall behind the pack.

LFC first to support 'Pride' event

Liverpool FC is taking a stand against homophobia by becoming the first Premier League club to be officially represented at a UK 'Pride' event.

The club will provide a banner for Liverpool Pride in August, while representatives from LFC Ladies and staff will march alongside LFC LGBT (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender).

The Reds will also have a stall at the festival's Pier Head site and will provide signed merchandise for fundraising auctions.

Managing director Ian Ayre said: "Here at LFC, we continue to demonstrate our commitment to ensuring that equality and principles of inclusion are embedded into all areas of Liverpool Football Club and for many years we have taken positive steps to promote our stance against homophobia both on and off the pitch.

"I am delighted to confirm that some club employees and members from the Liverpool Ladies squad will be participating in the event.

"The event is certainly a positive talking point around Liverpool and it's an excellent platform to attract local communities and people from across the country to experience the diverse culture of our fantastic city."

LFC has already worked with Liverpool Pride on the Football v Homophobia tournament, which was hosted at the club's Academy for the first time earlier this year.

The club also supports the Justin Campaign, a national initiative aiming to challenge LGBT misconceptions.

Zoran Blackie, chair of Liverpool Pride, said: "Liverpool Football Club have been going through huge changes and one of them is to work closely with all their supporters.

"Now by standing alongside us for the march, LFC are showing the LGBT community in the city that 'we'll never walk alone'."

Liverpool Pride 2012 will take place at the city's iconic Pier Head and throughout the Stanley Street Quarter on Saturday, August 4.

The festival's 'Nautical but Nice' theme coincides with the 100-year anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic and also celebrates the city's rich maritime history. For more details visit liverpoolpride.co.uk.

I can't help but feel that it's a bit of a token offer after the Suarez farce last season to restore a bit of pride in the club's PR.

Well thats admiral TBH and nothing wrong with protecting your brand - some clubs wouldn't bother.

Of course. But they were dealt a blow. They can't just do what they normally do to improve, they need to do extra considering last season.

Seems Roma have confirmed we have made a bid. I think we should be able to get him for 15m euro, about 12m pounds. I'd be happy with that.

Borini considering Reds move
Roma striker targeted by Liverpool boss Rodgers

Roma striker Fabio Borini is 'seriously considering' the opportunity to join Liverpool this summer, according to his agent.
The Serie A club's sporting director Walter Sabatini confirmed earlier on Tuesday that the Anfield outfit had expressed an interest in signing the 21-year-old.
Reds boss Brendan Rodgers knows Borini well, having worked with him during their time together at Chelsea and again during a loan spell with Swansea.
Borini netted nine goals in 24 appearances in the league for Roma last season and earned a place in Italy's Euro 2012 squad, although he did not feature during their run to the final.

Agent Marco De Marchi plans to hold further discussions with his client in the coming days as they evaluate the possibility of a switch to the Premier League.
De Marchi told Radio Radio: "Roma has informed us of Liverpool's interest in the boy. Now it's up to Fabio to have his say."
And he added on IlSussidiario.net: "We were alerted by Roma of the existence of this deal. I cannot honestly tell you the details but, as Sabatini has already said, we're now seriously considering it.
"Would the player want to go to Liverpool? Honestly, I don't want to commit myself as there will be more news in the coming days. Wait for that."

So does this mean that Roma have accepted a fee and its just down to personal terms with Borini? Or is this just pre-engagement?

I'm hearing Liverpool offered 11m potentially rising to 14.

I don't think they've accepted a fee... I think it's moreso Roma wondering whether they should bother negotiating with us or if he has no interest to go.

But by all sounds of it, Roma want to sign Destro and they will use the funds to bring him in if they sell Borini. And like I said, 12m pound should do it. I'd be happy with that, he scores goals but also played on the right a fair bit for Roma last season so can be an option for those inside forward spots too.

"he scores goals" isn't exactly a term you should be throwing about for a lad who's scored 9 goals in 24 games.

That's a good record from the right wing. I know Reserve league can be deceiving, but he scored for fun in his time there at Chelsea.

17 from 21 isn't a bad record. He scored 6 from 12 in the Championship. His career average is a goal every 157 minutes. But most of that is at second grade level.

I'd be very happy if we signed him, in any case.

Starting to doubt these Ramirez links too.

It seems more and more like Borini is the one that Rodgers meant when he said 'hopefully two' signings this week. So who is the more certain first signing he was talking about? Perhaps Dempsey.

I thought it was only 1 before the end of the week? with another one in the woodwork?

Looks like it'll be Borini

When was the last time a Serie A player moved to England and really did well?

Players from the Serie A.

Dossena and Aquilani both flopped for us. Balotelli's hardly set the world alight either.

Tbf to Balotelli he did just come off a season where he got 13 goals in 23 games, still early days but definitely showing some promise.

As for the best coming out of Italy, surely it has to be Henry?

Then you've got Bergkamp and Zola who came to England within 18 months of each other.

Henry left the Serie A 13 years ago.
It's been 18 years since Bergkamp left Inter and 17 years since Zola joined Chelsea.

So essentially no player has successfully moved from the Serie A to EPL in the last decade.
