Well, that was an absolutely superb game. Not just the three points, but the manner in which we accrued them. There are only a few players who were letdowns tonight, as I'll explain below, but on the whole that was superb. A nervy last 15mins, but by far and away the best game I've seen in a long time. Everybody wanted it. We PUSHED forward and ATTACKED like we always should. Torres wasn't isolated. We used WIDTH. Poulsen didn't play. It was magnificent. I'm so happy. I love this club so much and these 3 points are fantastic. The best thing about us playing poorly is that I don't have to put up with people calling me a bandwagoner or glory hunter. I'm here for the good and the bad, and that will never change.

NOW on to the match ratings;

Pepe Reina - 7.5 Came out and dealt with most crosses superbly well. Maybe 1 or 2 he looked a bit shaky on. Great game all around.

Jamie Carragher - 7.6. A transformed player. Marauded up and down that right wing like he was still a teenager. Put some fantastic crosses in, dictated the defence, and talked all match. Great game from JC. The OG wasn't his fault, nothing he could do.

Sotirios Krygiakos - 9. MOTM. An absolute beast in the air. Nothing got past him at the back, and he was a menace up front. Roy is gonna have a headache to deal with when Agger and Johnson come back. With Soto and Skrtel in this form I want to see them stick together. Leave Johnson out, he's playing crap anyway. Anyhow, Soto was magnificent and doesn't get anywhere near enough credit from the fans.

Martin Skrtel - 7.5. Solid once again, as he has been all season. Made some superb tackles and clearances. One of the better players this season.

Paul Konchesky - 5.5. Very very average. The one person who was a big let down. Couldn't even do the simple things right. Shame. Got forward well on occasion which saves him from an even worse rating.

Raul Meireles - 8.. Great game. Dynamic, got forward to support Torres and Gerrard, but got stuck in in the middle of the park too and made some great passes. Kept things ticking, with...

Lucas Leiva - 8.2. Just fantastic. I want to see his stats from this one. Precise passing, forwards AND backwards, moving around a lot more than he used to, showed good vision, played some Xabi-esque passes (anyone see that 40 yard crossfield ball to Carra?!), and just in general was fantastic. Him and Meireles were great.

Maxi Rodriguez - 8.5 Best game I've seen him play. From the first whistle he showed his intelligence, linked up with Torres and Gerrard superbly well. Exactly what Torres needed, somebody to play off of. Great game.

Joe Cole - 7.5 Swung some great crosses into the box, including the one for the goal. Got caught on the ball a few times, but wasn't helped by Konchesky. Best performance since the one v Steaua, and some very promising signs.

Steven Gerrard - 8.8. Just under Soto. Showed such immense passion, desire, ENERGY both on and off the ball. That play early on where he made that superb slide tackle, got fouled once, kept going, fouled again, kept going, just summed it up. You could see it in his eyes. Played some absolutely superb balls and crosses all throughout the game, just an absolute mountain. Our Captain Fantastic. Brilliant.

Fernando Torres - 7.9. A definite improvement from the last few games, and took his goal well. Still looks slightly rusty when taking players on, but much much better. He's back, and he'll grab one against Bolton methinks!

Gotta love the facepalm.

Nice match summary, imnofreak - but I don't know if I can agree completely with your rating of Konchesky.

For me, he was important in providing speedy coverage for Soto and Skrtel when the Rovers tried to counter. His pushes forward were completely overshadowed by Carra's effectiveness and his errant passing, but I still think he was good value overall.

And let's not forget - if Carra hadn't been standing where he was, we would've seen the second goal line clearance by Konchesky in as many games. Shows speed and determination.

Yeah, I don't have any issues with him for the OG. I was just very unimpressed with his general play bringing it out from the back. When in advanced positions he crossed well, but getting down the flank with the ball he struggled and broke up our rhythm a few times.

Ok, maybe 5.5 is a bit harsh :P

Well Liverpool finished 7th that season, so if you can go on and replicate that it'll be a good result.

I know I'm a little late to the party here but how good was last night/this mornings performance? Granted it was against Blackburn but it was really heartening the way we attacked with purpose. You could see after our first goal the confidence just ooze back into the team. We created plenty of chances and every player worked their ass off. And how good was the YNWA at the start of the match?

Imno-totally agree abot Maxi. I've been pretty critical of him but he was absolutely fantastic! His creativity and work rate were first class. I was impressed with Lucas as well. He controlled the play, made some good passes ( a few good forward ones as well) and really stepped p. Hopefully this will mean that he's a certain starter over Poulsen. Plus we've still got Kuyt to come back!

So stoked right now!

That's what impressed me the most. I just really hope they play the same way against Bolton and don't go back into their shells.

+1. Although the game was a good platform to start getting more results, the team have to make sure that they continue to play as well and creatively against Blackburn week to week.
