Well, disappointing to say the least.
I expected us to compete better than that.
Sure away especially against our foes we'd be having less ball but we didn't do enough with the ball and more so gave it away cheaply at times.
Can't deny the first goal against us, well taken but who was outside the box ?! no one.
A pen is a pen, not much you can do about it but Gomez will sure learn from that one.
We had some chances.
Benteke's goal was a cracker - so well taken putting all his force behind it, what a effort.
Ings had a chance but didn't connect well enough but well saved by degea.
Benteke's header over the bar.
Another effort saved on the line.
Firminho had a ball comes across in front just wasn't expecting it.
Ibe did well once on.
Were missing the Cout and Hendo and look forward seeing Sturridge get back.

The long bombing to Benteke for large periods of that game was annoying as fuck.

Can really see how they missed Gerrard's composure and killer through balls in midfield.

Pretty poor game from us. At least we made a few chances in the second half but that first half was a true stalemate of the most boring variety...
I hate when teams play that way....Fuck strategic 0-0 draws! The EPL has a duty to serve up more entertaining football than that!

Most of all we missed his sense of urgency, and his sense that it is completely unacceptable for a Liverpool side to put in such a p1ss poor showing at old Trafford... The players need to learn to lead themselves with Gerrard gone...

We've got Bordeaux away on Thursday too.

Hendo has gone to the US for treatment....

Lallana should be back.

Crucial month ahead for our season and Rodgers' future.

yer, Pr1mo forgot about the EU game. True.

Hendo gone US for treatment whereas back home can't do enough seems strange.

Lallana, yes, another that needs to get consistent for us, on the park weekly, he's got the talent and we need his attacking capabilities.

Brendan Rodgers’ Liverpool lose again: What is the philosophy now?
Sky Sports’ Adam Bate FOX SPORTS September 15, 2015 6:00AM SHARE

WHEN one interviewer put it to Brendan Rodgers that this might be a “season of transition” for Liverpool, you could sense the frustration of supporters. The Reds boss is into his fourth season in charge. Nine of the starting line-up that lost at Old Trafford are his signings. Many more have been and gone. What has happened to the plan?

“Our notion in the game is always to dominate the ball,” said Rodgers last month. “I’ve been in football a long time and my emphasis has always been possession.” But the 3-1 defeat to Manchester United saw Liverpool’s possession drop below 50 per cent for the season. That number has decreased steadily over the course of his time as a Premier League manager.

His side allowed United to dominate the ball on Saturday. That would suggest Rodgers is moving away from the principles that have not only defined his coaching career but also helped get him the Liverpool job in the first place. Perhaps more significantly, there are signs that the man himself is concerned about the evolution of his own team.

“It’s something that, over the first five games, I need to look at,” Rodgers told Sky Sports. “Is it how we play? Because it’s too easy for us at times to play direct in to Christian Benteke, who I thought was excellent. You have to want the ball, you have to get on the football to create opportunities.”

Three goals in five games tells its own tale, but it’s merely a continuation of the lack of attacking cohesion that has been a problem for Liverpool ever since Luis Suarez’s departure. The Premier League goal tally slumped from 101 goals in 2013-14 to just 52 last season. Mario Balotelli has gone but the issues remain.

But the personnel is only part of the problem. Rodgers’ selections confuse. A midfield trio of Emre Can, Lucas and James Milner appeared overly cautious against West Ham. Philippe Coutinho was forced to play wide, just as Danny Ings was asked to do at Old Trafford. For a coach who prides himself on tactical flexibility, Rodgers now seems wedded to 4-3-3.

“I don’t understand this obsession with playing 4-3-3,” Jamie Carragher told Sky Sports. “Brendan Rodgers came to the club wanting to play 4-3-3 and it didn’t work. The great season they had was with two strikers and how they got them into the team is down to the manager. They’ve got a lot of strikers, no wide players, and he continues to play 4-3-3.

“I don’t understand what the point was in playing Danny Ings in that wide position. He didn’t give the support to Benteke. You think about how many strikers Liverpool have on the books and they have no wide players. They’ve only got Jordon Ibe. Firmino is not a wide player and Coutinho played there last week and he’s not a wide player.”

It’s not only in attack that this is a problem. Joe Gomez has exceeded expectations but is not a natural left-back. Graeme Souness’s “square pegs in round holes” assessment might even stretch to Simon Mignolet as a sweeper-keeper. The Belgian looked as uncomfortable as ever with the ball at his feet at the weekend.

“This is ridiculous,” said Gary Neville on co-commentary as Liverpool invited pressure by passing the ball unconvincingly in their own defensive third. “It’s everything you want from an away team. The crowd had gone quiet but it lifts them. Madness from Mignolet.” But it’s become the norm. Only Lukasz Fabianski misplaced more passes in his own half last season.

“The only time we were frightened was by our own mistakes,” said Rodgers. But they continue to come. Any suggestion that Dejan Lovren has settled was undermined by his error against West Ham, while Martin Skrtel’s apology of a challenge on Anthony Martial was a reminder that Rodgers is short of defenders on whom he can rely.

Most frustrating for fans was surely the poverty of ambition on show against their old rivals. Liverpool’s total of 59 successful passes in the final third was their lowest since February and they didn’t register a shot on target until Ings’ mis-hit effort just shy of the hour mark. It was all a far cry from the swaggering 3-0 win at the same ground just 18 months ago.

There was a plan that day. For much of his reign, Rodgers has had one. But in the week that Jeremy Corbyn was named Labour leader, the need for a clear message is surely more apparent than ever. Liverpool fans need something — anything — to believe in. In short, even a questionable philosophy is preferable to the absence of one. Rodgers must now rediscover his.

Draw away to Bordeaux.

Have only seen highlights but from reports Sakho, Moreno and Gomez all had solid games.

Lallana scored a peach.

We probably should have played him on the left vs United rather than ings since that's where he played well in Germany. Coutinho and him to be centre and left on the attack.

I'm convinced that the quality is there.

Hendo is no chance mate. Flew to the US this week for treatment on a heel injury.

I'd slot Can in alongside him rather than Lucas and play Firmino as second striker. I'm a bit sick of the way we've been playing with the 4 2 3 1

Sorry to rain on the parade but do NOT bank on this being the diamond. Can, Skrtel and Sakho warming up together. Could be 3 at the back

If it's not Sturridge and Benteke CENTRALLY together with Coutinho in behind I will cry.

yep, FFS.
Benteke slight hammy concern hence Ings coming on after HT - and kudos nice goal in front of the Kop.
I haven't watched the game as yet so can't comment much else but Hendo was fronting up against the Canaries but picked up a knock at Melwood Friday “It was just unfortunate. He had a problem with his heel and felt fine, then came in and broke his fifth metatarsal !

Yeah Hendo is out for 2 months.

Very disappointing.

First of all though have to give big congrats to Moreno and Sakho - they have come in from the cold and were both absolutely excellent. Better start the next game.

We had patches of great play but just far too pedestrian. Strikers had to come deep to receive from CBs every time - just a huge chasm in the midfield, not enough presence, not enough tempo, desire, anything.

Thank god for Can being able to carry it out from the back and launch half of our fucking attacks. Milner was absolute dog shit.

Sturridge looked very sharp in the first half. Delighted for Ings his movement is fantastic.

Drop the fucking stupid cunting back 3. So annoyed.

He's got a few more games to turn things around but that's it. Sorry.

Result was disappointing but we created plenty of chances to win the game which is pleasing. Having said that when you're playing a promoted side at home you should be creating a boatload of chances....

Moreno was MOTM for us I thought. Agree, midfield is non-existent.

Think Rodgers will be gone by the end of October.

By the sound of it imno BR better not play Lovren for quite a while ! Sakho has to start up from now on.
People are not realizing how big a hole its to fill with SG gone, those long diagonal pin point balls turning possession/defense into attack, his dart balls on the ground through the middle and to date spot kicks and corners in the zone/s.
Milner is a worker - when he's on he covers lots of ground when not he doesn't have any other card to play.
I was just reading that BR saying re Sturridge slowly slowly re match fitness, the only way I've knon to gain match fitness is to play lol......not bench starts for another month.

Mmm, end of Oct eh, 4yrs now, all his cattle now. Pressure is on now no doubt about it.

Fixtures till end of October:

Villa (H)
Everton (A)
Spurs (A)
Soton (H)
Chelsea (A)

The way we've been playing we could still be on 8 points....

We also have League Cup this week and a couple Europa fixtures in there (all at home).
