Mignolet needs to be replaced. Sorry, he's excellent at times but it's an absolutely crucial position as Arsenal are showing. We have dropped many points because of it and it needs to be addressed.

Not sure he's that much better than Mignolet.

Maybe Ter Stegen from barca. Too good to be a number 2. As is Mat Ryan at Valencia...

I've heard mignolet put pen to paper on a 5 year contract extension which is pretty terrible news... I'd really expect the club to be able to see his impact in key games if the rest of us can see it.

Great game today. Firmino & Can great. Firmino can be better than coutinho I think. Seems to have better insicts on when to shoot and when to pass which is an aspect of coutinho that I've really seen no improvement lately...

Just hope we can bring this level of performance against everyone else.

I hadn't heard we signed Mignolet for 5 more years - if so #-o

Coutinho is over doing it I feel at times, I expect he feels its his responsibility more than others going forward - making it happen. Importantly he has been more consistent than Firmino though his first season with us.
He sure is instinctive when up front to shoot - has some nice touch's - just need him to perform near on this every game, then he's useful to us.
Yer, Can I do like him, someone had mentioned not long ago didn't rate him, I do, he's getting better, he's going to be a strong mid for us for a long time as long as we hang onto him.

I expect this game has us really primed for the next :p

:?

One of those games where you could legitimately say the better side lost. Waaaaay too much turning over of the ball in the final quarter, and some completely unrealistic attempts on goal, with Hendo trying way too hard to be the next Stevie G. With better control of the football in that final quarter and a tad more patience, could easily have scored 4.

For them? Only Martial and De Gea were a threat. The only thing worse than Judas the plastic Manc scoring was seeing The Belgian Steamer slip over in the goal mouth and leave it wide open for the greatest escape since Steve McQueen tore through the German countryside on a motorcycle. I was watching De Gea's cool hands and thinking "Fuck, what a difference a keeper of his quality would make to LFC"....

But I do take morbid pleasure knowing that LVG has just bought himself another 6 months in charge at Old Trafford, and Judas has also managed to lengthen his time taking up a fair chunk of the player budget. LFC are still only two wins behind that lot, and recent form overall tells the full story...

I missed the game for I'm on leave but from what I've read and your post CapH sounds similar.
DGea has been their saving grace last season and to date - as you mentioned having a top shelf GK saves your bacon more times than not and their position to now is typically thanks to him.
Sad to hear of our loss being the better team but the result has most likely given LVG more time is a good as mentioned, they'll need good luck and Degea even more.

Hopefully it's a plan to bring in another keeper, elevate said new keeper to the 1st team and fuck off the Belgian Steamer on a permanent loan (a la Andy Carroll). It would be completely out of character for Klopp to make such a stupid decision...

Well it baffles us supporters - Klopps spin on the re signing.

Jürgen Klopp has expressed delight after Liverpool secured the services of Simon Mignolet for the foreseeable future by tying the goalkeeper down to a new long-term contract.

The 27-year-old, who joined the Reds from fellow Barclays Premier League outfit Sunderland in the summer of 2013, put pen to paper on a new deal with the club on Monday.

Klopp says offering fresh terms to the Belgian required little consideration given what he has seen of him since taking charge at Anfield in October.

And he is sure that Mignolet can provide solidity between the sticks for years to come thanks to his fastidious approach to personal development.

The manager told reporters: "There have been a lot of games since I’ve been here and Simon, as is normal for a goalkeeper, was involved in one or the other goals we’ve conceded.

"We’ve thought about it all and in the end it is the package [and] Simon Mignolet is for us perfect because he is a smart guy, young enough to develop in the things he has to develop and he gives us all, the whole team, a good feeling when he is in the starting line-up, so that is really important.

"We thought about in and in the end the result was that we are sure we want to work together with him for the next years, that’s why we offered him a new contract.

"He took it and now he is Liverpool FC player for the next few years. Hopefully I can think about the next contract too with him, then we would have had success.

"So that’s all - I am really satisfied with this position and now we can go on."

I trust Jurgen.

He's not our biggest problem (although I feel he is a problem) and Jurgen wants to invest the money into other positions first that's fine by me.

Increases his value in any case on the off chance someone wants him.

He may not be the biggest problem, I agree, but he can be the diff between winning that important game and not though.

Finally put away Exeter - Klopp remained with our youth which I'm glad for them, mixed with Benteke,Mignolet,Allen,Ibe and Enrique !
3nil - Allen early goal assist via Smith !
Cheers for Flanno making his return !
Next Cup opponent are the Hammers.

Your telling us nothing new BETHFC.
You could say been an issue for yonks considering we haven't won a title for so long but last 3seasons I don't know why we haven't bolstered our CB's better than Lovren, mind you he's looking far better than last season but lacks guile, Sakho just isn't to the std we need at CB at all imo, Skrtl lacks the finesse but has the guile/brute/passion you like to have back there, he needs a good partner.
Gomez will cover LB with Flanno/Moreno next season. Clyne is fyne :)
So, Mignolet is left open at times, mind you he has not hung onto some balls that should have.
Were crap at set pieces, were not challenging int he air well enough nor marking up, again pressure on him to take the cross ball, hence the errors.
Toure/Enrique sqauddies, have some Youth coming through though.

Beaten at the near post by Ramsey's shot and was very slow to react to Giroud's touch for his first goal. The 2nd one you could probably put less blame on him, but he definitely should have done better with the first one. Those were just the ones he was punished for. He may not have a great defence infront of him, but part of that may be because he doesn't exactly inspire confidence.

yer I was blown by the Ramsey one, sure it came at pace but he had the near post covered, he went down to cover with his left after the ball past :o mind you Sakho was out of position after knocking heads with giroud and was recovering, Ramsey had a hwy opening to run into.
Girouds touch was going right across the goal mouth but mignolets reaction wasn't quick enough hit the inside of his left thigh into goal.
Every keeper have their good and bad days - we have defensive stuff ups coupled by keeper errors.
We just got to score more at this time  ala SS days.

Dat Moreno, again he has me wondering wtf, out positioned, of all things a sitter for Naismith to play him.
Give Smith another run JK.
How was Klopp, near on 1st half amazingly he stayed seated majority of it, this must have been hard for him.
2nd completely different - up in the usual tech area, going off here and there, punching down when we scored, love it he's great to watch.
Must wonder what to do with our backline, so inconsistent, we leak a late one last game then 4 this one :x
Milner worked hard and done well this game, well put away as might I add.
Hendo was not his usual self most of the game I thought but definitely woke us up with his well taken strike.
Great move getting Lallana on mid 2nd, made a big difference.
I still say Can is a beast.
Our 3rd goal was great play, we can do it so well at times.
When Bassong scored typically from us not clearing the ball near our box thought we were fooked, Klopp was sussing out the official of the 5min added time, think he withdrew at the 4min lol, well taken Lallana.
9 goal thriller.

Astonishing. Couldn't believe what I was watching.

Some shocking errors but from lovely football too.

I just keep thinking ahead to a few weeks from now when (hopefully) we have Sturridge, Coutinho, Origi and Teixeira all available :P

3 points is what matters but fuck me we made it hard.

Can/Hendo/Milner/Lucas should never all play together. Firmino is great but needs to be playing off of an out and out striker. Can isn't in great form, Sakho should be dropped when Skrtel/Lovren back. I'd give Smith a run at LB as well .

OH yer, can't wait for our first choice recruits to be back thats for sure !!
Sakho is killing me just as Moreno tbh.
His technique amazes me how he has got this far, he puts in no doubt about it but his style is crazy, like there is a 2 -3second delay before he strikes the ball.
Can't wait for Skrtl Lovren.
Can mightn't be in great form but his work rate is sound.
I agree, why doesn't Klopp run with Benteke or Origi when back and Firmino off either.
Studge will be a blessing, his skill alone would have ripped Norwich backline.
We don't have anyone running through from midfield enough.

Far out talk about doing it tuff - yes we need more football LOL.....
Cap One Cup has gone the full 90 + extra time..
Stoke got the 1 goal in normal time, extra time no score added by either.
Into pens it went !
Mignolet saved 2 pens ! denied Crouch.

Absolute dogshite performance but we made it. Props to the lads for the shootout alone, they all did well (Can aside)

Midfield seemed nonexistent at times. Can, Milner, Henderson are all runners and nobody stays central so we lose presence. Allen is good because he holds the middle and keeps possession, Lucas can't do that on his own when he's covering the FBs (especially Moreno)

Anyway, Wembley!

Thanks imno, working today so couldn't watch it - sounds dire and at home, I expected Stoke to give it their all, stats are all over the place.
One thing is for sure - with Klopp we keep digging in against the odds, just as the previous canaries game.
I understand you pov regards to our mids, Klopp needs to address this more.
Rapted for Flanno starting up, thats a defensive bonus once he gains match fitness.

I've had a love hate relationship with Joe Allen, only because I'd love to see him being a regular start up player for us but he just can't do it week in week out as needed but over his time with us he's shown some great ticker, ball/control movement he's capable of as mentioned by imno.
Hats off to him regards to a LFC interview made regards to the pen winner but his comments in the end are worth putting up :
The 25-year-old also gave special mention to Jon Flanagan, who was handed his first start for the club in 626 days as a result of an injury to Nathaniel Clyne and acquitted himself admirably across the 105 minutes he featured in.

Allen said: “I'd like to give a little mention for Flanno.

“To start tonight in a semi-final after so long out and keep going as long he did, that's incredible.

“The lads can't quite believe it but that sums Flanno up, that's the way he is. It's incredible how deep he can dig.”

Seriously a great first up run by Flanno.
