Hopefully it's an abysmal failure... which is what it's looking like.

I dislike both teams. swans because of the Eagles rivalry with them and the Saints because Steven Milne plays for them.

I've never understood why they need to segregate AFL cheer squads

Interesting if they win the premiership this year, that is going to be a little awkward if this is proved to be true.

If you tilt your head in just the right angle and turn an ear towards Collingwood fans, you can hear crickets.

22k free tickets sponsored by the AFL and NZ government. Nope, tickets weren't free. It was interesting watching it, pleased that the Swans won since I was cheering for them, and I'd definitely go back to another game here.

There would have been plenty of tickets given away and those sold would have been below typical market value.

I don't think there were all that many tickets that got given away tbh, I certainly didn't see anywhere where you could've won tickets, and it's not like we have junior clubs to hand them out to. As for the pricing, I paid $16 for a student ticket, I don't know how that compares to normal prices.

Boganball's crowds are trending down according to this Rugby League blog: http://forums.rugbyleagueplanet.com/topic/4858357/1/ AFL crowds falling fast Gold Coast Suns. 2012 12, 775 2011 19, 169 GWS. 2012 13, 706 Brisbane Lions. 2012 20,722 2011 20,462 2010 29,908 2009 29,172 2008 28,128 2007 28,848 2006 28,630 2005 33,267 2004 33,619 Sydney Swans. 2012 23,884 2011 26,615 2010 30,675 2009 30,506 2008 32,828 2007 35,632 While I was looking up the AFL crowds in non-established heartlands, I was pretty shocked at how graphically their attendance has dropped. I expected the AFL to be doing what the NRL is doing - growing attendance with the population - but didn't expect to see their crowds dropping, especially not this substantially. In checking this out, it isn't just their non-heartland teams. Hawthorn 2012 31,760 2011 36,363 2010 37,876 2009 39,565 2008 39,976 Western Bulldogs 2012 23,732 2011 26,294 2010 30,359 2009 32,870 2008 30,275 Essendon 2012 45,891 2011 49,267 2010 44,184 2009 50,709 2008 46,336 2007 52,294 Adelaide 2012 36,268 2011 35,020 2010 35,764 2009 38,801 2008 40,678 2007 41,992 North Melbourne 2012 22,163 2011 28,074 2010 27,436 2009 27,024 2008 30,401 2007 33,458 Fremantle 2012 33,340 2011 34,394 2010 36,572 2009 33,144 2008 35,877 2007 37,474 While I'm sure teams fluctuate depending on how successful the team is playing, and admittedly I have no idea how they're all doing over the years, I know Sydney is up the top of the table and look at their attendance. The same for Hawthorn, and Adelaide. Not sure about anyone else. Is this something unusual?

Yesterday's MCG attendance of 93,373 is the 3rd highest home and away crowd in VFL/AFL history.

Melbourne share for Anzac Day was down about 90k on FTA which would indicate to me that most are now watching on Fox, Fox was up from 306k to 386k for this match. They are just shifting fans from FTA to Fox a trend that started last year with the new broadcast deal. Expansion states are just going no where TV ratings wise, take ANZAC day ratings: 2012 Non Heartland Ratings: Syd 46k Bri 59k 2013 Non Heartland Ratings: Syd 46k Bri 47k 16 shows in the top 20 Digital TV station shows rated higher in Sydney than the Anzac Day clash on Digital TV. Only 52k watched the historic Anzac Day game with Sydney the reigning premiers playing on digital TV in Sydney apparently. Only 14 of the top 20 digital shows rated higher than this game on digital TV.
