Um Donachie and devere say otherwise.

Average!

Oh come on  they are up there are two of the best defenders in the league.

Now you're pulling my leg. Donachie is young and still learning but far from the best. Can't hold a first x1 spot even with the Roar. Devere makes some marauding runs which are great to watch and is tough, but is not enough to make him the best and needs to improve from last season. He is our best defender (I think) but that's saying little givrn what we have. Polenz apart from his first game was a let dowm. The others many here have already spoken about.

If you don't rate the likes of devere, Donachie, polenz, north, then I don't know what you expect from an a league defender.

I'd like to know who you rate higher then these blokes in the league

You can get away with one or two of these in the back line with one or two of the best but collectively they are very average to say the least. You're forgetting that Bowles, Brown and Stef are also in that set up. These are the same players we had last season.

I think it is still uncertain on whether Brown and Bowles have what it takes to nail down spots, Bowles especially has me worried. Hopefully the new guys are alright though

Bowles may have found a place in central defence which is his preferred position anyway; Brown is great going forward and lousy on positioning in defence but that is coachable.

I feel like i would rather have taken a punt on jackson than keep Bowles around. He just wont amount to anything.

Bowles is at best a third or fourth choice CB - does some good things, but not physically imposing enough.

We are still considerably weaker in both defence and attack than we were 2 and 3 years ago. As far as the midfield is concerned, it's wait and see.

If Aloisi gets this squad to top 4 it would be a more than acceptable effort.

So how do line up when everyone is fit?
Broich-JMac-Ricky
Mckay-Corona-Javier
Stef-Don-Dev-Polenz
Theo
Is my pick, slightly worried about the lack of a creator in midfield though

We never had one. Corona is a deep lying creator. No idea about Javier, then you can get clut off the bench.
Also Ricky is the super sub, he is wasted on fresh defense with his small size. Can do more damage coming on later with a tired defense.

At first I thought Borello instead of Ricky would always get the nod however with the introduction of Javier with Corona I think they would compliment Ricky far more and visa versa. If Javier proves good then this forward is the go with Borello as a sub and used when we require a counter attacking game. On the other hand Aloisi might like what he saw last night with constant speed on both flanks and may use Ricky as a sub instead. Nice head-ache to have. The defence overall is still ordinary and is where Aloisi needs to strengthen.

Three positives:

1. Jamie Maclaren and to less extent Corona. But both excellent recruitments finally.
2. An added dimension to our game with effective counter attacking.
3. Reasonably good team cohesion and tactics by Aloisi.

Three negatives:

1. Brown in particular. Doesn't know what to do with the ball half the time which sacrifices the team.
2. Defence overall, with replacements Steff and Donks to come there are no champions amongst that lot to change much.
3. Off field stresses. Can't help feel they are still stopping the team from playing to its full potential.

Thought needs a mention that Bowles played an alright game last night aside from his excellent header.

Terrible when previously played at RB but since going central he has played very well. He's the only defender that can most of the time weight a ball beautifully in front of his own defender. His passing reminds me a bit of Spiranovic.

Bowles did well at CB last season as well - interestingly he now says it's his preferred position.

I got mine yesterday. Bit of a surprise as I was telling everyone we were in 340 only to get tickets for 339 instead ... must be old age kicking in.

The lite memberships go on sale next week (only 3 months later than other clubs) so hopefully that will boost the membership numbers by a few thousand over the next few weeks

Its a bit confusing as there are aisles and then there is the block. If i remember i am in 340 by my aisle is 301. I always remember that i am in 301 and every year i get membership they use the block instead of the aisle to book, but your ticket/membership uses aisle. in short you are not going crazy.

Yes, he was also good last season in that role. He needs a bit of beefing up though. Can have a great future as a professional player if the planets line up for him IMO.

I'd agree. And while most commentators have focussed on Wanderers defensive lapses for his goal he actually ran a great line and got on the end of a great corner cross from Corona - let's hope that continues this season

So i just had a look on Ticketek and it seems they have not opened up all the seats.

http://premier.ticketek.com.au/events/BGRR0215/venues/SUN/performances/EGRR0000015A/tickets

Unless i am to believe that all those seats have been sold and we are looking a big attendance? Might just have to ring up or just get them at the gates.
