so great, lets go from a guarenteed sell out parra staduim with a crazy atmosphere, to a dead ANZ.
and why should the WS team loose its advantage in the derby so it can be played at ANZ?

As far as finals are concerned, if the FFA won't allow Bluey to hold one, there's no way Parra will

this is can understand.
but what i cant would be taking the derby to ANZ and loosing the home advantage as well as loosing an experience at parra staduim. if its a sell out for the derby then great, it will make more people buy a membership to be guarenteed a ticket.

Parra Stadium ticks most boxes for me, forget Homebush unless you get 70K in there.

Base at Parra and play a few smaller games and/or NYL games at Marconi, Edensor, Penrith and Campbelltown.

I want this done right, and can't wait for the derbies.

i reckon the crowd was pretty good considering how new the game is here in western sydney. I'm a definite supporter of gws but i still reckon half of the people in sydney still dont know what it stands for.

also the partnership gws has with the daily telegraph has ensured the game received a lot of publicity here. theyve got either the front page or the back page all week. this is the type of advertisement we need when we have our a-league sydney derby.

The crowd was about the same as the Swans average crowd at ANZ Stadium over the last 4 years. The large percentage of them in my view would have been Swans fans so the test for GWS will be how many turn up for their home games against interstate sides.

The new Parramatta Stadium Master Plan sees the stadium capacity increase to about 31,000 at a cost of $98m. They had a $6m allocation for a Southern Stand but that has been overtaken by the new plan. The money will be re-allocated when Stage 1 at $34m gets the green light. Could be a great little stadium when it is finished.

In 2010 the stadium hosted 18 events and turned a profit of about $300k out of $3.5m revenue. Attendance averaged 9,800 per event. Another 13 A-league games with similar type crowd would help build the case for the development to happen.

Details of the 5 stages are given here:-

I'm not sure it needs 31,000. I dunno.. then again, if Seattle can average 38,000 or something ridiculous like that, there's no reason a WS team couldn't if it's run properly.

Stage 1 takes it up to 24,500 seats by increasing the seating at the ends plus gives a lot of extra corporate seats in the eastern stand. I reckon that would hold all the home fans for a derby and a few interlopers from the coast. 31,300 would be big enough for derbies in my opinion but that is a minimum 10 year project away.

I don't think 31,000 stadium would be too big - If they do it right, a la AAMI Park; it could be a very nice sized stadium whilst maintaining a great atmosphere!
I reckon Western Sydney FC (if not rushed and done right) has the potential to overtake Victory as the biggest club in the A-League in several years of its existence so 31,000 would come in handy.

I found this old article in austadiums.com - looks like Parra Stadium have been considering hosting the western Sydney A-League team for a while.

$26 million upgrade for Parramatta Stadium wrote:
Wednesday 28th October 2009
...
The ground currently holds 20,000 but would increase to 23,000 with a gymnasium, additional dressingrooms and corporate rooms included.

Parramatta's overwhelming support was evident during the club's emotional charge to this year's Grand Final.

A new grandstand would also make the stadium more appealing to the new western Sydney A-League franchise.
The corporate facilities would accommodate weddings, expos, dinners and trade shows.

That is the Southern Stand project that has been reduced in scope and comes in Stage 4 or 5. A lot of the accommodation mentioned in that has been switched to the Eastern and Western Grandstand upgrades that are part of Stage 1 of the new Master Plan.

MV fans hate playing at Etihad because you all view it as not your home ground, you all say its too far from the field.

Now multiply that by 1000.

The only time ANZ has had a good atmosphere is when Australia played Uruguay in 2005.

Is it right to think that when the bid team speaks of playing at Homebush could they in fact be talking about playing at the new Sydney Showground and not at ANZ?

The Showground redevelopment is nearly finished for GWS to play at. It seats 25,000 and is oval shaped. Would this be better than playing at the empty 80,000 sorta oval/rectangle ANZ stadium?

"steel them too" - I like it!

I reckon, Western Sydney should call themselves the Wolves and Wollongong & co. call themselves the Steelers.

Western Sydney Wolves
PROS:
1. sounds good
2. consistency with the "w" words.

South Coast Steelers
PROS:
1. sounds good
2. consistency with the "s" words
3. Keeps the Illawarra Steelers memory and spirit alive
4. Any old Rugby Steelers' fans more likely to jump on board and become football fans ;-)
5. Supports the Illawarra steel industry

You know it makes sense...
