After being left in the dark for months by Sydney FC about a new contract, Sky Blues defender Shannon Cole has conceded it's highly unlikely he'll be offered a new deal. For the moment, he's flown to the US with his girlfriend - whom he met while playing college football in Schoolcraft, Michigan - to visit her family. While the 27-year-old is still very open to a new deal from Sydney, he's not getting his hopes up. The former Socceroo is casting his net across America for a deal with a Major League Soccer team. Meanwhile, Adrian Zahra, whose career was almost ended by Kevin Muscat's infamous tackle, has just joined A-League runners-up Perth Glory, as has Gold Coast forward Chris Harold.

Would love for him to stay at Sydney. He's the versatile player we need. He can play multiple roles, and chip in with goals, too. And he's on the cheap, he's not on very much coin as I understand it.

Given he went to College for a short time stateside (where he met his missus) I could see him getting signed by a lower league MLS club. Maybe a Portland or NASL team.

WOLLONGONG WOLVES FOR A-LEAGUE EXPANSION!

I think it all depends on who comes in as coach and i think that will determine whether or not he'll stay, if he goes to the MLS i can honestly see him playing for Portland

If I had the choice of living and playing for a shit team in the US or any team in Oz, I know which option I'd be taking.

Speaking as a Pom... Why would anyone want to live and play in the USA when they could make the same money in Australia?

It's not neccessarily just about the money, but about the opportunities it'd give you.

I suppose it depends on what you prefer - but from a playing perspective I would much rather be playing against David Beckham, Landon Donovan, Thierry Henry etc as opposed to our teams. Add the fact that the US get way more big name friendlies.

From a living perspective, I spent a while living there a couple years back and loved absolutely everything. I would go back in a heartbeat. Plus the proximity to Europe is a bonus.

Cos it's much cheaper to live in the US and if you have savings you can buy a house over there. Plus if your single you will pick up heaps of chicks.

I am not sure where heartenator and bennyblanco socialise, but if they are unable to meet women in Australia they are doing something very, very wrong.

Thanks for the tips guys, and without wanting to sound like Heineken I do have a girlfriend.
Was simply agreeing with benny that the girls in the US are stunning. Especially in NYC where you have a billion modelling schools/studios etc etc.

Way cheaper lifestyle over there, especially if you have a good job and your medical is taken care of. Houses, cars, clothes, petrol, food are all way cheaper. I was only there a few months back, can confirm.

Everywhere is cheap compared to Australia. If you can earn a comparable wage you would be better off living over there.

Dont know if he'd make the cut for the MLS. Be a good pickup for a NASL team though :P
