Disgraced shot-putter 'framed by coach'

From: The Australian August 15, 2012

DISGRACED Belarusian athlete Nadzeya Ostapchuk is accusing a former coach of framing her, resulting in a positive Olympics drug test.

Ostapchuk was stripped of her women's shot put gold medal after testing positive to using metenolene, promoting New Zealander Valerie Adams to her second Olympic title.

In an interview with Belarus newspaper Pressball, translated by news website Charter 97, Ostapchuk fingered former head coach Anatoly Baduyev, who was arrested by Russia's Federal Security Service in June under suspicion of embezzlement.

One accusation against Baduyev was that he extorted money from coaches and athletes by blackmailing them with the threat of positive dope tests.

Ostapchuk said she had been victimised.

"The person (Baduyev), you know who I mean, the one who was involved in blackmail, he promised me long ago: you will have problems with doping control," she said.

..."Now I think his threat begins to come true, even though he no longer works with us."

Ostapchuk repeated a desire to carry out her own investigation of the International Olympic Committee test result.

"I have nothing to hide from people. I've spent a lot of efforts to become an Olympic champion, I do not need excuses. I do not want to finish a career like this.

"Athletes need to know that there is someone to rely on, from whom they can receive support and advice. We want to feel protected instead of waiting for meanness from those who should help us."

Meanwhile, Adams wants to be presented with her Olympic medal in Switzerland.

Adams defended her shot put title at the London Games after Ostapchuk was stripped of the gold.

While there have been suggestions that Adams could receive her belated gold medal in front of a big crowd at an All Blacks rugby Test - either in Auckland against Australia, or in London against England later this year - Adams told Fairfax Media she wanted to receive it at an athletics meeting.

Ideally it would be at her training base of Lausanne, which hosts a Diamond League meet on August 23.

''I would like it sooner rather than later - and if I can get it before I go back home,'' Adams said.

''I'd love to do it in Lausanne where the IOC is based, and have it in a stadium at an athletics meet just full of people. And also Switzerland is sort of my second home and they've embraced this just as much as New Zealand has.''

Officials have suggested it could take months for Adams to receive the medal, particularly as Ostapchuk is protesting her innocence.

I love the way we're spinning 'statistics' to make it look like we did well at the games.

Just like the article in America where they proclaimed that they were ahead of China on the 'real' tally where they excluded sports with judged scores like Gymnastics and combat sports

Had to laugh-not with Ken Sutcliffe , but at him.
Talking about Jaroslav Kulhavy in the Mountain Bike medal presentation and how he had the audacity to wear gumboots to it

It's part(funny as it may seem) of their uniform Ken!!
How about some knowledge on the bloody subject

Yep mainly Swimming and Equestrian. They also ruined plenty of sports with poor commentators and with their chopping and changing.
