I locked it because not only is Broich not Australian, nor is Drogba or Messi which were two of the responses...another response was would we cap McGowan who is Australian. I had no problem with the question but within 8 responses it had in my opinion clearly gone off track and therefore locked it.

Notice the ban on the thread on Barcelona. Whilst the call was correct note who came barging in first with six guns firing calling for a ban? It's no coincidence the Melbourne Victory supporters are at the forefront, supported by the confidence given to them by over-represented Melbourne based moderators.

Most of what people write on here is off-track in my view, but unless it is really offensive (racist etc) then what's the harm in letting a thread die a 'natural' death ie when people get disinterested in it?

That said, the mods do a pretty good job, I'm just supporting the notion of free speech. I remember a fairly tasteless article heading from a 442 staff member relating to women's football, and many thought it was OK and I got shouted down by said 442 staffer for criticizing it. Apparently I had no sense of humour. But the article didn't get banned for being stupidly titled. Probably right decision too, it ran its course and eventually died off.

I just visited that thread, and Joffa was right in locking it. It wasn't going anywhere fast and was only going to degenerate into nonsense even further judging from the first handful of replies.
I'm not sure what the OP's intentions were in terms of discussion. They didn't offer any in the OP except a yes/no question regarding Broich and a "what if" he was Aussie.

To create this thread in protest is laughable and more trolling than the thread in question.
