If you watch european teams play all the players can shoot the ball, even the centers have decent range. We lack options offensively, I find it baffling we dont use brockhoff more often he has fantastic range. Simmons is probably the most talented player at the moment for australia. I just don't understand why he hasn't been included he dominated the world allstar game. Watching him play is like watching a combination of magic johnson and tim duncan. But you're right with lemanis in charge we are doomed.

Simmons apparently went up against Lebron , James Harden in a camp and by all accounts more than held his own.
Hes ready.
Looking at Bogut he really looks rusty.

We were really lucky to win this game...NZ cant hit big shots.
The Euro teams like Spain with their sharpshooters would destroy us.

NBL AND FOX SPORTS ENTER LANDMARK DEAL
The National Basketball League and FOX SPORTS today announced a five-year partnership to broadcast all games of the NBL live in High Definition; to be reviewed at the end of the 2015/16 season. This is another significant step continuing the return of basketball to its rightful place as a major force in Australian sport.

Executive Director of the National Basketball League Larry Kestelman said the broadcast rights deal is an indicator of the public’s confidence in the sport and its popularity.

“We are excited to announce our partnership with FOX SPORTS and Foxtel. We are dedicated to making the NBL a best in breed, professional and commercial product that delivers the best entertainment on offer to the public over the summer, and today’s announcement is a huge step in that direction.” he said.

“Fans love watching sport live – and being able to deliver basketball, produced to the high standards for which FOX SPORTS are renowned, live to our fans is of fundamental importance to being a premier summer-sport in Australia.

“Basketball has the highest levels of participation of any sport played by Australian kids, and enormous popularity across all genders and cultures. The potential for our league to partner with other basketball leagues around the world, particularly in Asia, but also in the United States and across Europe, is of significant importance; it is what differentiates us from so many of the other front line sports in Australia and it opens up a number of growth opportunities.

“We are already in direct communication with the NBA and well on the way to building bridges with both the Chinese and Philippines basketball leagues with a view to working closely with them to grow the game and capitalise on its popularity in our region.”

FOX SPORTS CEO Patrick Delany said: “Basketball is one of the most popular sports in the world and is booming in Australia due to the recent success of our home-grown NBA stars.

“With more Aussie kids playing the sport than ever before and interest soaring, basketball is entering an exciting new era in Australia and we are thrilled to be partnering with the NBL at such a watershed moment.

“Today’s announcement that FOX SPORTS will provide live coverage of every match on national television, in a first for the NBL, is a huge win for fans and will ensure the next generation of Australian stars can watch the best local players in action, every week,” Mr Delany said.

The deal will see NBL games telecast live in prime time at 7:30pm AEDT across Wednesday-Saturday evenings throughout the 19 week regular season. FOX SPORTS will also broadcast Sunday games and more than 12 double header games during the prime time evening slots between 5:30pm and 9:30pm across Wednesday – Saturday.

Kestelman also added that the NBL has made provision for a weekly live game to be simulcast on a free to air network and the NBL is in high-level discussions with the commercial networks.

FOX SPORTS and Foxtel will become key partners to support the growth of the NBL in Australia with significant promotional support to be delivered across all platforms. Broadcast arrangements for New Zealand are close to being finalised.

The NBL has attracted significant momentum, as well as corporate interest. Just this week the NBL has announced major retailer Chemist Warehouse as a major sponsor and has a number of other announcements to follow.

The NBL season will be launched at Melbourne’s Crown Palladium on the 5th of October with the first game being played on Wednesday 7 October when Adelaide play the New Zealand Breakers at home.

Been said on Twitter that the reason for the review at the end of the season is due to Fox demanding a team from Brisbane.

if they move the season to winter, or 'shoulder' season, ie during nrl and afl finals- when theres not so many games of afl and nrl (do the math, its 4 games in week 1, 2 week 2, 2 week 3, 1 week 4), thats when the nbl should start

They also need to bring back the razorbacks, west sydney is a catchment area

Also, if they merge with the SEABL (the primary winter comp played in south east australia) thats when the nbl will function properly again

Beggars belief really. Surely it won't last.

what kind of crowds do melbourne united get?
Melbourne tigers used to get great crowds. So much history behind the club as well.
I don't think the support would be there if the Wildcats changed to perth united, the backlash would be huge.

From what I understand, they changed it due to being the only Melb team left, and the Tigers were hated at junior level and by the ex fans of other melb teams, all the more reason for a second team in Melb.

A bloke I work with played basketball at a fairly high level and played with/against Ben Simmons. He was telling me how much of a freakshow the fella is. He reckons he's going to be one of the next big things in the NBA.

What's interesting is that he seems to have developed almost entirely in Australia (maybe he went to camps in the States, but for the most part he did his development here).

So I take that to mean he did his technical development in Australia.

How does developing basketball technique work in terms of age? Is basketball as technical as football (which is, in itself, less technical than stuff like tennis and gymnastics, arguably).

I find it staggering that Simmons is this good and he developed in Australia.

Imagine if a footballer touted to be the next Andrea Pirlo developed almost entirely in Australia.

I think that's true. But I mean that, in football, people say that basically all the technical development should be sorted out by about 15, 16 (maybe earlier). How does this compare with basketball? Simmons has done most of his development in Australia.

National Basketball League: Brisbane Bullets make comeback after seven-year absence

BRISBANE will bounce back to life in the National Basketball League in 2016-2017 with an old name, familiar venue and new colours.

NBL powerbrokers will be in Brisbane on Friday to address the corporate and basketball communities about the return of the team – to again be known as the Bullets – after seven years in the wilderness.

Brisbane will also adopt the traditional Queensland sporting colours of maroon and gold instead of the blue and gold once worn by the three-time NBL champion club.

It will mirror the colour combination of the popular Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA who boast superstar LeBron James as their spearhead.

NBL bosses will hold a forum with basketball identities, potential sponsors and future ownership partners at the Brisbane Convention Centre.

They will then unveil the team’s new logo and their first fulltime employee, which is believed to be assistant coach CJ Bruton.

Bruton is a six-time NBL title winner as a player including the 2007 championship with the Bullets and gives the club an identifiable and credible face.

The NBL has been swamped with applications for the Bullets’ general manager role which was advertised last week.

The NBL have also identified a number of possible candidates to be head coach.

The team will play at two venues in the 2016-2017 NBL season. One is set to be the Brisbane Convention Centre at Southbank.

NBL officials were also interested onlookers at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre for the ANZ Championship netball grand final when Boondall was configured to hold 7000 spectators. The Gold Coast were also keen to host some NBL home games.

Yea they are but I'd say most people in Brisbane don't particularly care about those colours - just look what the Broncos decided on when they were formed.

But anyway in this instance I don't see why they feel the need to change the logo and the colours, just respect the past ffs.

Oh well, will def try and go to our first home game back - should be a great night.
