also the tournament organisers wont admit it, but its probably the hardest australian open in recent memory in a spate of incidences in the crowd through medical emergencies
And the betting scandal was so bad the promotion gambling was put on a muzzle for the women's singles final. Where were the odds courtesy of William Hill?
That would have been hard for the tournament organisers as they were the main sponsors. Apparently tennis betting has become so bad that people are betting on whole tennis tournaments without watching a single point, those punters were going by rankings and they were still profiting

That was a great final. =d> Serena really didn't play like her normal self but Kerber was superb, her serving in that first set =d> After watching a few matches this tournament I really thought it was going to be between Serena and Azarenka but for Kerber to beat both she's certainly a well deserving champion. Kerber seems like a cool chick as well. Condemned666 wrote: That would have been hard for the tournament organisers as they were the main sponsors. Doesn't surprise me, I wish I found out about William Hill's Chase the Ace Promotion earlier and had the time to set up an account, they were practically handing out free money.

Harsh on Tomic and Kyrgios.
Tomic made the last 16 and Kyrgios made the last 32. If anything they should've risen.

Tomic made the last 16 and Kyrgios made the last 32. If anything they should've risen. But in the determination of the tennis rankings, consistency is rewarded. Basically, a tennis player drops points if they are unable to replicate the performance in a tournament they took part in precisely a year before. In the case above, Kyrgios made the quarters/ fourth round in last year's Aus open. Tomic made the quarters??? This evades me. But it appears as though the players couldnt match last years performance at this year's Aus open Yes I was just about to make a post about this, it's basically always about defending your points that you've earn't in the previous year. So in Kyrgios's case before the Aus Open he started with 1,260 ranking points. Last year due to making the QF at the Aus Open he made 360 points but from only making the Third Round this year he only made 90 points. So he lost 270 points from his ranking points and is now on 990. Tomic is quite unfortunate as he made the Fourth Round last season and this year, so he defended his points but the performance of others saw him drop. ie: Monfils 2015: 2R, 2016 QF. Bautista Agut 2015: 2R, 2016 4R. Thiem 2015 1R, 2016 3R. Just need to be consistent all season long particularly in the big tournaments.

I see, but harsh nonetheless as they both lost to opponents in the top 6. The luck of the draw sometimes.

Ended up beating Gasquet, Berdych & Cilic in this tournament. Impressive.

Dam Kyrgios just retired hurt against Wawrinka has been battling a back injury the past few days. A shame as if he beat Wawrinka he would've been favourite to win a second title in the space of a week. But nonetheless he'll finish the week inside the top 30.
But anyway Tomic has a huge chance to Acapulco in Mexico this weekend, has a semi against Dolgopolov and would play Thiem/Querrey in the final. If he were to win the tournament he'd reach a new career high ranking at 15.

Helloworld1992 wrote:Have my suspicions that the only thing motivating Tomic is Krygios I dunno tbh he's been particularly average in the last two weeks, he's gone deep in this tournament here but he's only beaten Ram, Mannarino & Marchenko. He's finally come up against a quality player in Dolgopolov and is currently getting battered.

So Despite going down 1-6 in the first set, he ended up getting his shit together and won the match, hopefully he plays Querrey in the Final can't see him beating Thiem.

@Helloworld1992 you're certainly onto something with Tomic v Kyrgios. Midway through an important Davis Cup match you have Tomic having a sulk about Kyrgios instead of concentrating on the match, the jealousy is strong in this one.

And now Kygrios just before tweeted a dig about Tomic's record loss in 28 minutes to Sam Querrey. He then deleted it almost immediately

a belated RIP, but the voice of tennis in the USA for many generations- Bud Collins has passed away at age 86 ObituaryHe had many inside stories about the players, how they got along on tour; and how the professional athletes which many of us see as robots, actually felt being on tour
