The one positive in throwing my money away on a crap movie is the reactions of fans when you say it sucked

I came out feeling my ranking was V, IV,VII TFA> VI>>III >>>>>>>>>>II,I With the dust settling of a week it's probably now V, IV, > VI,VII TFA>>III >>>>>>>>>>II,I
Still easily better than the best prequel but not quite on par with the weakest of the original trilogy . Close though.VIII really. Has the potential to be up there with the best. It just needs to be more original

Being an expanded universe fan, I actually don't hate the 1, 2, 3 trilogy as much as most people. Obviously the scripting was the worst thing in the history of film, and it could have been better, but I do love that old Republic era in terms of history.

Lucas had the perfect trilogy right infront of him and somehow managed to fuck it up.

Ashoka and the clone wars with the best bit of revenge of the sixth showed there was potential. But the prequels were so bad.

The characters are what make Star Wars great, and they're what made the OT great. In the prequels the only character you really care about is Obi-Wan because you know him, apart from that they're mostly forgettable filler in a CGI shitfest. While Episode VII may be a retread of ANH for the most part, as a soft-reboot that's what it needed to be, but the best things about Episode VII are the new characters and that's the biggest thing. We now have characters and stories people actually care about and can invest in moving forward in this trilogy.

Also Ep 7 is just as good if not better on 2nd viewing, and that Stormtrooper Rey uses the jedi mind trick on is 100% Daniel Craig.

Jude Watson is an expanded universe writer who gave the old stuff so much potential. Some of the Clone Wars Novels were awesome, but they butchered the amazing characters like Greivous. Greivous had killed dozens of Jedi, including council members, yet he was nothing but a coward who couldn't sabre fight in the movie.

About ten years ago, I actually read the scripts for the proposed 7,8 & 9 on a very, very comprehensive and reliable website. Don't remember all the plot lines, but at the time they seemed awesome, although there was a bit too much digging up of old characters. The only thing that remains of Lucas' original ideas is that one of the main character's kids goes to the dark side.

Would I enjoy the new movie based on a very entry level understanding of Star Wars having only seen a little bit of one film when I was younger and knowing some of the references?

Has anyone watched the clone wars series? My youngest and I just finished watching season 1 of Star Wars Rebels. I've struggled to get halfway through the clone war movies but people swear to me that the clone wars keeps getting better and better. I know earth maul pops up. (Being sliced IN FUCKING HALF not being quite as lethal as I would have thought) The clone wars goes for about 5 or 6 seasons making it longer than all the movies / shows combined.

I went with a friend who hadn't seen any of them but basically watched a quick synopsis of the previous 6 on youtube in like 10 mins and they enjoyed it. That being said you'd probably miss some of the little references to the original series but it's not too much of a big deal.

I've owned 50 odd in my time. Grab yourself a copy of Heir to the Empire. It's a great series! Same good characters (mostly), new context, new twists. The best part is the main villain. He's absolutely brilliant.
