"zone representative and Hume City’s Ezel Hikmet speaking also"

If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know - then nothing will... If the only people talking are Greeks and Turks - and they agree - it's a sign that we're moving in the right direction!

Soccer: still hope for National Premier League
By DAVID JEANS Nov. 14, 2013, 8 p.m.

HOPE still remains for the establishment of a 2014 National Premier League in Victoria.

Football Federation Australia released a statement on Wednesday outlining the organisation’s intention to implement the NPL next year.

“In summary, the position is that FFA is in discussion with both FFV and the co-signatory clubs and is very keen for a solution to be found that will see the NPL implemented in Victoria next year,” the statement read.

Speaking on behalf of the co-signatory clubs opposed to Football Federation Victoria’s proposed NPL model, South Melbourne Football Club board member Tom Kalas said the FFA was still in talks to implement the NPL in Victoria next year.

“We are obviously working with the FFA to help them implement the NPL in Victoria. And the FFA is obviously talking to the FFV board despite the FFV announcement last Friday that stated the NPL would not go ahead,” Kalas said.

Kalas stressed the co-signatory group had always been committed to including four regional teams into the NPL structure, including Ballarat.

“The co-signatory clubs from their inception have always embraced the regional clubs in their model. We have given over 22 public updates that have indicated this fact since August,” he said.

“Ballarat is certainly a club with strong infrastructure and we feel that Ballarat would be a welcome member of the co-signatory.”

Ballarat Red Devils NPLV football committee chairman Duncan Smith said the club supported the co-signatory group and FFA to establish the NPLV in 2014.

Smith said he could make no comment on whether the Red Devils would join the co-signatory group.

“We support the co-signatory’s group and the FFA to establish the NPLV in 2014,” he said.

“There are six regional cities in Victoria that would have the capacity to host an NPL team, but Ballarat, Wodonga, Geelong and Shepparton have all sounded out their interest.”

That's accurate,
as the Co-Sig NPL model published had Regionals in both the 2 NPL leagues (NPL & NPL1).

Here it is again

Hopefully Geelong is one of those four. On Twitter it said that Galaxy's application didn't make the cut. But one team in the NPL should be enough. Maybe North Geelong Warriors.

Agreed! I'm sure the FFA can handle a country of 23 million on their own. Maybe they could just have branches/offices or whatever in each state. So the NPL would be governed by FFA Vic branch, or something along those lines.

It'd be ideal but very very difficult politically to achieve, as, like Australia itself, the FFA is made up as a federation of the associations from each state.

I think greater emphasis needs to be placed on developing a direct relationship between the FFA and local associations, that's where the future should lie.

State bodies' only function seems to the running of state leagues, most clubs in which are accountable to no one, plus they run the state teams.

State teams can be run by an enlarged FFA, state leagues (NPL) can also be run centrally, allowing the FFA to have greater say in the clubs' MO.

There also needs to be greater emphasis on developing a formalised player pyramid leading to and run by the HAL clubs.

All of this would easily do away with the state bodies who seem to be big on intransigence but small on genuine progress.

I think it is clear that the FFV either need to be stripped down to an administrative body (as they were set up to be) and let clubs sort out the specifics or replaced entirely by a new board clubs actually want representing them. Problem is - who will step up?

If the FFA has sidestepped the state body that to me changes the balance of power and shows where real legitimacy lies in Vic Football.

It would appear that the comments made by the group were to do with the clubs needing to have everything in place so that when the opportunity to apply comes along there won't be an excuse to turn anyone down.

Well it's not as exciting and direct as we'd first hope, but hopefully this is finally enough to make the FFV cave with the threat of being cut out of it.

Sounds to me like very little has changed. The FFA are trying to get the FF and clubs to come to an agreement and are acting as the peace maker.

Good to see the clubs are atleast getting organised in case a decision is made to go ahead, but where does this leave the remaining parties that were in the running to join the NPL prior to the court case?

FFA asked the clubs to meet with the FFV... FFA attended the meeting.
FFV left the meeting saying that progress had been made and they were close to an agreement.
Next day FFV announce that there hasn't been progress and the NPL won't happen.

Says a lot about the conduct of the FFV in that meeting that having seen the conduct of both parties the FFA are siding with the nasty ethnics over the local governing body.

That's great news! Sounds very promising. Good work to the clubs for sticking to what they believed was the right thing to do. I didn't know all that much about FFV's proposal originally, but reading that the FFV didn't want promotion/relegation was a bit frustrating.

Looking forward to a great league!

The clubs which snubbed the official National Premier League Victoria (NPLV) model say they have been told by Football Federation Australia (FFA) to prepare for a new competition in 2014, and to announce successful applicants for next year’s league themselves.
The clubs believe that they will be in a position to announce the licencees for the league by the end of next week.
The revelation comes from a meeting among the clubs in Coburg last night, which media was invited to attend.
South Melbourne director Tom Kalas and GPZ Legal’s Nick Galatas spoke for the majority of the hour-long presentation, with zone representative and Hume City’s Ezel Hikmet speaking also.
Kalas claims that FFA are committed to implementing the new league in 2014, despite a court injunction which prevents the Football Federation Victoria (FFV) from doing the same thing.
“We are currently working very closely with the FFA,” Kalas began by saying.
“They’ve asked us, and we’re going to say to everyone in this room that we need to prepare for the NPLV for next year – may no mistake in that at all.
“The clubs in the top 24 ranking at the moment will be contacted by us to say “can you comply with [the NPLV] criteria?” If yes, you’re an NPL club next season, so you can go hire your coaches and technical directors.
“Next, the FFA has asked us to make sure that we’re tight and we proceed to plan for the NPLV next year – that’s critical.
“They are very confident to proceed and so are we.
“So next week, the end of next week, we’re going to announce the 24 clubs in the NPLV and NPL1 … so please, get your coaches licences.”
“The FFA have asked us to look at implementing NPLV for next year.”
Comment has been sought from Football Federation Australia.
Football Federation Victoria was offered an opportunity to comment on any aspect of the situation, but believed it was appropriate that MFootball direct its FFA questions direct to FFA only.
