+x+xLooking forward to getting out to ABD for the game tonight, hoping for an Avondale upset of course. So far in the FFA cup, the team that has defeated the reigning champions has always gone on to win the cup. So... Good luck! The reigning league or cup champions?

+x+x+x+x+xNPL sides holding their own more and more each season. True. They are playing HAL clubs being flogged in pre-season training though. Still have a major fitness advantage over these semi pros, the A League clubs usually end up over running them by the end to save their skin. Imagine if these Bentleigh, APIA and other top NPL clubs got proper professional training how good they could be. One would think so. However, some players find it difficult stepping up to a full time training regime. I knew one player who went to a HAL club from a NPL club. His body had a lot of difficulty coping with the volume of pro training in the HAL after previously being a part-timer in the NPL. I think at the end of FFA Cup games, the HAL players are often struggling physically, because they are fatigued from training. Mark Rudan was beastly careless about Nix losing to an NPL club because he was flogging them so hard on the training track at the time in preparation for the HAL season. I tend to think that in every professional football club in the world the players would be getting "flogged" at training. Such is the essence of professionalism. That excuse was quite frankly pathetic & probably not the reason why they lost. Why are semi professional clubs who train 4 nights a week after work able to match quite well it with clubs who do, double sessions 6 days a week, UEFA licenced ciaches, sport science backing, video sessions, sports psychology, nutritionists, facilities etc etc etc & of course the unmentionable question of significantly larger pay packets & revenue. Now we all know the answers to these questions however that would rock the boat. Pre-season training is all about getting teams fit for an upcoming season. Despite differences in professionalism, upsets will occur in any Cup competitions too.

From what I have seen of the two teams, Avondale could do this. It's a banana skin this for Sydney and a massive test of Avondale's fortitude. As for WSW v MC, I havent seen enough from the sides to make a call but I will probably lean towards MC.

+xI can't understand the stupidity from FFA and Foxtel for the upcoming fixtures. It's quarter finals and they are playing two games per night over two weeks simultaneously the dickheads. How the fuck didn't anyone from either side come up with a Wednesday and Thursday game so all four games would be live and you have two days of live football that week instead of the one in the FFA Cup. No common sense what so ever. Yeah this season of the FFA Cup has been done terrible with respects to TV related stuff. -PB

+x+x+xcrowds from the R16 Avondale FC | Devonport | ABD Stadium | 1200 | Broadmeadow Magic | Bentleigh Greens | Magic Park | 1628 | Cairns FC | Sydney FC | Barlow Park | 3950 | APIA Leichhardt | Melbourne Victory | Leichhardt Oval | 2467 | Queensland Lions | Adelaide United | Perry Park | 1774 | Adelaide Comets | Heidelberg United | West Beach Parks Football Centre | 1482 | Melbourne City | Newcastle United | MRS | 3673 | Bonnyrigg White Eagles | WSW | Marconi Stadium | 5107 |
The average for all matches in R32 and R16 is 2,101. It's the 4th highest average out of the 5 cups to date, but only 1 below 3rd (2016, average 2102) only 5k for BWE and WSW, i gotta say that is on the disappointing side lol That crowd still made the all time top ten for FFA Cup matches and was only the second match from the second round or under to make the top ten. Western Sydney Wanderers, who played in the heart land of western sydney (marconi stadium), against a western sydney club, should of hit capacity of at least 8k. But then again Bonnyrigg isn't a big club, and they bumped up ticket prices so people would of stayed away
Not a Phase, Not a Trend, SYDNEY UNITED till the END!

+x+x+xFuck me dead. 90 minutes is even worse. Why why why do Fox keep using him? Brisbane's a big place I'm sure there are others there that can sit on the sidelines and interview players (which is what he does during the A-League season). We were rubbish tonight but oh well, onto the next one. Oh yeah, we were horrible and I felt so sorry for the guy who made the mistake for the goal coz they were fighting so hard. I'm not OVERLY concerned because you could see we couldn't run at all and just wanted to go home against a very fit and up for it side but we march on into another round so will get more valuable minutes into the legs. Also, please please can we play Strain over Galloway once the season starts!! Please Kurtz..... Yep agree. I suspect Strain would have played if he was fit but we'll wait and see.

+x+x+xLions deserved more. Very poor form Isiais. Hopefully we don't get this Latin America crap infiltrate our league. Isaiah is a little sh1t. He did the same thing to multiple Wanderers players in the Grandfinal a few years ago and Gillett left him get away with it. Aha Ouch!! Probably true though! Interesting fact - no Queensland team played an FFA game this year outside of Queensland! Should Queensland loose a spot for not getting any teams into Qtrs?

+xPrize money is crap which is why every npl team wants to draw an A league team..ideally a derby matchup. If you have your home ground up to scratch you're laughing with ticket and food sales. Heidelbergs 2015 cup run netted them a profit of over half a million..they have been a powerhouse ever since. They almost packed it in at the end of 2012 when they were relegated from npl and look at em now. Bentleigh werent much chop prior to the commencement of the cup either but the tournament has allowed them to bring crowds in and make profits they wouldnt normally dream of. Cup Magic!

+xHeidelberg United have a very very busy September coming up. September 2 home vs Avondale FC at Olympic Village (NPL VIC round 26) September 8 away vs Devonport Strikers at Valley Road (NPL national elimination final) September 14 home vs Pascoe Vale/Oakleigh Cannons/6th place team at Olympic Village (NPL VIC semi final September 18* home or away vs Edgeworth Eagles/Lions FC (if Heidelberg United beat Devonport Strikers - NPL national semi final) September 23* NPL VIC G/F (if Heidelberg United win NPL VIC semi final) September 25/26 away vs Bentleigh Greens at Kingston Heath Soccer Complex (FFA Cup quarter final) September 29/30* home or away vs Sydney Olympic/Perth SC/Campbelltown City/Canberra FC (if Heidelberg United beat Devonport Strikers & Edgeworth Eagles/Lions FC - NPL national Grand Final) Bigger workload than A-League teams.
