My biggest concern for the competition is the self interest of clubs.

Wellington Phoenix claim to be involved, although this cannot be confirmed.

Tuggeranong United have seen the financial gain and have launched an appeal regarding their 'qualification'.

Now Sydney United are claiming they are already in. This would make absolutely no sense as there is no way you can arrive at 7 qualified teams from the Waratah Cup. It's a knockout competition FFS, you have 8, then you have 4. If the FFA confirm next week that Sydney United have to qualify, will they also launch an appeal like Tuggeranong? Self interest.

put it this way, some individuals in our board wouldnt be making these claims if the FFA didnt tell them after we won the NPL.
we should all know in due time.

If you include Phoenix and the NPL winner, then give 6 spaces instead of 8 for the Waratah Cup (play offs for losing Quarter Finalists would be required) - that could work. It's all speculation though until FFA launch the competition properly.

I'll keep the opening post fresh with the latest qualification news and results will be coming in from across the country thanks to other posters!

I don't think i've read any direct quote from FFA stating that the NPL winner will go through for 2014 FFA Cup, i also haven't read that it's 9 not 10 HAL clubs. At this stage, it's all chinese whispers being fed to reporters or reporters making stories up claiming to have spoken to "sources". I'd wait till there's an official FFA announcement, whenever that will be.

To some extent it is 'chinese whispers', however many states seem certain about the number of qualification spots available to them.

Queensland (4), South Australia (1), Victoria (4), ACT (1) and West Australia (2) have all indicated through reputable sources that they will have a certain number of spaces available for their teams to qualify.

For example with the Canale Cup beginning tomorrow, the tournament is structured so that the Semi Finals are played much earlier in the year so that two semi-pro teams from Brisbane can be put forward into the FFA Cup draw.

Hopefully with the NPL launch today the FFA Cup can follow swiftly just so that we can all enjoy these knockout tournaments with a degree of certainty :)

From what I've read, the breakdown is:
- 9 A-League
- 8 NSW
- 2 NNSW
- 4 Queensland
- 4 Victoria
- 2 Western Australia
- 1 South Australia
- 1 Tasmania
- 1 ACT
= 32 clubs.

Not sure what you mean by the 10th team taking Wellington's spot. Unless that spot is already included in NSW's 8 places (meaning they only get 7 normally, with Sydney United picking up that 8th spot for this year?)

Agreed. It'd also be nice if the FFA actually made an official announcement and launched the FFA Cup, particularly as the qualifying games are starting.

that is correct so one NSW spot is already taken up by sydney united.
but then again if SA won the NPL, no qualification spot would be available for SA...so you might be right... its still confusing me, as not everything is clear.
I do know the NPL will change format again because the Victorian teams should be entering...

I've no problem with the winner of the NPL play-offs being awarded a place in the later rounds of the FFA Cup, however I would note that the qualification pathway via the cups is quite obviously based around all of the quarter-finalists in NSW earning qualification. If Sydney United are in by right, then only 7 of the 8 quarter finalists can join them... So who decides which side misses out?

sydney united will still part take in the waratah cup, and if they reach the final 8, i guess it's the team the play against?

Football Federation Australia (FFA) today launched the 2014 National Premier Leagues (NPL) season for the semi-professional state-based competitions in Australian football.

The second edition of the NPL see clubs from eight (8) of FFA’s member Federations participate with clubs from Northern NSW Football, Football Federation Victoria and Football West competing for the first time .

Speaking at today’s official launch in Sydney, FFA CEO David Gallop said it was an important competition that underpins the Hyundai A-League.

“The formation of a standardised National Premier Leagues competition was a key component of our national football development plan,” said Gallop.

“Following the inaugural NPL rollout last year, we have seen a number of players graduate from the NPL to the professional ranks of the Hyundai A-League which is one of the key objectives of the competition and football pathway.

“This year we will see youth teams from some Hyundai A-League clubs compete in their respective NPL competition to ensure that our most talented players maximise their development opportunities by being able to play competitive football twelve months a year.

“We also acknowledge the efforts of the Member Federation and clubs. We have three new Federations on board being Football Federation Victoria, Football West and Northern NSW Football, which makes the NPL a truly national competition.

“I would like to wish all clubs the best for the upcoming season and look forward to seeing who will be crowned the 2014 NPL champion.

The opening game of the 2014 NPL season will be in South Australia on Friday 21st February between two of Australia’s most successful football clubs in West Adelaide and Adelaide City.

This is the best I could find for Tasmania:

http://www.footballfedtas.com.au/fileadmin/user_upload/Competition_Information/2014_FFT_State_Wide_Cup_Rules.pdf
Quote:
Lakoseljac Cup for Men is open to one senior team from each club who participate in either
the Victory League, Premier League or Premier League 1 competitions.

And also this:
http://www.footballfedtas.com.au/fileadmin/user_upload/_temp_/2014_Victory_League_Roster.pdf

Which has the the 'State wide Cup Rounds' as:
- Qualifying - 10 March
- Round of 16 - w/e 22-23 March
- Quarter finals - 21 April
- Semi finals - w/e 3-4 May
- Grand final - 9 June

we should all know in due time.

Knowing the FFA and their doublethink, i bet they said to the Sydney United board they were in without actually having any idea of how they would implement them and then later go back on their word and said that it would only ever be the 8 quarter finalists of the waratah cup.

I can't believe how difficult it was to find information about the FQ Cup (other than Brisbane). I could only find it in one place, but here it is:

And the article that goes with it:

Thanks for all the links and tip offs!

Samford Rangers are through to the 2nd Round after Acacia Ridge forfeited today's match.

So we'll have to wait until Saturday for an actual match to take place, games on in Brisbane, Adelaide and NNSW.

I wish FFA would just come out and launch the Cup already so we can stop guessing. Qualification games are starting this weekend, and there's still nothing official.

In the article below (which isn't about the FFA Cup), de Bohun made these comments:

Quote:
But mixing in the FFA Cup there’s more football for everyone, which is great, and it’s on the back of the World Cup, which is great.

In the short term, connecting the second tier with the A-League is what the FFA Cup is about.

Which also indicates it's happening this year.

IMO, there should be one day where they announce the dates for everything; final series, A-league, NPL, NPL Finals and state league fixtures. A national day would make it interesting.

Did you do this yourself?

Any chance you could reference all the sources for the fixtures?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_FFA_Cup_Qualifying_Rounds has a fair few of them.

Needs some updating though.
