The FFA have begun discussions on changing the current marquee system, which could mean that the current Australian Marquee Position will be abolished and clubs will be allowed to sign a 2nd International Marquee. These discussions have been provoked by clubs after the criticism of David Gallop's recent announcement that the A-League's 5 visa spots will be reduced to 4 from the 2015-16 season.

The FFA will consult with the PFA before any decision is made. It is thought that the change could come into place as early as next season.

2 foreign spots and 2 marquee foreign spots would essentially make for 4 really good quality foreigners in each timethat would significantly lift the level of the league. Its not a bad idea

Would be good to allow clubs to keep existing foreign players who have performed at a high level to compliment a genuine marquee.

Don't like that idea.

I like the idea of:
1. International marquee
2. Asian (inc Australian) marquee
3. Some form of half-to-full salary marquee for a visa player who has been at the club for 3 or more seasons (so to reward the likes of Broich, Traore, Cassio, etc)

If teams could afford it.

I like the idea. While I don't want to flood the A-League with foreigners and therefore dilute the potential of Aussie players, I'm happy for a 2nd international marquee, especially while the A-League is still in its infancy. It might really help boost the sport here.

If they're taking a visa spot away, I think it'd be a good idea to just have a marquee spots that are just free for alls.

I don't see the point in making one an "Asian" marquee, in all honesty. While, for the 2 or 3 clubs that may see ACL action could benefit due to the 3+1 rule in that competition, I find it a strange one to "force" other clubs to have an Asian marquee in their squad.

I'd rather it just be an open visa spot, if there is an Asian that is good enough to bring in, then so be it. If not, they could be a visa player that fits under the cap while a better international is brought in.

I don't mind it but the less cashed up clubs will hate it.

It's a great idea to have two international marquees.It allows richer clubs and better managed clubs to bring in more high profile players.Poorer clubs might baulk at the idea,but in reality i can't see how any team can dominate the HAL ,just because they have two marquees.
The more important benefit is in raising the media profile of the HAL in the never ending battle for popularity on the sporting landscape.Furthermore poorer clubs will benefit from increased attendances when clubs with two marquees play them.
I don't see any need for a specific asian marquee.Any club in the ACL will make their own decision on asian recruitment and of they want to use a marquee spot for an asian then that's their choice.But other clubs shouldn't be locked in.
What might be worth considering is FFA assistance for special marquees that are deemed high profile,so as to encourage clubs to recruit high profile marquees.
What is interesting is the coincidence of the issue being raised and Roar management being in the media spotlight at the moment regarding marquee signings.

This change has to happen.

Take Brisbane for example, we had to chose between Broich and Berisha and we had become a victim of our own success. Every team should be afforded the opportunity to have their own Broich and Berisha, the clubs shouldn't be limited to just one player of that quality because it halts the progress of the league

Hopefully this happens.
