If (in your opinion) population is the key factor then why are you surprised? Little to no change in population = little to no change in growth

You shouldn't see it as an issue

For this reason I thought it was a good idea to play the odd 'home' game at North Sydney Oval. Anecdotally most former Northern Spirit fans became CCM fans when the new comp stood up in 2005. For a brief period in 1999/2000, NSO was 'the' place to be in Sydney on a Friday night.

What??? Nah you're right. Let's keep our comp provincial with minimal broad interest...

NSL version 2 perhaps?? No thanks.

Absolutely amazing.

Why would u ever want to see empty seats.. that's just dumb.

But vanbasten, it can be argued that NS has already been tried, and it failed, last season or so - the move made with much controversy and the pain only worth it in terms of learning the practical realities (6.7k crowd, drastic drop on Mariners avg)? Granted, one fixture may not accurately represent the potential, but NS Oval is pretty much within SFC's catchment and the NS area is much closer to SFS than it is to Bluetongue.

But anyway, it must be made clear that the Central Coast and Bluetongue ARE home and that most of their fixtures are well locked in there. IF the obligatory game MUST be hosted/tried in Northern Metro Sydney, then 'lock that in' too, as a tradition, build up that 'secondary base' and then it's a win-win, as CCoasters, the members, have their fixtures lined up, season-to-season and the Northern Suburbs crowd their particular fixture. And if some in the Northern Suburbs lot enjoy the experience enough then they might become new converts and travel the extra mile up to Bluetongue now and again?

What we want to avoid is Charlesworth getting too crazy with radical ideas and turning Mariners into NS team or a veritable travelling roadshow ala Phoenix. The Central Coast and Bluetongue is their home, they are steadily building on a very solid base there. Growing into their growing market. It's certainly not worth risking that for what's already proven to not quite deliver on the hype, due to some very practical factors, outlined here and by many Mariners fans and many Northern Sydneysiders as too those in the more northern, Northern Suburbs - where that region IS a bit closer to Bluetongue and can be considered within their greater catchment.

The membership thread has seen a slight tangent, sorry for that.

crimsoncrusoe wrote:
Sponsorship is not based purely on the support base of the team in question.CCM may have a relatively small population, but a sponsor that has a national or international presence get's national exposure based on TV viewers much more than local community attendance or awareness.
A successful small team can be a good value proposition for any sponsor. It really comes down to marketing ability of the club to get the bigger sponsors.
The bottom line is smaller clubs can get decent revenue if run by good business people.

Indeed, the Mariners can rightly say they're participating in a NATIONAL league which airs to and is partaken by, a national audience. They also and often have, participated in the ACL, which means INTERNATIONAL exposure for the Mariners brand, players adorning those kits, especially to the markets travelled/participants faced, like CHINA, SOUTH KOREA and JAPAN.

This is why we wonder about how much they and a few of the A-League clubs, are exploiting this? Seems an under-exploited area and may partially have to do with FFA restrictions possibly, in the past? They've freed up more room for club sponsorship arrangements, separate from national league etc... The Indonesian-Magnate Bakries owning Roar etc... have been a positive benefit.

We saw some insight into this, when the Mariners were participating in the ACL, recent times. I know this deal was only short-term, for those games, but this shows what we mean:

http://www.footballaustralia.com.au/news-display/Water-giant-backs-Mariners-Asian-ambitions/67210

One can only imagine, if the Mariners went on an ACL run as successful as AU or the Wanderers now - the Asian audience exposure, the market potential, the national attention here... The sponsors would be clamouring like no time in their history. I'm sure Wanderers are benefiting from this, as we speak? :-k

Current Membership levels/Last Season's Crowd average, per club:

Adelaide United: 6,374 / 11,225 = 57%
Brisbane Roar: 10,713 / 14,957 = 72%
Central Coast Mariners: 4,313 / 9,398 = 46%
Melbourne City: 8,570 / 9,799 = 89.5%
Melbourne Victory: 20,277 / 21,808 = 93%
Newcastle Jets: 7,663 / 11,949 = 64%
Perth Glory : 4,506 / 9,418 = 48%
Sydney FC: 10,222 / 18,682 = 55%
Wellington Phoenix: 3,105 / 8,202 = 38%
Western Sydney Wanderers: 16,530 / 14,860 = 111%

=An A-League average of 9,227 memberships, per club.
2013/14 A-League Average Attendance: 13,027
Average percentage (Current Member levels to 13/14 Crowd average): 67.35%

Current Membership levels/Last Season's Minimum Crowd, per club:

Adelaide United: 6,374 / 6,980 = 91.3%
Brisbane Roar: 10,713 / 10,101 = 106%
Central Coast Mariners: 4,313 / 5,787 = 74.5%
Melbourne City: 8,570 / 5,046 = 169.8%
Melbourne Victory: 20,277 / 14,774 = 137.2%
Newcastle Jets: 7,663 / 7,692 = 99.6%
Perth Glory : 4,506 / 5,837 = 77.2%
Sydney FC: 10,222 / 10,148 = 100.7%
Wellington Phoenix: 3,105 / 5,336 = 58.2%
Western Sydney Wanderers: 16,530 / 11,892 = 139%

= An A-League average of 9,227 memberships, per club.
2013/14 A-League minimum attendance average of: 8,359
Average percentage (Current Member levels to 13/14 Crowd minimums): 105.35%

*Colours de-note those well above and below the average amongst clubs, also reflect my opinion, in regards to clubs doing well and those still 'under-achieving', to a degree.

Notes: Mariners Membership total was 5.9k last season and they could still be on-track to get close to that mark. That would take them in-line with the league, around 55-60% of average, 100% with min. Glory could/should still hit 5k members, at the least (Around 55% and much closer to 100% of crowd minimum). Phoenix's membership target is 4k members - which is still small, but closer to in-line with others in the league around 50%.

City's growth just reflects how far their barometer has shifted and hopefully their new era leaves minimum crowds like that listed above, behind them. Roar's growth is finally starting to fill in/catch up, to their other upward trending crowd barometers and that's very pleasing to see. SFC's stellar membership growth past two seasons is put somewhat in-context, with their stellar avg attendance growth. This may also re-inforce, pleasingly for SFC, that the club still has alot of room for growth, in-terms of growing that member-base even further. Perhaps the Jets' base is starting to settle and find it's true/real base?

And if I understand correctly, Wanderers numbers may seem a little deceptive (Still excellent), as their recent numbers include Ticket Buy-Back schemes or the like? Could be wrong on that though.

Thanks MrBrisbane, was thinking of doing it for a while, but now it's October and so close to season start - I think it's safe to say most of the clubs are near to peaked with their present membership growth. Most of their growth already achieved. So we can start to measure these things now, as indicators - read into them etc..

BTW Appreciated Grazorblade's own stats previous page.

Hopefully we also see Clinton pop up again, with his running tally and accompanying graph, for City's membership growth, vis a vis, Old Heart.

All quite interesting and enthusiasm brought about by all this, as Grazorblade put, 13% growth we've seen.

Also, thread = thread for stats geeks? ;) :p

Do wanderers memberships all count as pets?

Seeing as they are all animals.

Prediction of members by round 1:

Adelaide: 6.8k
Brisbane: 10.5k
Ccm: 4.7k
City: 8.8k
Victory: 19.8k
Jets: 8.3k
Perth: 5k
Syd: 10.7k
Wel: 3.4k
Wsw: 16k

= 94k at round 1. 8k growth on last season (just under 10%)

And I genuinely believe these predictions to be on the conservative side....

Don't see us getting into the late 8,000's at round 1 tbh
Think we will get 8.3-5

Yeah look... I'm expecting another 500 in the next 2-3 weeks and then hopefully if villa arrives that will surely spur on another few hundred along with the few hundred which would have signed up anyway naturally.

So if villa arrives late as fearfully rumored I would imagine low 8's but if villa arrives id expect high 8's

I'm struggling to see 8K at this rate. 1 month to go, and lately we have been averaging around 15 a day from what I can see.

Either the Villa effect or the end of AFL season boost kicks in in the brief period before Rd 1, or daily growth numbers will likely stay fairly steady as the current figures are experiencing.

I just get the feeling many are awaiting success to commit to the club. Without it, it will be a struggle.

Sales required per day until first game for City:

8000: 14.45 per day
8500: 29.50 per day
9000: 44.76 per day
10000: 73.62 per day

They are 2,946 ahead of Heart at the same time last year and Heart got 6,000 so my guess would be just over 9,000

9,000: 39.5 per day
9,300: 77 per day
9,500: 102 per day
10,000: 164.5 per day

3125 ahead of Heart at the same time last year
