Should mention that I personally know most of the leadership in the federal and state ALP. Not something to be proud of, but there it is. Have also met Martin Amis, Rushdie, and Jose Ramos Horta at one point.

WaMackie wrote:SocaWho wrote:Colin wrote:WaMackie wrote:SocaWho wrote:To be honest though I think it was Savage Garden and Silverchair who really broke through the US market for the Aussies. Prior to that it was a struggle in particular for the Aussie bands in the early 90s. I remember Johnny Diesel was one guy I thought who was way underrated for an artist and deserved more plaudits for his music. LRB, Air Supply, INXS did that. Daggy, but true. AC/DC??? Good mention Colin. Forgot about them. Bit past my era though, thats probably why I didn't mention them. Three of the best posters on here, all together.... and yes, add ACDC for cracking the US in the late 70s. Easybeats had UK success in the late 60s, but couldn't crack America. Billy Thorpe might rate a mention also..... ? C'mon guys. Seriously?!!!! The one band that cracked it, and I means smashed the US like no-one before or since was... MEN AT WORK, with their Business as Usual album Wiki: Quote:Business as Usual was one of the most successful albums internationally by an Australian group. It spent an unprecedented 15 weeks at No. 1 on the US Billboard 200 from late 1982 to early 1983; and five weeks at No. 1 in the United Kingdom Albums Chart in early 1983
