if you think you've been done over racially in australia then try living on your own in a country like india or togo and see how you handle yourself there. there are hundreds of other countries around the world that are much worse off - does that excuse us at all? of course not...but hey it could be worse right?

Sometimes we forget people are only doing their jobs All call centre staff cop obscene amounts of abuse regardless of situation, frustrated people will lash out at the easiest possible target. In a lot of cases the easiest target is the accent, but if I had a dollar for every time I've been screamed at and told to get a real job and/or kill myseld (because attempting to insult my self esteem was the easiest target) during my time on the phones I'd be a very rich man. well it needs to be put into perspective........what about when you get a call centre person who calls and does there speil and you say politely "no thank you, i am sorted and i am not interested", and they refuse to go away and continue on their mindless speil and you hang up and they call back.....???? then they deserve both barrells.......... The thing is that if they're doing things like this they have either done it accidentally and don't deserve your wrath for a simple mistake, or they are being vindictive and looking for a reaction which you are giving them. Best way to handle it is ask for their name and employee ID, what company they work for and request that they transfer you to their supervisor. There are very explicit laws regarding telemarketing and phone harassment, and companies are very sensitive to reputation in an already stigmatised industry.

I think you can confidently say that all of those terms are racist. Except maybe muppet. can you clarify which one you suggest are racist???? just bold red the ones you say are racist..............cheers I did clarify. All of them, except muppet (unless you're a puppet I suppose) Some are worse than others. how is convict racist???? is a convict a race Is Curry muncher a race? I'm white. And love curry. I'm a curry muncher. my point exactly.............i love curries as well, my wife cooks awesome curries and my brother in law is sri lankan so we swap recipes...... Would you ever use the term "curry muncher" to describe a white person? No. You would only ever use the term to describe someone from the sub-continent. And that's why it is racist. I shouldn't have to explain this to a grown man. well my brother in law is white, of sri lankan parents and born in new zealand, i call him a curry muncher.......so what should i call him???? a sheep fucking skippy curry muncher?? Call him your brother in law ffs  Why does he need any of those labels rofl. -PB actually i call him Keith.............

It's not worth getting upset about. It's easy to train agents how to deal with it, harder to train customers and clients that the easiest path to getting what they want is through staying calm and either talking it through or escalating up the line.

Edited by mvfcarsenal16.8: 8/10/2014 04:20:43 PM Sadly I'm going to disagree here. Australians are terrible customers. They are impatient and generally have no time for foreign people in customer service. For example, I would never hire someone with a thick Indian accent to work on a phone for a customer service job, unfortunately, it just gives Australians shits. Edited by eastern glory: 9/10/2014 09:09:21 AM Depends on the service, some things are acceptable, some are not. Very few people have the fortitude for high pressure phone service, ethnicity comes into it a lot less than you'd think. Generally speaking, if I have to internationally outsource on a job I will go Philippines every time. Whilst that's true, I'd say the majority of Australians are more comfortable with customer service or sales agents if they speak with a clear Australian accent. The customer service centre I worked at took calls from 3 different countries, including Australia, and it was very interesting to see how Americans and Canadians (generally) loved Australian agents, and how Australians totally disregarded Canadian or French Canadian agents.

I end up having a good half hour chat to the guys as most of the call centre's are in batangas and we chat about the place my dad's from . I also usually get discounts on my phone bills

Based biscuit man Im all over this- like an STI rash! If its not ok to wear a helmet, let alone a baseball cap, what entitles muslims to wear hijabs, niqabs, burqas in public spaces? And Dont throw me that phoney baloney about "respect and tradition" Good luck calling out your average baseball cap wearing bloke and telling him it's inappropriate in the middle of the city.
