Half of what JJJ plays these days would be classified as pop anyway. Seriously I can't tell if i'm listening to Nova or Triple J sometimes.

FBI all the way :)

She wasn't played on triple J, she doesn't deserve to be there. This has nothing to do with hipsters or mainstream music.

I'll stick to my Scandinavian metal and 70s funk, thanks.

By now, American Samoa must have realised that Australias 22-0 win over Tonga two days earlier was no fluke.

For what it's worth, I've never voted in it before. I've never really listened to triple J unless I'm in a mates car and that's the station its tuned too. However, this year I'll vote for Tay Tay, and hope she wins, and I'll relish in the butthurt of mad hipsters who will probably burn down the majority of Newtown & Enmore in anger.

I grew up listening to the most obscure bands etc, that were apparently on jjj, I never got onto that train for whatever reason, infact my car radio is either on an AM station or IPOD, this year will be the first time of doing something that will include the countdown cause Ive always gone to the victory Australia day game, everyone has been posting their picks on fb, can honestly say I've never heard of any of these musicians. I must be old. I love this taylor swift thing, I fucking hate these hipsters, I don't get it, one of my greatest loves is craft beer and that scene is now being overrun by stupid beards, bad hair cuts and man buns. To me that all seems a bit similar to the punk movement where everyone professes their individuality by dressing the same, listening to the same music and calling anyone out who isn't the same as them!

What people don't realise is that the term hipster now describes a different group of people. When the term became prolific 5 or 6 years ago, the to described a certain dress style and a few other things to go with it, but for the most part, those people now dress differently. Most GENUINE hipsters now dress poorly in an ironic sense.

Basically because the indie fashion sense just became the norm for most young people, hipsters have move to ironically dressing in very plain fashion. You'll probably also find that triple J's style of music is pretty popular right now, as it's moved away from indie rock and folk to electro pop. That transition has met pop music on commercial stations half way, so that you get the likes of 'Peking Duck' who are loved by both a triple J audience and a mainstream audience.

Most people who Coin the term 'hipster' are just so far off the beat that it's not even funny.

I love JJJ but I love #bantz even more, so I am so happy with both the fact that the Hottest 100 is getting trolled, but also that so much publicity is going towards the Hottest 100 - even more than normal!

Yeah and Vertigo by U2 made the countdown with out ever being played on JJJ.

Mind you there were no organised campaigns backing those songs.

I like that swift song, but I also see the integrity of the count down is important. Her fans voting for her are not going to be listening to JJJ and even on the day wont listen.
They would just be waiting for a twitter update saying they had won, So I support JJJ culling her for that reason.

--**edit**--
Ha ha, Just remembered some 'HIPSTER' (tm) band covered Taylor Swifts shake it off, only 2 weeks ago for like a version.....?!?

Just for the record, I don't care what is played on Triple J, I never really liked the station. The real issue here is that I would really love to tap Taylor Swift and I never will.

I disagree, I bet a lot of JJJ listeners are voting in protest.

Ironically while the thought of Swift infiltrating the Hottest 100 has alarmed many ardent Triple J listeners, Melbourne’s Vance Joy, who won the Hottest 100 with Riptide last year, will open for Swift in concerts across the US, UK and Australia this year.
Swift’s best friend, Lorde, was No. 2 on last year’s Hottest 100 and Milky Chance, who are tipped to poll well with Stolen Dance, covered Shake It Off for Triple J’s Like a Version last week.

Most major artists who will feature in the countdown have been using their facebook and websites to campaign for votes so I don't think they can rule her out on that front.

So much this, it's thrown around way too liberally. I feel like the whole hipster hate movement is just a massive bandwagon/social media fad that few people really understand what a hipster is or why they are supposed to hate them, it's just easy to call something or someone hipster and criticize because everyone else is.

JJJ is really popular these days and I'd wager that the percentage of actual hipster's that make up the audience would not be much at all tbh.

Also at the end of the day they are huge supporter of New australian music.
It is a hard line for them, they play a diverse range of music which means you are going to hear things you will hate amongst the things you love, but the moment they start catering to one audience is the moment you whack an Austradio sticker on them and they become a commercial station.

Also I am far from a hipster and alot of people I know are and we all grew up on JJJ and still listen.

Hipsters are just people who get annoyed when things they like become popular. Example being when an indie band cracks the mainstream.

Said like a true hipster ;)

But hipsters have always despised it when something they associate themselves becomes popular, and usually very quickly disassociate themselves with it.

I agree with your point about the word being misused and overused. I find the term bogan is used just as badly

Take 40 wrote:
Taylor Swift allegedly disqualified from Hottest 100 because of KFC social media post
20 January 2015

Taylor Swift has apparently been disqualified from Triple J's Hottest 100 because of a social media post made by KFC which used the #Tay4Hottest100 hashtag.

To recap: Last week, Buzzfeed started a grassroots campaign to get Taylor Swift's song 'Shake It Off' to #1 on Triple J's Hottest 100 - the annual countdown of the biggest hipster songs of the past year.

Most people thought the article was cute when they first saw it... but that was before Taylor became the second favourite to win the comp! Read more on that HERE.

Yesterday, however, ex-Triple J presenter Angela Catterns claimed that Tay Tay had already been disqualified from the music poll!

Speaking on a panel for ABC's The Drum, she said 'You probably know that there was a push to get a Taylor Swift song in [the Hottest 100], which has now been disqualified because a fast food chain became involved in the whole process'.

The fast food chain she's talking about is KFC, and the way they got involved was by posting this seemingly innocent and informal competition on Facebook:

The rules of the Hottest 100 state that '[Triple J] reserves the right to remove artists from the list who have benefited from competitions or commercial campaigns that incentivise fans to vote for them.'

The good news: KFC does not explicitly tell people to go and vote for Taylor Swift in the ad, so there is a good chance that Angela jumped the gun in announcing the disqualification.

The bad news, however, is that there is every chance Triple J may choose to disqualify the song because of KFC.

There are a whole number of problems with this, mainly because KFC was not acting as an agent of Taylor herself.

What if KFC decided that tomorrow they were going to run a similar Facebook competition with Peking Duk instead of Taylor Swift? Does that mean that Peking Duk would automatically be disqualified, even though they had no part in the actions of KFC?

Punters aren't able to bet on the Hottest 100 currently, but at last look, Taylor was the second favourite on Sportsbet, and the fifth favourite on Centrebet to take out the Hottest 100 title.

Certainly could provide JJJ with their out, soft though it is.

The whole hottest 100 is a joke now anyway. There use to be a good mix of stuff but it seems very genre biased. The best metal/punk albums of the year can't even get a song on the list while you've got up to 10 songs of the same shit pop group listed. I don't listen to the radio anymore but it seems JJJ went the way of the commercial radio stations there really isn't any difference.

This is why I cannot see the fuss with Taylor Swift? Look at the top 10 from last year. She fits right into this list.

Metal and punk bands still get a shout on the J's. it just depends on how the voting goes. BMTH and Karnivool always get a go when they have stuff out. If you look at the lists over the last few years, it's decently balanced.

This year though, Chet Faker will destroy it and rightly so. His only challenger is Mark Ronson with a very late charge...
