If you say so. We're both agreed that, unfortunately for Greece, it's on a constant war-footing.
Without having genuine expertise in this, I agree Greece is militarily stronger than Australia. I also agree that Greece is a useful NATO cog that forms a bulwark against Russia.
But, as I say, if push came to shove and it was required to draw on reserves, then Greece would struggle a bit. And, as I say, I'm also somewhat sceptical about the specialisations of the Greek military (even in the context of being on a war-footing) compared to the military of a number of other nations (Australia, among them).

Yes it is constantly on a war footing to defend the homeland. They are constantly being threatened with war. But Greece will never start it. It would have to come under attack. If and when that happens, they are well placed to defend themselves with success, which is probably the reason why no one has been willing thus far. Greece doesn't need to draw on reserves. Every household with males between the age of 18 and 55 has their own military issue weapons and ammunition. They also have stockpiles to fight for a very long time. They will also be able to draw on assistance from NATO allies, Israel and USA. Greece has a mutual Defence pact with Israel. Also, America will just continue to supply Greece with anything it requires and the Ameticans would likely even mobilize their own troops.

And Greece has plenty of TOW in its arsenal. They also have Javelin. Greece will not use the Tanks to invade countries. They use them to defend Greece, Which means the are there to provide infantry cover and heavy fire from behind the lines along with other gun positions. Edited by Aikhme: 3/7/2016 05:15:48 PM

Belarus is a Donkey Country. You're a Donkey. Greece is a very proud and bueatiful country and is actually considered a good middle power and member of NATO! Even the Financial Crisis is no reflection on greece but rather economic conditions and a fiscal union and currency which do not suit the Greek economy and as a result cause a lot of mayhem not just for Greece but others as well like Italy, Spain, Ireland, and Portugal. The UK is experiencing similar bully tactics from the EU now as well, and I for one wish them luck and hope they don't back down. Do you remember all your boasts about the Socceroos beating Greece 3 or 4 nill? Remember all your boasts about Greece losing to Faroe Islands. Well, Greece didn't lose 3 or 4 goals to nill. And in fact beat the Socceroos 2 goals to 1. And for a "shit Donkey" country ardtho, Greece has actually won a major Soccer Trophy when the won the 2004 European Cup. Not bad for a "shit Donkey" country. Maybe they are not so shit afterall. And maybe, they are in a building phase and maybe the FA is hit by the Financial conditions of the country which is why they lose to Faroe Islands. But still good enough to beat Australia obviously. Disgusting pig! Edited by Aikhme: 3/7/2016 07:03:06 PM

I also can't understand why on earth anyone would call the country they are from as a "Donkey Couyntry". Even if it is true, it just indicates a lot of barstardry to your very own and that borders on self hate.

Surely this has more to do with the nature of any military threat? Greece has land borders, so tanks would make sense. Why would Australia, a country with no land borders, have a lot of tanks? Wouldn't it make sense (for both countries) to have a military shaped to the threats they face?

And why has this thread been taken over by a discussion on Greece's military?
This is a discussion about Brexit.

This is a discussion about Brexit. Don't look at me. Some people think it ios ok to be saying that Greece is weak and a shit country. Well that is not true. It's a great country. It's just that they are entrapped into a system which is not conducive to their type of economy and they are prevented from printing and conduct Quantitative Easing. Greece is not so "shit" and has a strong military establishment which is able to act as the last line if all hell breaks loose. They are the guardians of the Nation, and have no issue with conducting a Coup if the country implodes.

Great Air Defence too with S300/400 and Patriots. More fighters, submarines, frigates, logistics but who really cares. Greece has had no choice but to invest in its military. Yes there are land and sea approaches and the threat is nearly constant unfortunately. They only are interested in their own defence. You are correct though. Australia's requirements are different to Greece. Edited by Aikhme: 4/7/2016 09:42:25 AM

Accomplished his 23 year goal and got out. Although he'll still be an MEP and probably active in the political sphere, just not as the head of UKIP.
Dunno how UKIP will go after this. Despite what you may think of him, Farage is a very charismatic figurehead for the party. I wonder how much of the vote will remain with the party with him gone.

He's not part of the Tory party, and his leadership of the UKIP party really does nothing to aid the campaign to leave. I can see him being involved in the negotiations at some point, or perhaps he just wants to enjoy private life after 23 years of public service devoted to one goal. I know you're devastated about the referendum result, but please try and be reasonable.

Suspect to say the least. His jobs done, it's up to the government to organise the withdrawal. All he was was a campainer, no one seriously thinks he can influence anything more while being the leader of a party with no legislative power? @Mcjules I see You've been taking lessons from the JP school of deflection
