No argument.

You have to wonder though if she wasn't a young, pretty whit thing would she cop so much hate. Seems disproportionate.

Munrub is right. Its all charlantanism and it should all be treated the same way. Also, this Belle Gibson is a patholigical liar turning on the crocodile tears for sympathy. She's very good at it. Claiming she had a troubled upbringing then her mum came out and said her upbringing was fine.

http://wwf.panda.org/what_we_do/endangered_species/rhinoceros/african_rhinos/poaching_crisis_african_rhinos/

Fueled by demand from Asian medicine market

Although there is no scientific proof of its medical value, rhino horn is highly prized in traditional Asian medicine, where it is ground into a fine powder or manufactured into tablets as a treatment for a variety of illnesses such as nosebleeds, strokes, convulsions, and fevers.

https://www.savetherhino.org/rhino_info/threats_to_rhino/poaching_for_rhino_horn

“For practitioners of traditional Asian medicine, rhino horn is not perceived as a frivolous love potion, but as an irreplaceable pharmaceutical necessity.”

Traditional Chinese Medicine

According to traditional Chinese texts, such as Li Shih-chen’s 1597 medical text “Pen Ts’ ao Kang Mu”, rhino horn has been used in Chinese medicine for more than 2000 and is used to treat fever, rheumatism, gout, and other disorders. It also states that the horn could also cure snakebites, hallucinations, typhoid, headaches, carbuncles, vomiting, food poisoning, and “devil possession.” (However, it is not, as commonly believed, prescribed as an aphrodisiac).

Rhino horn, is shaved or ground into a powder and dissolved in boiling water and consumed by the patient.

Rhino horn doesn’t have any medicinal benefit whatsoever, but it is a testimony to the power of tradition that millions of people believe that it does.

Homeopaths generally don't go out and target brain cancer patients and say a bunch of paleo foods cured it though. There's got to be a legal ramification there.

You would be surprised. I remember one patient I saw in Emergency who, when diagnosed with oesophageal cancer, went to a naturopath/homeopath where he received "treatment" and was apparently in "remission" for a whole year. Only problem was by the time he presented to emergency he was riddled with cancer. Had lost most of his blood and hadn't eaten for weeks. He died that day.

It depends how she legally presented her product I suppose. If you presented it as a diet and cooking product, even though she claimed to have cured her OWN tumor is she still Liable?

That's what I was thinking also. I feel as though there would have to be some legal ramification if she promised money to charities in writing. As in she went out to her community and said she had brain cancer to get donations citing a commitment to multiple charities and then pocketed the dough.

A homeopath might however recommend 1 part in a billion of a peanut as a cure for you little kiddy's anaphylaxis. Throw that epipen away. No need for that.

A homeopath may also recommend you don't get vaccinated. And as you would know people die from vaccine preventable diseases all the time.

Not too sure that's much of an improvement over BG.

I'm not a big subscriber to the Belle Gibson Way (tm) but did she actually say it will cure cancer or did she say it cured her cancer?

She claimed that her diet did cure her cancer as far as I know.

She also did fund raising using her brain cancer story. That on it's won should be a criminal offence.

Yeah not sure. But Benels is right. I do remember she claimed to raise money for charity then pocketed it. In fact thats what undone her as a family member outed her after they found out she hadnt donated.
I would imagine she made no formal approach to any charity, probs just told people "Im fund raising #YOLO"

Not sure of the rules here as it relates to that video but to go a bit "Tin Foil Hat" the lack of transparency in the TPP regards this is a bit concerning.

In Europe, as usual, there's a lot more transparency regards the negotiations.

Oh they have some interesting tricks here too. They buy us lunch, send in the pretty ladies and try to promote their product showing us results of studies. I rarely prescribe any of their new medications as I tend to follow therapeutic guidelines which are generic and usually based on older medications that have more safety data than newer meds. They're not allowed to give us gifts anymore though.

Oh and we thankfully don't have direct to consumer ads for prescription meds. That would be terrible.

I thought the agenda was to pitchfork a charlatan for convincing people to throw away their cancer medicines. Sounds like he's on point ONCE AGAIN to me.

FTR, the only crime I can tell she may be liable for is pocketing the proceeds of that charity thing and those details are sketchy at best..

As wrong as faith healers too <- don't anybody comment on this as it has the potential to 'derail' SW's thread ONCE AGAIN.

I have a friend that works as a pharma rep and he tells me it's pretty heavily regulated here. Still some bonkers stories about how it's done in the US

This story on Catalyst about Tamiflu was interesting especially regarding the studies that drug companies do

Personally though if I'm dying from the flu I'll give it a go even if it may not work!

The whole thing is hopeless. The very fact that the pharmaceutical companies are spending 9 out of 10 dollars on marketing and 1 on research just goes to show what happens when capitalism is let off the leash.*

*No I'm not saying we need to live in a socialist utopia.

She's trying to make everyone think she's the victim...its the most bizarre interview I've ever seen.

Why did she do this interview????? (besides the $450000). If she had layed low she would have been a distant memory in a few months.
Now she looks even more evil and stupid.

What was with the age thing??????
