More than a few of us have gotten sick and tired of the same multis and trolls derailing threads and utilising their "free speech". I generally enjoy this place so here is my gift to you... 442 Muter is a quick and dirty extension for Google Chrome that will remove threads and posts from users that you don't want to hear from. So this: becomes this: Ahh zen  As an added bonus it includes a usability fix to the youtube player so you get the proper widescreen player that can be made full screen without having to visit the youtube site. The project is open source and available on Github so if you're a coder and want to improve it, send me a pull request. There's heaps of things it could do to make it easier and nicer but I'm pretty busy and probably won't update it often myself if at all. Installation instructions 1. Download the extension crx from here2. Follow these instructions to add it to your browser How to configure the extension Muting a user or threadEasy! Simply: 1. Click on the show mute buttons link at the top and bottom of the page 2. Click the mute icon next to the user's name on a post or the thread name on the listing page Unmuting a user1. Open up the extension options page from the extensions tab 2. Click on the remove link next to the name you want to remove Feel free to post questions or feedback. Of course if I've muted you I probably won't respond  All previous releases available here

Thanks guys. MvFCArsenal16.8 wrote:Thanks jules, gotta add it on my laptop , cant seem do it for my phone or tablet Yeah unfortunately Google are refusing to support extensions for mobile devices (I can half understand why). There's probably a mobile browser that does I just haven't bothered to look :) Redkat wrote:Question though. Say I mute "TrollyMcTroll" and mcjules quotes the post by "TrollyMcTroll", how will I see mcjules' post? It won't mute those posts...yet. I've been using it for about a week and the fact that it doesn't hasn't bothered me too much and has definitely improved things. elf.II wrote:can i mute my own posts with this? Awesome work. Can you still view a muted post if you want to, or is everything just blanked out after you mute someone?

Well it won't stop quotes that's for sure :) -PB Yeah I may fix the quote thing on the weekend. I had also considered rather than completely obliterating the post, we could just hide it and provide a button/link to show it but I haven't bothered yet. For the time being opening the page in incognito mode will give you the unmodified page. Edited by mcjules: 26/5/2016 09:06:55 AM

Re: mobile devices I had a quick look. Apparently the Kitt browser for iOS supports Chrome extensions. I don't have a device to test but the API calls used in the extension are supported so if you can install a crx with it, it should work. For Android, I didn't see any solution apart from perhaps creating a custom app that uses a browser component and injects the muting code into the page. Maybe one day if I feel like doing some professional development but if there are some experienced app developers out there that think it's easy then that'd be cool too.

Thanks mcjules =d> =d> =d>
Now people can decide for themselves which new users are obvious multis, who deserves the benefit of the doubt, and who are multis but a good laugh...for a while.
(Im only blocking 1 multi for now, but a prob their other identity when it returns in a few days)

However, those that are deliberately inflammatory, don't debate and in general offer nothing of value to you as a user, you now have the ability to ignore them without affecting anyone else's UX (user experience). I too only have 2 accounts blocked at the moment but it wouldn't be fair to say who they are :)
