It's not appropriate to speak ill of the dead so as a Mark of respect please join me in raising a few toasts to RW before we all drive home.

No one should suffer through cancer like that and my condolences to the family.
The coverage I see today does remind me of this however...

Our obligatory week 1 media crisis should be entertaining to watch when supporter groups chant about this.

Supporter groups would have to be absolute fuckwits to chant about this. I didn't like her as much as the next person but if we want to get ourselves in the news for the wrong reasons this would be it.
She's passed, it has nothing to do with the football this weekend, move on.
Condolences to her family.

Even if someone does make a scene this weekend, I'd actually prefer the FFA ignore it rather than issue media statement after statement.

Nope.
This is a final warning for everyone. Many of us on this forum disagree with her opinions and what she did in her professional career in general but no more personal attacks. - mcjules

The football community needs to be very wary about attacking a woman who has just died of breast cancer.
That is the holy grail of cancers for the leftist media and they will have a field day the moment someone says something on Twitter.

Just keep the thoughts internal. We already know ourselves what we think of her and what she stood for. The season isn't even a day old and we don't need "sokkah shame" on the front page

+xHave a feeling things might get very very ugly on the twittersphere today. so many people are eulogizing her already as a brave woman who "battled cancer and the haters/trolls" I think she was a horrible journalist who caused a lot of her own problems by being a spiteful hateful cow and slandering Soccer fans across the country as all being flare-throwing hooligans with her Opinion pieces that were more gossip than truth. Will not miss her one iota. Feel kind of like I did when Osama bin Laden was killed. A touch of happy but restrained by the thought that someone is dead and its crass to be happy (even a little bit) about that. Ding Dong, the witch is dead!!

@vanbast and that's ok to feel like that alot of people feel like that including me. But lets keep those thoughts within our community. We don't need to go proving her right in the eyes of non football peolple.

Someone summed up my thoughts on it all elsewhere: She was a horrendous, awful person and should be remembered as such
Cancer is an indiscriminate, uncaring foe and no one deserves it

+x+x+xThe active ends will be fun to watch this weekend. Wouldn't be surprized if we hear "ding dong the witch is dead" Hope not. It won't go down well with the general public or even a lot of families who support football. They would make us public enemy #1 if we rejoiced in the death of a female cancer sufferer with a family, regardless of how much she has opposed football. The active ends don't exist for the families. Sorry to say. They don't exist for journos either

+xFFA have decided to get on the front foot - source Dear o dear. Look at the first reply. FFA shouldn't have said anything. Very ironic she's gone on opening day of the A League. To me, with Kyle Sandilands, one of the worst people Australia has had to call their own. I can never celebrate death though and certainly feel for her sons. Cancer is a fucking terrible thing.

+xYeah poor taste chants this weekend will just solidfy what she said all along. -PB Agreed Paul. While we don't have to agree with what she said we must respect her passing and the loved ones left behind. Chanting about her in a negative way now will look in very bad taste.

Never want to someone to die. But will never have a good word to say about her. I hope the terraces do nothing. She needs to just be forgotten about. She is a blip... and that blip is gone.

Meh. Don't understand just because she passed away we are supposed to be respectful. Stuff that. Was she respectful to any of us over years and years. How many lives did she try to ruin. Knowing the FFA, they will decide to have a minute silence at the derby......which will be just a great decision

I didn't know Rebecca Wilson, and I vehemently disagreed with some of the things she wrote, but I would never wish for someone to die of cancer, it's a horrible thing for their family to have to go though. For that matter, I would never wish for anyone to die.Sometimes people are decent hardworking people with families, yet they do or say things that let them down. They may not be any good at their job, they may have had indiscretions with the law, or they may have a vested interest in a particular sporting code and may feel threatened by the rise of another sporting code and actively seek to denigrate that code and try to stop it's growth. They may then pass away. When they do, it doesn't serve any purpose for the people they've offended and denigrated to 'vent'. In this case, I think football supporters should just get on with the game and not get involved with any public rehashing of an old story. There's an old saying that 'the best revenge is living well'. Let's enjoy the upcoming football season and all the joy it will bring to us and our families.
