Starting position? Spira doesn't deserve to be in any squads at all if he's playing 2nd Div China. It'd be an insult to the shirt.

Considering our NPL teams are beating CSL teams I'd hate to even try to compare standards of their 2nd Div...

Pretty sure players like Wilkinson and Devere are in front for a Socceroos spot over Spiranovic now.

Surely it will Sainsbury, Wright, Wilkinson and Devere as the 4 CBs.

Jurman would be ahead in the pecking order. Heck Aaron Calver should be ahead in the pecking order if Spira is playing 2nd Division over there.

@langan
Australia dont have the players good enough for the elite clubs yet. There's no denying it. Well how do u know there is a bias against Australian football. Don't you think someone would have been scouted and given the opportunity if they were good enough? We may be the Asian champs but that was 2 years ago and our last match was a draw against Thailand. But than again i'm sure thst was a one of and we cant base how good we are based on one peformance.
U sure we do well consistently against top 20 nations? When was the last time we even faced one of them?? Obviously there was a dip in talent since if Aus players like kewell, cahill etc could make it the pl it shows that there was no bias at that time, butmtp have no aus payers playing in the epl really shows. In fact we only have one players who actually starts and Leckie plays for a relegation battling side. Last time we played a top 20 team it was against England and it was a 2-1 loss. But that goal was an own goal from dier. If our players are good enough than they would be playing at the highest level and thats a fact. If your good enough and have the right attitude your gonna play at the highest level.
Sainsbury unfortunetly isnt good enough. What makes his good enough? What his our best cb competing against cb that dont play football in the top 5 leagues. If he starts for Inter he is good enough (assuming there are no injuries to other players whp are starters) , if he doesnt than it just proves what i said

bias is pretty standard in every career and sport

if you have two similar quality cricket players one being from india and the other being from russia the indian is probably getting selected

similarly if an a league club bought a player from the phillipines there would be howls of protest even if he was just as good

if the player has a bad game the fans put pressure on the coach to bench them. If the guy who comes from a "better" country has a bad game the coach is likely to say "give him a chance"

thats not to say I think Sainsbury should be a starter (I don't know anyone who predicted he will be) but just pointing out that bias is a factor

Mooy could become the $30 million man as Premier League suitors circle

With parent club Manchester City last month rejecting an $11 million approach from a Championship side for the Huddersfield loanee, the midfielder's dynamic form and Guardiola's endorsement has provoked a new wave of interest.

The World Game can reveal that a flurry of enquiries followed almost immediately when Guardiola said of Mooy - in the build up to the Terrier's goalies FA Cup draw with City this weekend - "He's playing amazing this season, so we are glad of that."

Guardiola impressed by Mooy's 'amazing' form

Pep Guardiola has labelled Aaron Mooy's form 'amazing' as the Australia international prepares to watch parent club Manchester City take on his loan side Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup.

The Spaniard, who is strongly considering including Mooy in City's first team squad next season, added: "it's not easy coming from Australia to the Championship and playing as good as he is."

Sources in England suggest that the director of football at one Premier League team placed Mooy in the $30 million bracket as he weighed making an offer.

Other top flight clubs have also taken heed, along with the Championship's more cashed up clubs, and it looks highly likely Mooy will be a Premier League player next season. It's just a question of by what route.

Mooy was forced to sit out City's fifth round clash with Huddersfield at the John Smith's Stadium, ruled ineligible under the terms of his season-long loan. The same will apply for the replay.

Should City decide to cash in on a player they picked up for a token fee from satellite side Melbourne City, the transaction would dwarf the previous highest transfer fee paid for an Australian - the $10.05 million Newcastle shelled out to Celtic for Mark Viduka in 2001.

Mooy's agent reveals: 'They thought I was dumping treasure in the swamp'

Aaron Mooy's agent, Paddy Dominguez, reveals the initial reaction he got from many people when he orchestrated the star midfielder's deal with Huddersfield Town was that he had done him a massive disservice.

The only uncertainty, assuming the Socceroos star maintains the form which has helped Huddersfield move to within touching distance of an automatic promotion spot, is whether Mooy stays and plays for City, is sold on to an existing EPL side or goes up with a Huddersfield, and is signed by them.

Mooy's Australian-based agent Paddy Dominguez declined to comment when approached over the latest speculation over Mooy's future.

http://theworldgame.sbs.com.au/article/2017/02/19/mooy-could-become-30-million-man-premier-league-suitors-circle

Crickey 30 millions is a lot of bananas.

Fair point, but its not always like that. Generally people dont care where u come from so long as u can play football. How excatly do u know that thats what he coaches mentality is. Thoose factors may not effect Sainsbury.

I think if he returns to man city and plays some games (reasonably well) for a season, he could very well  draw 15 million pounds or so.

Then again someone like robbie brady went from norwich to burnley recently for around 13 million pounds. Actually there were quite a few big transfers from the championship around this amount in the last season or two. Maybe it isn't outside the realm of possibility.

Given he's now very well established in the English league system I can certainly believe that he could have such an inflated price, consider the 6 million quid deal for Brad Smith, for example.

John Stones went from Everton to Man City for like $80m AUD this season. Crazy.

The only other CB on the bench, Andreolli, has only played one minute of Serie A so far this season. They have three LBs on the bench, though.

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOAL.. great.

was goign to comment, Bologna can smell blood in the water here. Hope this has nothing to do with Sains being on the bench.

Inter reak if weakness/vulnerability atm . Even the ref made a really strange offside call then. WEIRD

Pity their next game is a big match against 2nd placed Roma, but maybe he'll get a chance. Probably they'll start Murillo in for Miranda at CB alongside Medel and use one of their many wingbacks as cover, they seem to have plenty of depth in those positions.

Maybe he'll get a look in away to second last placed Crotone the week after? Certainly a low risk option for Inter, even though every point will count in their quest for European slots.
