+xJAs has got us playing a 4-2-3-1 formation not 433. Can only think of a handful of games where we've played 433. The issue is Maccers is poor in 4231 - how many goals has be scored against the top two sides (1?) versus the rest?? Broich doesn't suit that formation either. Let's just hope the bakries give him a winter with normal recruiting none of this last minute signings where players aren't fit until after Christmas ffs More like I like I hope the bakeries pay the players over the break. It would be nice to not have off field dramas this time around.

The finger of suspicion falls on JAs coaching ability again but his defence is a strong one; the winter crisis haven't let me build the squad I want with too many last minute, left in the shelf and invariably unfit pre-season signings.
So hopefully the bakries give him a winter free of disruption and he can sign the players he wants when he wants.
Hopefully Avraam and Caletti sign on.
Broich and Maclaren going will leave huge gaps but that does give Roar room under the cap for two quality signings. And we need them.

Oar and Holman should step up a gear or two. Broich on half a leg was still good, but hopefully we can get a visa player that plays the full 90 minutes. Arana should be gone. Keeper and backline should be retained. Caletti will get more game time if he signs. I wouldn't mind DÁgostino as our striker, he seems to have more strings to his bow than Maclaren.

Oar and Holman picking up a lot of flak this morning but like you I think they'll both have a good season next year. D'aggers up front suits me and just sign a top quality right wing to replace Borrello, a caestro type creator and goal scorer

Maclaren is going to be a huge loss, going to be tough trying to find someone under the cap who will score us 20 goals. Can only see us going backwards next season.

@ Roar_Brisbane
I disagree on Maclaren, he's been a big part of the problem this season. Exhibit A was yesterday's 90 minutes
Roar don't need a 20 goal-a-season striker cos the best it gets you is third and a semi-final elimination. Bes got 13 and 14 in his last two seasons plus he was involved in plenty of other team goals, Maccers doesn't get involved.
If we sign a new right wing, a new No. 9 (or go with daggers) then there's no reason why we shouldn't have a front four capable of scoring 40+ goals, at the moment they'll be lucky to get 30 as everything had to be fed to Maccers
It's been a kack of team balance that's the problem, Maccers going (and Broich) will actually help that.

Gotta feeling D'Agostino will be a better player, a natural finisher and a better player in the build up too. I just depends if Aloisi buys another striker or not.

Agree. The new cap has a potential rise of $700k in it - that provides some real scope for signings. Roar will probably have $1.2m for about 4-5 new players. A real test of Roars recruiting

I'm not sure what Maclaren has done to you but your constant moaning about him in every thread is embarrassing. Maclaren has scored 20 goals for us in back to back seasons, he's done his job, we needed other contributors and to stop the leaky defense. How many goals did Borello/Holman/Oar/Arana/ score this season? Fuck all. More criticism should be directed at JA's horrendous decision to backdate Oar/Holman to marquees. The Holman signing had potential but seeing as you can now have two international marquees carrying an old Aussie who will miss half the season is a shocking decision. Oar is an even bigger fuck up, as much as I like the guy we didn't need another winger who can't score goals. So your solution to us winning a championship is removing the one successful thing we have going ~ a striker who can score goals. Replace him with a 20 year old kid or hope JA can sign two visa attackers under the salary cap who will not only cover Maclaren's missing goals but be able to create this fluid system (assuming JA goes away from his hoofball rubbish) in which they will suddenly make someone like Oar more than a 1 goal a season player. It's almost pure fantasy tbh, Also your point about Berisha is the biggest load of cherry-picking bullshit that I've seen on this site and that's saying something. Let me remind you the 13 goal season in 13/14 where Berisha would've scored 20 goals if he didn't spend a third of the season being either injured or suspended, thankfully we had the best defense in the league. The 14 goal 12/13 where we spent almost the entire season in the bottom four struggling to score goals and the Mulvey hype train got us into fifth. Gee I wonder why you left out the year before.

I'm surprised you guys have so much faith in Daggers. I think he has potential but would need at least another season before he is good enough to help us win a title, though I'd love to be wrong.
I'd like to be able to get a genuine number 10, and shift Holman to the left and also a backup LB. Rowles doesn't look anywhere near ready for A-league level.
Wouldn't be surprised to see someone come in for Borrello considering his form in the second half of the season.

Working out what to do with Roar to improve is as hard as working out what to do with WSW. There's many issues from attack to defence. In defence on paper we should be doing a lot better. But consistently we have had blow out scores.Which has only happened under Aloisi. We used to plau out from the back under Ange and we got schooled in the ACL and Ange said goodbye, probably realizing the players at the time werent good enough to take the next step up. From Mulvey to Aloisi Roar have conceded to pragmatism whenever the going gets tough playing from the back.Neither coach had/has the wherewithal to get players to play through the press.Let's face it since Ange left Roar are not a better team. Not in defence , not in attack ,not in pressing and not in playing out from the back. Oar and Holman are not part of the solution.Oar is not creative ,doesnt score and his major weapon, his crossing is wasted in a small striker. Holman is all over the place, which is good for unpredictability, but not for defence or attack structure. His strength is the teams weakness. Borrello,is Mr play good ,then coast for a while. Kristensen is a good DM,but lacks the speed.Mckay is not a good defender and past his best in attack. Macca was valuable doing what he did,but a lack of a serious second striker prevented us from getting to second.Maybe Henrique would have delivered. Next year what do you do with that lot to get to number one?I have no idea. They just wont do the job, even with another 20goal striker (A pipe dream). At least some other teams have a chance for a cleanout. But even if Roar bring in new players, are our marquees going to sit on the bench? Is McKay sitting on the bench? Then there is that ACL poison chalice again.

@ crimsoncrusoe
Everything you've listed there surely raises questions on coaching? Roar as a team seem unsure of what exactly they are trying to do in terms of a game plan, the move to 4231 is now complete but it's hard to see what and why that formation is being implemented?
Assuming JA is to re-sign for 2 more years the question marks are all around him and what he can do differently over the winter to create a ruthless winning streak within this team, something that has been lacking for three seasons. I think it's more than just new signings although 2-3 good ones will be welcome

Waz ,Arnold uses the 4231 perfectly.I don't see it as a possesion based system. Maybe what Aloisi needs to evolve to is 343 .We will have three CB's and Hingert and Brown as wing backs(but no backup).Alos the lack of creativity up front is a problem as is McKay with Kristensen. With that system you need three star players up front, who all score regularly.

+xKatebian moving on. Didn't see enough of him this season A gun at youth level, but appears to not have been given an extended run to stake a claim (behind Berisha at Victory, Maclaren at the Roar). A club like the Mariners, Adelaide or the Phoenix could do worse than take a punt on him.

Agreed walnuts.
He got injured mid season and found D'aggers had got the second striker position. Worth a punt for someone - too good to drop down to NPL

This is why we need a Div 2.There's a lot of young talent that need to play to improve.Nobody can perform at their best ,without a run of games.

Well tonight summed up our season and current situation quite nicely I recon.
We're capable of playing some good football but we just can't put it in the back of the net often enough.
At the back we've got some good defenders but they have a habit of defending set-pieces in the same way clowns are trained to run around a circus ring.
Youngs own goal was disgraceful for a professional but Theo has had his moments this season too. Neither of them compare to Vokovic.
At the end of last season I felt the best signing Roar could make was a defensive coach, I still think we need one.

I've always said he should go. I don't know why aloisi didn't play rowles or another young FB in that game. Oar is just rubbish at LB. It was basically an exhibition game. Does anyone know if there is another roar player leaving, it was mentioned last night there was a rumor there was.

@ Mr. B
The rumour started with Kaiserslautern saying a third Aussie is in bound, Fox did their homework presumably and assumed it was another Roar player. The stories this morning seem to point to Maccers going there but no confirmation of anything yet.
