source: Fox broadcast Still no credible figure for the Wellington game? That's pretty disappointing. First time in 13 years a crowd hasn't been disclosed. Fuck the club off for that alone

Apparently there was double at the BBL at Etihad tonight.
Although the atmosphere at AAMI was pretty damn good with solid core supporters

There’s a big “so what” that there was double at the BBL tonight - Australia is a cricket mad nation, it is not football mad!
If Victory has another 5k on tonight’s crowd the BBL would still have got 30k.
Once we sort our shit out, and we will, the BBL will still draw much bigger crowds. Long after expansion is realised, a second division arrives and pro/rel is finally here the BBL will still out perform football. And it won’t matter.

Atmosphere was excellent imo, shows why we should play at AAMI at all times. Even with a small crowd it's still pretty enjoyable.

Totally agree 443. Victory fans are fed up with Etihad and AAMI should be our full time home.
And Waz while I don’t disagree with you. If the FFA is hellbend in families being its target market, then it has to be better value for $ compared to BBL for casual families in the school holiday period.

The state leagues will never gain traction just as the state leagues of the other codes don't either, but as a competitive on field product it hands down produces more excitement and tension then the A league, Not just following my team but keeping an eye on all the tiers across Victoria, attending top of the table clashes as well as relegation battles. If you want football as close to its purest form as possible get down to your local npl and lower tiers comps.
We aren't even in the new year yet and we already know Sydney, jets, victory and city will contest this years A league semis, let's just fast forward to April already.

I do follow the NSWNPL, which actually has SFCNYL side in it. I enjoy it, but if your metric is crowds and TV ratings, then it is getting Big Bashed.

Words like metrics dont exist at the lower level, as i said its just pure football mostly played in the depths of winter, its non gimmicky and its raw the way it should be. In terms of being big bashed if you're looking for summer entertainment with a sports twist the bbl know how to do it. Where we screw up as a sport is we try to outplastic them...thats a battle we cant win.

I think the problem is more that you don't see the a-league as the pinnacle of the sport because it is a closed league that is almost completely disconnected from the levels below it, though I did enjoy watching Sydney destroy South Melbourne in the FFA Cup. I've have watched NPL, Big Bash and A-League and the A-league is by far the best spectacle, though the lack of competition at the top for SFC is disappointing.

I do see the A league as the pinnacle of our sport, its the highest tier of our code in this country, my issue with it is that its run and hyped to entice everyone BUT football fans and in the end you alienate everyone. The problem isnt that sydney fc destroyed south, wanderers, wellington or whoever else they end up thumping, its the rinse and repeat nature of it. Nothing changes from one year to the next. It doesnt know whether it wants to be genuine or bbl lite. I have said this hundreds of time, our code has the opportunity to provide a competitive component that no other sport in this country can match, instead we tie ourselves up with a watered down product. The other sports here have actually reached max potential..they cant get better! We on the other hand can but we choose not. Instead of making excuses that we are unique in an aussie sporting context, we should be hyping the fact that we are unique as part of a code that is a global powerhouse and apply that. We can do things here that aussie rules, rugby league and cricket could only dream of..but again we choose not to.

Well the average so far is 11500. Not looking good at all.
I predicted this was going to happen and the chickens are coming home to roost.
Radical moves are necessary otherwise will will decline further.

We're on track for either the second or 3rd worst attended season of all time.

Barring an unusual surge in attendances that probably only an unlikely celebrity marquee signing in January could give, someone ran a model based on previous seasons declines from R1 to R27 that forecast a season average crowd of 10,500-11,000 by the end of this season.
I personally don’t see anything happening to change that, SFC look like they are going to run away with the title so there don’t be a multi-club boost from a title chase.
The FFA won’t care as they’ve been here before and will believe it’s not their fault and they just need to come up with a new marketing gimmick for next season.
The clubs don’t really care as it supports their claim the ffa is not the best organisation to run “their” league
So nothing will change and no one will do anything until FIFA have done their thing in February.

Wasnt that long ago you had parra stadium rocking with 16,000 whilst that bbl franchise played at an empty spotless. Now they double the wanderers crowds even going head to head lol.

I don’t think bbl has ever played to an empty stadium.
Plus bbl crowds are down this season by all accounts so any CA gloating will be muted
